Denard leading Rivals QB Power Rankings
Nestled on top of the heap, Denard sleeps soundly tonight, assured that come Saturday afternoon he will dazzle the national audience with another 500+ DenYard performance.

Note that Pryor is footnoted for his six TD's in a Tressel production of "Lets Run Up the Score on a Helpless MAC Team So That OSU Gets Some Style Points and Pryor can Pad Some Stats".
Incredible that Denard gets no love for his 12 minutes of work and 225+ QB rating performance.

Boy. What happened?
September 28th, 2010 at 10:48 PM ^
The old black shirts are back. And Washington sucks.
September 29th, 2010 at 7:39 AM ^
Man, I am glad we got Nebraska. Right time and all
September 29th, 2010 at 11:42 AM ^
Is good this year, but they could be really good by next year...
September 28th, 2010 at 11:13 PM ^
I'll be curious to see how this season effects his draft stock.
September 29th, 2010 at 7:58 AM ^
could have been an overall number one pick last draft. Now he will be lucky to get drafted in the first round at all. at least he will get a degree, though. DW - different poor choice, no degree.
September 29th, 2010 at 2:03 AM ^
he got too much hype and frankly didn't deserve it. If they want to hype a Pac-10 QB, they should've done it with Andrew Luck who is a superior prospect than Locker.
September 29th, 2010 at 2:25 AM ^
but how was that spelling mistake in the subject missed?
September 29th, 2010 at 11:05 AM ^
Enlighten me please.
September 29th, 2010 at 12:52 PM ^
You mispelled Denard's name the first time. Don't do the old edit-and-feign-ignorance routine.
September 29th, 2010 at 6:30 PM ^
To the best of my recollection, I did not change anything in the lead line. I went back to it to take a look, because I do make mistakes - often. But when I do I confess and poke fun at myself under an additional line which I start with EDIT:
I thought it was because I spelled Denard as DenYard in the body of the blog. I have used this in an attempt to imply that Denard's yards should just be called DenYards.
If there was a way for me to check to see if I made a change, I would. But it seems rather trivial.
You may take my word for it - or can chose not to. But I do 'fess up to my errors.
Go Blue.
EDIT: Did not do the old edit-feign-ignorance routine. note use of EDIT.
September 29th, 2010 at 3:36 AM ^
Seems like he's been hyped ever since he set foot on that campus. He'll have to wait until the post-season all star games and the combine to improve his draft stock.
September 28th, 2010 at 10:49 PM ^
Why is it that OSU is thought to have run up the score and Michigan did not? The scores were fairly similar. Yes, I am aware that we brought in many different players, but if they can't stop you, they can't stop you.
September 28th, 2010 at 10:51 PM ^
Yes, I am aware that we brought in many different players, but if they can't stop you, they can't stop you.
That's what you do. You bring in your backups, and then your third string, and if they STILL can't stop you, then that's just too bad. OSU did not. Pryor stayed right in there.
September 28th, 2010 at 11:16 PM ^
And it's doubly strange since their backups are total crap and could really use the reps in case Pryor goes down at some point.
September 28th, 2010 at 11:38 PM ^
Crappy backups scored 28 points in that game. Both backup QBs threw TDs, and both backup RBs scored TDs.
But you knew that already...
September 28th, 2010 at 11:55 PM ^
I did know that. The crappy backup QBs still didn't come in until the fourth quarter.
September 29th, 2010 at 9:25 AM ^
Can you explain the play calling on the halfback option throw back to Pryor for the TD when they were up big already? No offense intended to you (I value your opinion) but that was a ridiculous call, in my opinion.
September 29th, 2010 at 10:18 AM ^
That had nothing to do with this game and everything to do with future games. Now the defense knows it has to check Pryor on that rollout which will slow down the backside pursuit.
September 29th, 2010 at 12:58 PM ^
Oh, please. If I'm an opposing DC, I'm not going to freak out because in one play out of 1,000, Pryor was sent out as a WR. Tressel didn't even have the balls to call it in a real game.
It was a cheap stunt to get another highlight-reel play for Pryor. It's not a big deal. Lots of teams do this for their Heisman candidates. I find the rationalization of the play more ridiculous than the call itself.September 29th, 2010 at 4:11 PM ^
That makes no sense. Who does that slow down, the DB on the other side of the field? Also, coaches don't reveal trick plays in games where they have no reason to surprise the opposition. That makes no sense either.
No offense, but That was a clear "run-it-up" and/or "pad-stats" play call. Plain and simple.

Notice Passing vs. Running plays. Notice a lack of QB WR's.
September 28th, 2010 at 10:58 PM ^
Yeah, that's true. I didn't really realize the difference in play selection. I guess looking back at it, when they ran the Pryor receiving TD play, that was pretty absurd.
Good points. I accept them. I guess I just see the score and think same game, but not so.
September 28th, 2010 at 11:13 PM ^
It's alright. The part I missed may be the most damning for OSU's argument:
DRIVE TOTALS FROM THE ABOVE:
OHIOST drive: 5 plays 66 yards, 01:38 OHIOST TD
MICHIGAN drive: 10 plays 52 yards, 04:34 MICHIGAN TD
OSU threw 3 times on 1st down and took 1/3rd of the time to cover less yards and the game was totally in hand.
September 28th, 2010 at 11:05 PM ^
September 29th, 2010 at 10:47 AM ^
So, the answer to your question is, "No."
September 28th, 2010 at 11:14 PM ^
I don't have a problem with Pryor being in the game since it was still the third quarter and even though there was less than 1% chance EMU would come up back you still need to officially put a team away (see Michigan-Ball State 2006)
I also could understand needing style points if both osu and bama go undefeated and boise probably will be as well and possibly even oregon
and i can also understand trying to take pressure off pryor by letting him blow up so the talk can be about his monster game instead of his poor reads and arm punt interceptions in a season where you are expected to go to the title game
but calling a throwback pass to the qb up 25 in a non rival, non bowl game situation is uncalled for. and seems pointless unless the vest threw down a large pre season wager on pryor to win the heisman
September 29th, 2010 at 12:06 AM ^
And it's just plain lame to use that play against a winless, small-conference opponent. When we had Charles Woodson throw a pass, it was at Wisconsin.
September 29th, 2010 at 1:07 AM ^
I don't think Tressel gambles, but Earle Bruce sure used to like going to the track. Ask Art Schlichter.
September 29th, 2010 at 7:08 AM ^
he said arm punt....makes me laugh everytime.
September 28th, 2010 at 10:52 PM ^
September 28th, 2010 at 10:55 PM ^
Gotta be 25% less than that, right?
September 29th, 2010 at 6:34 AM ^
Denard played for 9 minutes (15%)
September 28th, 2010 at 11:22 PM ^
Doesn't deserve it's own thread so I'll say it here:
The coordinator of the nation's #2 offense is not in the top 20 for OC's. Makes sense.....
September 28th, 2010 at 11:30 PM ^
Plus one for thread restraint.
September 28th, 2010 at 11:30 PM ^
I've been watching these power ranking things for a few weeks, and it seems like Rivals must have a bone with RR and staff. There's no reason to not have them in the top 25 for their offensive success so far this year.
September 29th, 2010 at 8:04 AM ^
Its nice to have Magnum PI staking out the power rankings. thanks and keep up the good work.
September 29th, 2010 at 10:26 AM ^
Michigan's offense is a one-man show. Therefore, that one man gets the credit. Why should credit go to the guy who designs the plays for that one guy? The offense is basically just "line up, and let that fast guy run," right?
It isn't as if everyone's game plan since like 6 minutes into the UConn game has been "tackle that squirmy slithery speedy sonufabitch." Once this team faces someone who figures out that stopping Denard is important, the offense will grind to a halt.
September 28th, 2010 at 11:33 PM ^
September 29th, 2010 at 10:49 AM ^
RR isn't getting any credit either. He's not ranked in the top 25 coaches. Brian Kelly was ranked up until their latest loss to Stanford.
Shenanigans.
September 28th, 2010 at 11:55 PM ^
But settle down. Michigan does it against good Big Ten defenses then Calvin will move up. It's that simple. No bone to pick with RR and company at Rivals, no conspiracy, just win some Big Ten games with good offense and it will happen.
September 29th, 2010 at 12:55 AM ^
What good Big Ten defenses has MSU's Don Treadwell (ranked #12) proved himself against?
How about Wisconsin's Paul Chryst (ranked #7)?
Or Missouri's David Yost (ranked #16) who has played Illinois and bunch of meh non-AQs?
These rankings are pretty meaningless, but given that UM has put up the most total yards of any team in the country against a pretty reasonable schedule so far, it's pretty silly to not have Calvin or RR in a top 25.

for you guys. He's like lightning when he takes off down the field. One open gap or hole in the line and he will destroy it. I'm really anxious for Nebraska's matchup with Michigan next year. I know it is going to be a hell of a game. I can't tell you how shocked everyone here is about the Texas loss to UCLA. For some Longhorn fans in this state and down south it has been hell I've been told. My friend Andrew on Facebook posted on his status "way to go Brown were ranked below f*cking Michigan." Sucks for them. :)
September 29th, 2010 at 3:03 AM ^
"way to go Brown were ranked below f*cking Michigan."
All I have to say to that is "Get used to it."

September 29th, 2010 at 12:01 AM ^
That Schilling is slowly catching up to Boren on the list of top O-lineman, which shouldn't be a surprise, as it is expected that people catch up to people with the physique of the ghostbuster's stay puft guy
September 29th, 2010 at 2:08 AM ^
Man, I just really don't like Boren.
September 29th, 2010 at 7:36 AM ^
Doing what he did, transferring within the biggest rivalry in the country, was so weird and so despicable, and feels so damn wrong.
But when you look at his whole story, it does kind of make sense. Boren was at Michigan because Michigan was Bo's program, and Bo took a chance on Boren's dad when Woody wouldn't. If you remove Mike or Bo, Justin is your perfect Buckeye. It helped that Tressell offered Zach a role on the team as well.
Had Justin been the Baby Boomer and Mike played today, I would bet that Justin would have gone directly to Woody's Ohio State without a second thought, and Mike the overlooked 3-star with a motor, may very likely have come to play for Rich Rod.
September 29th, 2010 at 8:15 AM ^
don't care. still hate that fat fuck. for all the obvious reasons and he went to my high school - admitting this still makes me sick. I remember when he committed to UM. I was so excited to have a hometown guy Go Blue (not the first - Lawrence Reid was I beleive). transferring out of the program is one thing, but to go play for your biggest rival is just fucked up. Fuck him.
