Did Tarik Black play yesterday?
Did Tarik Black play yesterday? Per Great Divide live stream it is true, but he wasn't targeted. This sounds like it would have been something Gus and Joel would have mentioned but perhaps they didn't notice. Perhaps he was used as a decoy?
Apologies if this has been posted, I looked! If not, first!

People said they saw him in on two plays before the weather delay, then didn't play after that. Probably trying not to risk another injury in slippery conditions.

I think if you check the media report dropped by the Athletic department for the game it will list all participants. I didn't notice him... but I can't say for sure.

He is on the official player participation report published on mgoblue.com

If a wet field poses a risk to him, he shouldn’t be playing at all.
October 21st, 2018 at 7:45 PM ^
I don't get these takes. He had a broken foot. It's either healed or it isn't and he wouldn't be playing if it isn't healed. And a wet field makes no difference toward the chances someone's going to break their foot.

Ask Felton Davis if the wet field made any difference. Not knowing the bone that he broke, a slip while cutting could surely put extra stress on that fracture. Was a good move not playing him. Lets hope Gary gets healthy in this buy week.

To my untrained eye it looked like Davis may have tore his achilles. He went down immediately after pushing off to start running. Non-contact. It's a shame. I feel bad for anyone that gets injured, even a Sparty.
October 21st, 2018 at 8:03 PM ^
It was his achilles. Ends his college career and likely keeps him from getting drafted now. I actually felt bad for the kid going out that way.

I've been wondering, do a Gilles just give out like that? I dont recall him limping or anything before hand. He didnt seem to make any unusual move to cause it. It just happened. Scary.

I feel like every time I have seen a torn Achilles, it was a non contact injury. So yes they just go like that.
October 21st, 2018 at 10:33 PM ^
I ruptured mine in non contact softball warmups . It sucked but damn near 100 % after 4 years . Long road

That sucks for him, supposed to be a solid guy. Hope he can still get some NFL $.

A doctor shouldn’t/wouldn’t okay him to play but only in dry weather. He’s either physically ready to play or he isn’t.
October 21st, 2018 at 8:23 PM ^
It's called a safety precaution. Coaches didn't want to risk it. He wouldn't have taken up one of allotted travel spots if they didn’t plan on playing him.
October 21st, 2018 at 8:33 PM ^
Completely different injuries. And the point stands. If Black was healthy, then he was no more likely to get injured than anyone else and would thus be cleared to play like anyone else. They aren't going to hold him out in certain conditions because of what happened in the past.

I think it’s more about confidence in your body. After breaking both of his feet, he’s gotta be nervous as hell that he’s going to get hurt again. That can mess with your running mechanics while playing and actually put you at a higher risk. Inclement weather isn’t going to help that trust in your body at all
October 21st, 2018 at 10:34 PM ^
He might have been out there just to get used to being back in gear, in cleats and going into the warm ups and huddle. There are a lot of routine things that occur. For some sports, getting back into the routine and motions take time and while he may have been cleared for contact, he probably wasn't game ready.

Unless your Tarik Black! I don't remember either one of his injuries caused by a hard play, he got hurt in somewhat surprising fashion. He never got the ball thrown to him, I think he was out there as a decoy and told to run straight at half speed...

He's on the participation list, page 4.
October 21st, 2018 at 7:48 PM ^
Where do you find that? I have gone through numerous MgoBlue.com titles but can't seem to locate those for each game.

Schedule and then 'PDF Box Score.'

I saw him in the game for a play. Not sure if he played more than that, but we didn't target him.
October 21st, 2018 at 7:50 PM ^
He was definitely out there when they went 3 wide once in the first half, but that was the only time I saw him. He was the WR lined up nearest to the sideline.
October 21st, 2018 at 7:57 PM ^
He played in the second half. He was out there twice for 3 wide sets. Once in the first half and once in the second half.
October 21st, 2018 at 7:59 PM ^
Yes, he played. He was in for 2 or 3 plays. Most noticeably, the 2nd down play where UM used a timeout in the 1st half, right before the delay.

Injury wise....Black and JBB will be back most likely and ready to go. Gary is unclear but he has 2 weeks to heal now. Otherwise, we are in good shape as long as we have a healthy bye week in practice.
October 21st, 2018 at 8:56 PM ^
I'm ok if they need to sit until OSU. We probably dont need them until then. Would rather hVe them as close to healed for OSU, big 10 championship and playoffs as possible.

From the sound of it he played several snaps. Pretty bad miss by the broadcast crew.
October 21st, 2018 at 9:07 PM ^
Yes he did
Came in for one or two plays that’s it. May have thought conditions weren’t right with rain
Isiah hole has a picture that won’t post for me here
October 21st, 2018 at 10:12 PM ^
He was out there before the rain delay. Saw him walking out of the stadium and he looked fine as well no favoring one foot over the other
October 21st, 2018 at 10:58 PM ^
I remember seeing him on the field for the first play after the rain delay, but that was it. Seemed to be used as a decoy.
