Do the losses sting anymore?

Submitted by MGomaha on

I still love this university, program, and team, but I don't feel mad or upset that we lost anymore. Whether or not Michigan won or lost used to dictate my mood for the weekend and into the next week. Now, I'm just ready for the Lions game. It's not that I don't care about losing, but I just feel... used to it.

You guys feeling the same?

They do. Just not in a way that matters anymore. I'll admit, I was excited to see the apparent game-winning drive. Felt like a Carr team for a brief moment. But then reality set in.

This is where I am getting to unfortunately. But on another level, if we go 2-10, then yeah it will really hurt in a collective sense. I would really feel bad for the kids on a team to set that modern day record.

Not even a blip. Slight satisfaction/relief if anything, since it makes Hoke and Brandon's departures more likely. Apparently the players feel the same way, given Funchess' comments.

Stopped caring after Utah game. I still watch because I still enjoy watching them play but it's the same as watching any other team play now as oppose to something I put my emotions in.

Not for me, not for the coaches, and not for diamond dave. I used to feel sick when we lost and stew about it for days. Not anymore! Thanks for curing me of that hokester

Very much.  The refs needed to let the players decide that game.  If we don't win fine, but don't screw us over.  That bothers me.  I know the players are trying the best they can.

This was excrutiating, but I have become a little numb after the game.

I think we do have some pieces, but most of us fans are way overestimating the talent we have.  We don't have but a few consistent playmakers on the whole team, A guy will flash for a play or two here or there, but then disappear the rest of the game, Lots of players can make a great play or two, it's the truly talented players who can make plaays all game long.

When Michigan lost, it used to ruin my weekend. Now? Not at all. Apathy has truly set in. I had no doubt last night that Michigan would lose. They did play better than I expected, but the outcome was still the same. This team and coaching staff might go down as one of the most underachieving Michigan teams ever. I might care a little more, but when I see Michigan players laughing and smiling after a loss, why should I? I see Hoke just clap, and clap and clap. He seems content to just be the head coach of Michigan. I see Devin Funchess basically say he doesnt care if Michigan wins. Maybe that was taken out of context, but if you watch the way he and some other guys go through the motions, that comment makes sense.

Hoke is more worried about being a life coach rather than a football coach. I get it. I coach high school football. Some guys need a father figure, but this is Michigan we are talking about. You are not being paid $4 million a year to be a dad. Sure, you want all your players to behave, be respectful and graduate. I get that. But you need to produce on the field as well. This team is one of the softest teams I have ever seen. Not just for Michigan, but in all of football. This is a direct result of the head coach. He cultivated this atmosphere by coddling everyone and not being a disciplinarian. I have OSU buddies constantly texting me saying they feel bad. It's gotten so bad that rival fans are being apathetic, as well. It's emabarrassing.

I will not attend any more games until the product on the field changes. Hoke needs fired next week after the PSU game no matter what the outcome is. DB needs to go asap as well. Im tired of these mediocre teams. But I will not let Michigan football ruin another weekend for me.

I have rage after really awful loses like this. If we play well against Ohio like last year, not so much. But this shit is getting old real fast. Play and coach like you have a pair you pussies!

I don't even care about this season. We just need to get to 6 wins for the extra 15 practice days which seems doubtful at this point and we need to hire one of Miles, or the 2 Harbaughs. Dan Mullen would be nice too.Bacon thinks we get one of the first three for what it's worth.

I'll add that I was extremely livid after the blown call on Darboh's grab, and once Rutgers got their final first down, but once the inital rage of losing wore off I was over it.

Sucks.

Saturdays are ruined, thats for sure. I was still stinging about the Minny game well into last week. But I still walk around in my Michigan Football gear and my Michigan block M hat and people look at me like I'm wearing a dildo helmet on my head.

Most non-Michigan fans probably don't even pay attention to what you wear.  They are too busy being concerned with their own teams.

Kudos to you for having pride in the University and continuing to wear your Michigan gear.  U-M is still a world-class university and you're pride is well justified.

which I never thought I'd say.  When I was younger, I was one of those kids who'd go to sleep crying and confused after a loss, completely unable to come to terms with the fact that Michign had lost.

Then this year hit and I went from stage one to stage seven at lightspeed.

I grew up in a college town of a football independent, so conference titles don't matter.  Being nationally relevant is the only thing that matters.  Nobody ever talks about "who won the Big Ten in 1973".  They only talk about who won (and who should have won) the national championship.  "Titles" that are anything less are bland icing.

When I was younger and when Michigan was relevant, I let it bother me (longer than it should have).  Now that we're not relevant, I get my fall Saturdays back and think about March.

Kids change your perspective too.  And mine keep me from getting as spun up as I used to get.

Nope.  They are actually a perverse form of progress now because they make it ever more clear that a change needs to be made.  There is no ambiguity anymore.

Foolish of me to get my hopes up; I'll try not to make that mistake again this season.

I hate that the first half of this season is over and we're irrelevant except as a program to point at and laugh at for opposing fans. This sucks beyond whatever eloquent prose Brian and staff will use and I am really trying to get on the ennui bandwagon so my heart doesn't explode with rage at this incompetent staff and AD who suck beyond all reasonable expectations.

Our AD and Coach care about this program in any way they would apologize to everyone involved in this program for the tactics they have used to bring us this wow experience and then make like a tree and get out of town quickly and efficiently.

and yet every week, here I am, pissed off again.

I can't believe what these two have done to this program. Every word out of their mouths is about what makes this program special, and they have destroyed just about all of it.

I'm worried about all time wins and it's stunning what they've done to even bring that into the conversation.

Despite overcoming their coaches, they really played their hearts out and I still can't understand the incomplete pass in the last drive.  Am I missing a rule here?  I always thought that R stood for Referee but I began thinking it stood for Rutgers as I watched what unfolded. Shouldn't have been that close to begin with but as hard as the guys played, I think they deserve the coaching that will reflect the effort they put forth tonight and hasn't been seen for awhile.

that has hurt me the most for these last years.

It is agonizing to me that kids have been betrayed who made the decision to don these colors.

The men on the sideline are inadequate, unprepared, confused, and instill no confidence or direction in their players.

It's shameful.

According to Stassen.com

taking into account the 2-0 osu start this season and Michigan's 0-2

osu 483-172-24  677 games

UM 483-193-18  694 games

To me this is one of the worst aspects of all of this. Michigan can't even take advantage of a shit conference.

Michigan is 21-29 in conference since 2008

Of course I root for Michigan--that's hard-wired--but it's much more with my head and not my gut.

The ND, Utah, and Minny losses, those were brutal.  After each of those games I felt like I'd been a Prisoner of Azkaban, with any soul sucked out of me.

At least there were moments of enjoyment in this one, however shallow and cerebral they may have been.

This one hurt the most of any loss this year because of the replay official. Combine it with the tigers collapse friday, it has been a rough couple of days.

yes because I watch other teams do well and I wonder why our team isn't doing those things.

Cal just returned 2 ko's for td's in a row.    I watched Ohio's supposedly depleted offense dismantle Maryland.   We can't even beat Rutgers.
