Does having Mattison give us a leg up on Meyer

Submitted by rpel84 on January 25th, 2012 at 9:30 PM

Seeing how Mattison was on Urban" Liar's" staff at Florida, and Mattison is freaking awesome.  Does this give us a leg up on Meyer in game planning?  Does Mattison have an inside look at how Urban will game plan?  I think he will give us a leg up on Meyer and what Meyer will try to do with his offense.  Any good team asks the DC how they would try to stop their own offense and I am sure Mattison has an in depth look at how Meyer will run his O and how to try to stop it.

I guess I'll throw this out there -

1. Talent (you gotta be able to play)

2. Coaching (you have to know how to use your talent)

3. Precedence (your tendencies as a player or coach)

4. Luck (sometimes you just get lucky)

Urban and Greg.  They worked together, sure.  I know that not all things are equal, but I will just throw this out there anyways.  It didn't help Rocky Long much; less than one year removed from Coach Hoke did it?  I would rate precedence (tendencies) a lot lower than talent and coaching.  I included luck because it should be mentioned.  I wouldn't put too much stock in the Mattison/Meyer connection.  It might change a few plays for us and it might change a few plays for them, but I don't think it brings a decided schematic advantage for either of us.

that there are minimal advantages  to the connection between Mattison and Urb, and how it relates to them coaching head to head, but using the results of the SDSU (Rocky Long) VS UM (Hoke, Borges) game is an inaccurate comparison. An offense featuring Ryan Lindley is the polar opposite of an offense featuring Shoelace. Al's O conformed to the talents he had going to more of a spread look, and I imagine with what is currently on the talent shelves at ohio urb will do the same making the Mattison-Urb connection worthless.

EDIT: Before I get negged for not mentioning that Braxton Miller is the prototypical QB for an Urb offense so the comparison IS valid, I'll just clarify that I was referring to the belief that Urb will use more of a power game to fit what talent is there. (Brionte??) Talent meaning those shit human beings who suit up in those gawd awful colors. Not talent in a nice way.

Since Coach Mat has seen a lot of Urban Offense and urban has seen a lot of Coach Mats defense , they'll both have a good idea as to what the other would do. I don't see any advantage tho since it's the last game of the year. We'll have plenty of tape and visa versa

Are all the neg votes on the OP on account of the "Liar" remark? If so, I completely agree-- using nicknames like this brings us down to their level.

Regardless, to answer your original question: I have no idea. I would think so, and in fact even emailed Brian the same question shortly after the hire for his thoughts on the subject. Because I never heard anything back, I assumed his answer was no.

Number 1...

Stupid, juvenile nicknames
Most relevant to Michigan fans is the infamous "scUM," but this idiocy affects many fan bases. Any "State" school is liable to find a dollar sign replacing the S in their abbreviation. In a rush to damn the NCAA people will completely disregard the fact that "NCAA" doesn't have any S's in it and go ahead and make the same swap anyway. Penn State gets called "State Penn" whenever a player gets drunk and frisky. Morons spell out "University of Spoiled Children" over and over again to display their disdain for USC.

EXAMPLE
"scUM and the University of Spoiled Children are playing in the Ro$e Bowl because the NC$$ needs the money."

DIAGNOSIS
This person is a moron who is under the erroneous impression that he is being funny, like that one uncle who tells the same joke every Thanksgiving for 30 years. This affliction is always, always a sign that you can safely ignore anything the person says, as they are either twelve or have Down's Syndrome.

CURE
Insert bullet travelling at extremely high velocity into skull.

But did you really have to put it in quotes, I think we understood the joke.

You might as well have gone for the gold and said, "Even though Big Blue loses Troy Woolfork, I think Mattison gives us an advantage over Urban 'Liar' and O$U."

I bet on a Buckeye board somewhere there's a topic asking if them having Urban on staff gives them a leg up on us since Mattison was on his staff at Florida.
