Desmond pick M to win NC

Submitted by wolverine1987 on

College Gameday had their season preview this morning at 11, and in the predictions section Desmond Howard picked M to beat Wisconsin in the B1G Championship game, then beating Alabama in the NC game. While "from Desmond's lips to God's ears" comes to mind, and I love the prediction, I'm not ready to go there myself.

In less notable news, Herbie picked Bama over Clemson in the title game, but also as stated yesterday is "very high" on M this year.

How about you, are you with Desmond?

No man, you set the bar too low.  At least set it at winning the Big Ten.

Barring certain key injuries, this will be the best team since Harbaugh arrived, better than the 2016 team that was one good spot in Columbus (he was short) from the BTCCG against a not very strong West opponent, and making the playoff.

No, but it's a short history and a two loss team made the BCS title game. Also Michigan has the schedule to be a potential two loss team with four+ big time wins.

Or the east winner could just as likely have one loss. I agree it's tough sledding for all so zero losses for anyone would surprise the hell out of me.

If..If Michigan makes the playoffs which is a big if, (it means not being in a close score game with the Buckeyes whee the refs can steal the game and hand it to the Buckeyes), they won't lose to Bama or Clemson, especially Clemson with that soft (as usual) schedule. They won't get that far and lose to either one of those teams, not happening. But, have to get there first.

Of course you can't. How do you know their line is the best in college football? Because ESPN says so? I doubt we'll know until late into the season, their schedule is so ridiculously soft that it will be hard to know what their capabilities are and Saban or Dabo outgaming Harbaugh when Harbaugh has a QB and a passable O Line? Not going to happen. Focus on the RB's and Defense and decent (dare I hope great) QB play, Harbaugh gets that and it's back to the SF/Stanford days of bludgeoning opponents into submission.

Yes you're right--we can't believe anything we read anywhere. Despite scouts saying they have at least 3 guys on the d-line worthy of 1st or 2nd round picks. Question-will our d-line be great? Because that's what ESPN and other sources say. I'll ignore it though and wait to hear what you have to say

DFAB1107-7B17-4A2B-AA3D-D4C9A98A4FD1.gifThats was a good try. Pray that you play our third string qb this year, or that the refs wash off the cum stains on their unis from blowing urban before the game so no one sees them

Had to get a ref to steal it for you at home, lol, absurd mickey mouse sh*t, guy is a foot short of the first down. But no matter, good enough for me no matter the record book says. This year that won't happen again because you're going to get pounded early and the score will be out of reach for even buckeye fan refs to throw.

J.T. wasn't a foot short of the first down marker, I won't say he made the first down, it was close.  If the ref wouldn't of gave Ohio St. the first down, then the replay wouldn't of gave them the first down.  There were questionable calls that went against you guys, but your q.b. also had a couple costly turnovers too.  For being 2 - 15 in the last 17 games your pretty confident OSU is going to get pounded early.  This is such a delusional fanbase it's disgusting.  Ichigan fans claim to fame is you got the most wins all time.  Who cares what happen in the early 1900's.

Who cares J.T. was short of the first down. OSU still won the game because they have tremendous political capital. Probably more than any other program in the NCAA. Michigan fans should be jealous their program isn’t as powerful and influential as OSU’s.

Love the pick emotionally.

Disagree with it intellectually.

But I sure hope that Desmond knows something I don't - and since that is not just likely but almost certain, I take this pick as very good news.

Desmond Howard is a big time homer.  I bet if you go through his picks since he joined Gameday, especially since Harbaugh's been the coach, he hasn't picked Michigan to lose.

You can't trust his opinion when it comes to Michigan.  As a Michigan fan, I'm much more encouraged by Herbstreit's optimistic opinion of this year's team, but I do believe sometime he overcompensates because of his natural Buckeye bias.

Really, as a Michigan fan, the most positive thing you can take from that show as far as predictions are "The Bear" (Chris Fallica) saying Devin Bush is his player to watch and his high opinion of Michigan's defense.

Sports is non determinate, especially with 18 year old kids, but I trust a Heisman winners "6th sense" of an impending "magical" season as much as any other metric.

Hope you're right Des, and thanks for giving the kids some incentive.

I think this is a playoff team. I don't know that it's a NC team. My playoff predictions would be:

1. Alabama

2. Clemson

3. Michigan

4. Whoever wins the Big 12 (OU/TCU/WVU)

Alabama easily beats #4. Clemson-Michigan would be a tossup, IMO, but, all else being equal, I don't think the winner would be good enough to beat this Bama team.

There's no reason it can't happen.  We should have arguably the best defense in the country.  Very similar in that regard to 2016, when the only thing that held us back was a banged up Speight at the end of the year.  Our QB room is much better this year and Patterson is a very dynamic QB.  I'd also argue that the WR's and RB's are better than in 2016, in terms of big play potential.  The offense just has to be ok and not make mistakes for us to win probably 9 games, if it goes to even the good to above average level, I could see this being a national championship type of team.  To me this team feels very similar to the 2006 team.  Elite defense, good offense.
