Dispatch Article - Importance of Rivalry (Carr and Moeller)

Submitted by Hoke_Floats on

Lloyd Carr and Gary Moeller took some grief in Ohio for having the temerity to say Ohio State wasn't the rivalry on Michigan's schedule during the 1990s when the Wolverines were dominating the John Cooper-coached Buckeye teams.

"I can't speak (to) what they do now," Boren said. "I wasn't around enough with Coach (Rich) Rodriguez, to know what they do now. But like I said, they had a couple of other rivalries. It was a big game that week, but it's not something they practice for every practice or all year long like we do."

OK

Neg Away..I know Boren is a bit of a talker

I honestly don't care if Rich Rod goes the entire week leading up to the game without mentioning OSU, just as long as he beats them

Boren has zero idea what goes on in practice. He checked out the moment he saw how hard he would have to work. He probably wasn't even paying attention for the practices he was in attendence for.

Anything regarding an RR-led Michigan team out of Boren's mouth is like a bad breakup. It's just tactless.

What part of -  "I can't speak (to) what they do now," Boren said. "I wasn't around enough with Coach (Rich) Rodriguez, to know what they do now." - don't you understand?  Didn't Boren play before RR came to town?

said that because it really chapped OSU's ass - but that was the rivalry regardless of how they tried to portray it to the press. As far as now, it really would be nice to hear what goes on in preparation of the OSU game throughout the year. Is Rich making a huge deal of it behind closed doors?

I think you guys need to reread  the quote..  Mr. Plow is teh biggest jackass to ever put on the winged helmet, but he is saying the Carr never practiced for OSU before OSU week.  He is saying that he CAN't Speak to what they do under RR...

So in this quote alone, he is only 99% douche.

I think there is some truth to that.  Michigan has three big natural rivalries, while OSU really only has Michigan.  From that standpoint, it elevates the rivalry a little more for OSU than it does for Michigan.  While the Michigan coaching staff historically doesn't emphasize doing things throughout the season to prepare for OSU, Tressel has his team do that.  Is that right or wrong for UM?  I'm not sure, but RR and his staff certainly have to be aware that its a key focus in Columbus every week and OSU is going to get a little better prepared and a little hungrier for the game as the season progresses.

John Cooper's undoing was treating the rivalry like just another game, and a lot can be learned from that.  Words can't describe how much I'd love to see him back, because his prep for The Game was a joke.  If we were playing against him, there would be no doubt in my mind that we would go into the horseshoe as big underdogs and beat OSU.

Rich Rod had the team fired up to play last year and we'll see the same strong effort this year.  Remember how he had Ufer radio highlights playing during practice last year?  You could tell how much The Game meant to Rodriguez last year, and you can bet that he'll do absolutely everything to prepare and motivate the team.  Like every week, this team will leave it all out on the field.

Justin Boren comments should be shunned from this site like the free press.  Anyone who claims family values and leaves to go to the biggest rival is a complete moron.

Any player, playing for the University of Michigan who even has thoughts, or could possibly think about playing for ohio, should no longer be discussed as they are not worthy of our discussion.

This guy is going to get whats coming on saturday as Mike Martin eats him and his little brother on his way to TP...

Transferring is one thing, but to a rival school, in THIS rivalry? If there was a buckeye player to transfer here, I don't think I could accept him as a part of the team. That Tressel even accepted his transfer request surprised me.

But yeah, fuck Justin Boren, we shouldn't even be acknowledging his existence. Hairless fucking nut.
