I think our boy Devin has Tate-like moxie. I like.

He clearly does not want to redshirt. First time I saw him say that.

Who does?

I don't but I probably should

He sat with his family -Sec 23 row A right at the 50 yd line. I was taking photos as the team ran on to the field. This guy is tall and solid in physique. He also looked intense- taking in all the ambience of the 1st game of the season. People who were around him recognized him saying "next year". He seemed to like that.
FYI I saw Ricardo Miller as well and told him I looked forward to seeing him on the field next year. He had a big smile and said, "thanks'.

I love the "next year Devin will red shirt" and "Devin should red shirt" talk. In today's game players like Devin(5 star qbs, ranked 1st at their postion) don't red shirt. Just to much stud...to red shirt.

True but you have to look at the options. If Tate Forcier continues to do what he does, why would you not redshirt Gardner? An extra year of learning the system and having his body mature would be more valuable than putting him right in just because "you cant redshirt him".
Michigan is lucky to be in this position but I think DG will redshirt and I think he will probably realize that it's going to be in his long term best interest.

I want Tate and Denard on the field at the same time. Move Denard somewhere (or everywhere) and move Devin to the #2 spot. Hopefully Tate stays healthy and Devin doesn't get to see the field. But I don't see RR redshirting him if he's that good. I think RR wants his best players to contribute, I think he want's his #2 QB to have game experience, and he seems to like to mix it up with the QB's.

Is a total freak. Impresses me every time I see something about him. Ridiculous, I can't wait to see him in maize and blue.

I was very impressed by how he handled the question about Tate.
Very excited about DG. I think if he comes in early he has a real shot to pass up Tate. If not, he has more of an uphill battle. The raw talent is very, very impressive though. He also strikes me as a fantastic leader who's dedicated to his team.

Heres a clip of his first 2 games. He looks so much like Vince Young its scary.

Before we compare him to possibly the best college football player of the past decade, let's keep in mind that those are high school highlights.

I honestly don't think there's a pressing need to redshirt him..
We could use Tate, D.Rob, and Devin all in the same play sometimes. Imagine Tate as a QB, Devin as a slot, and D.Rob as a WR in some sets.. it would give a defense nightmares because both Devin and D.Rob could throw the ball in reverse plays..

as I've been saying all summer:
the backfield is (left to right) D-Rob, Tate, Carlos Brown (who played some QB in HS). Now, all can run, all can throw (though Brown is a little limited). Triple-option from hell.

I am a firm believer that competition produces progression. Let him come in and compete and once he has been here for some practices evaluate him then. It is not a given that he is better than Tate just as it is not a given Tate is better than him but they will push each other to the next level. The thing I don't want to see is Tate become complacent and comfortable in the fact that he will not lose his position as the starter no matter what. It is good to be pressed to do better and I think even if Gardner cannot contribute on the field next year he will by pushing the guys around him.
