Defense vs. Illinois Every Snap video

Submitted by Thorin on

Uploading to the MGoVideo YouTube channel has been disabled due to a copyright claim by the Michigan Marching Band for their Wizard of Oz halftime show video. I guess they didn't want 40,000 people to watch it embedded on MGoBlog and annarbor.com for some reason. I'll be uploading all new videos to my new channel:

Edit: There's some motion blur on this video that I didn't notice while editing. I'm going to try reconverting it before I edit the offense.

a couple of bags of chips and a good easy chair for this one...

This may take a while... I'll let you know when I'm done.

EDIT:  Done.  Only had time for two beers.  So, I'll watch it again.

Ha...that about sums it up. All we can hope for is competence at this point. If we can "be good at one thing," like Brian said, and have guys at the very least in the right position to make a play, I'm happy. If they're in position and don't make the play, oh well, chalk it up to talent/inexperience/whatever. I'm looking forward to seeing how "multiple" we are with our fronts the rest of the season.

Great work.  What blows my mind is that the defense didn't look *that* bad this past weekend.  Yeah, 45 points in regulation and 65 for the game are horrible, but they stopped Illinois with some regularity until later in the game, and even then some of those plays were just RPS+1 for the Illinois coaching staff.  I'm cautiously optimistic that this defense is making strides, especially guys like Demens.

Part of the reason is that they had to compensate for a -4 TO margin, which put them in tough situations.  Plus, there were stops being made out there, unlike the PSU game when UM could not get off the field without giving up points.  I'm not happy with 45 points, but considering the fact that Illinois had so many drives an average defense probably would have given up 30+ points.  Faint praise, but there is some potential here.

TV shows get a lot of exposure from youtube but it doesn't stop them from taking those videos down. It's not about exposure, it's about property. I'm not saying it's right or wrong but it is the law. They probably just want to control how it's distributed, which I would want to do if I had rights to anything.

The other 362 videos I uploaded are somebody's else's property too. Seems a bit inconsistent to me when athletic department twitter accounts are following mgovideo, retweeting videos, posting links on their facebook page but the band can't even ask me to remove their video before they file a DMCA claim.

Yeah but we are all blue here. I mean keep it in the family. If you have a problem just say something.

Also does it say you cannot record their performances? I just have never heard of such a thing. A public University's marching band hitting someone with a copyright claim. I wonder if the same holds true for the team as well.

Oh well hafltime will now be spent getting something to eat or walking around.

Considering the 5 turnovers and the great field position Illinois had all game, it gives me hope for this Saturday, assuming Michigan does not turn the ball over or give Purdue the ball on the 50 each possession.

Makes UFR sooo much better if you can watch every play read the play description and go back and watch the play again.

Makes ufr reading better and quicker than dealing with an entire game download or having no game and not knowing what's going on each play.

When I rewatched the game yesterday, I noticed that the ESPN "Impact Players" segment at the begining of the game mentioned #71 for Illinois, Jeff Allen . As I watched the game, I wanted to pay attention to their LT to see how well our players performed against their best lineman.

What I quickly realized is that #71 often switched sides... from LT to RT. Then I noticed that Illinois would run the ball 75% of the time to the side that #71 was on (on passing plays he would normally match up against RVB). I say 75% because I couldn't find him on every single snap on running plays, and also because Illinois got away from that a bit in the 2nd half. But dang... that first half I was calling almost every play depending on where he lined up (run right, run left).

Is this normal for Illinois? Did the Michigan defensive coaches ever pick up on this?

  • Cam Gordon all over the field, keeping contain, decent tackling, drew a few holding calls (one actually flagged).  Has found a new home.  He was beastly coming around the end a few times.   He will only get better at this position, IMO.
  • Vinopal and Avery did well, but youth obvious.  Tackling decent.
  • Roh never plays LB again.  Several hits on the QB, just missed a few sacks.
  • Demens still seems to be in position more than his predecessor was.
  • Rogers may have had his best game.
  • RVB and MM are studs.
  • Avery has potential to be a stud DB.

Sure we gave up 45 in regulation, but as others have said, many big plays when needed.  I haven't read the UFR yet, but I'm guessing Cam scored well.  I was tough on him before the move, but credit where credit is due...without his play we may have lost this game.

Thank you!  Had friend who missed the game due to medical issue for family member and was able to watch the entire D in less than 12 minutes.  He can't wait for the offense.

He is perfect at Spur.  I didn't see him take a bad angle all day.  Unlike FS, he has great speed for the position and is still able to hit like crazy.  He can rush the passer and he has the speed and length to cover the flats.  He will also knock a few balls loose.  Did I mention he likes to hit?  I'm gonna say All-B10 by Junior year.

LOL, You would have thought that ABC or Fox (BTN) would have hit you before the MEEEchigan Marching Band....lol.

As I said on the youtube channel you should challenge this. I am sure you could get them to retract the claim so you can get your profile back.

They could have at least contacted you and ask to take it off. Way to be all in MMB. Way to go outside of the family.

Now I wonder if the dumb major really does think he could get anyone into Michigan with his "connections" ....hmmmmm
