DEDICATED TO ACE: #5 Purdue (15-2/4-0) @ MICHIGAN (14-3/3-1), 9pm ESPN

Submitted by rob f on
I thought it would be a good idea to dedicate tonight's game thread to Ace and his ongoing quest for good health. Hoping all the positive vibes generated in this thread will bring some good mojo Ace's way and that the rest of the comments, no matter how unfunny, negative, or just plain insane, will bring smiles to his face when tempered with the realization that after all, we're all participating because of our shared love for all things MICHIGAN. To your health, Ace!!! GO BLUE, Beat Purdue!!!

That foul on Wagner was a foul.  The replay was the bullshit.  That is technically true probably literally every time a defender slaps the ball out of bounds.  But the intent of the rule, and how it is called every single time live, is that the player responsible for the ball going out of bounds was the last person to touch the ball.  So they'll only award a turnover if it bounds off the offensive player's leg on its way out.  Which is the natural interpretation of the rule.

Also Wagner didn't touch on Haas on the second or third foul.

I won't neg, but I don't entirely agree. Yes, Mo had his arm wrapped around Haas so they can make that call. But that's the kind of foul that doesn't always get called, especially because they were both fighting for position and then Mo seemed to cleanly poke the ball away.

In any case, while there is certainly justificaiton for calling that a foul, you could say the same about the previous position when Matthews drove to the basket.

You’re an idiot!!! They called three phantom screen calls during this game and they weren’t even close. You just get off being indifferent. Well don’t try so hard! It comes naturally. This game was called like we were in, West Lafayette!

All the best to Ace in his recovery.  And fuck the B1G.  Literally had the ball taken away by a bullshit call and the winning point given to Purdue by a pillowy soft call.  I'm tired of the high road.  I am tired of being boned.  The B1G and its officials can go to hell.

If you slowed it down every time the other team knocked it out of a guy's hands, wouldn't it still be touching the guy who was holding it? Literally every time in the last 100 years of basketball.

Almost every darn time a ball is poked out, the offenses hand is still on it after the force is applied to dislodge the ball.  If you are going to overturn this based on a frame are you going to tell me every poke out needs to be evaluated?  This is as crazy as someone at home being able to call penalties on golf... which they finally got rid of.  Screw this crap, that is so wrong.

I usually just read the posts but sports officiating whether it’s the NFL games the National champion game NBA game TV Ted games or tonight’s game is just plain bad! I’ve said for awhile the need for younger officials is very obvious!

I wish I could say I was surprised at the atrocious ineptitude of B1G referees, but I have come to expect them to egregiously fail at their jobs, consistently.

when the first rule of instant replays is that the call on the field/court/ice stands unless there is incontrovertible and indisputable evidence to overturn the call OR unless the original call is in Michigan's favor.

There isn't a reputable basketball mind that can justify having Moe on Haas there, instead of teske, after watching that game. Not a Beilein fan, he did well tonight. His track record down the stretch save Trey and Kam is not good. Moe and teske need more than 40 combined minutes for this team to be an upper tier team, without relying on 45% 3 PT shooting. Moe has gotten it handed to him all season by 5's on defense. Minor point but please teach Z to wait for teske's screen before going for it. Z's going to get my Cowbell many offensive fouls on moving screens by taking off w/o waiting for cowbell to be set. More cowbell.

Against power forwards. Everyone champions beileins offense, if you're going to do that, you have to stomach overmatched post defense. Moe can't guard the 5 and Irvin couldn't guard the 4 on the block. Novak either. He let beilfelt, horford, Morgan, Donnal etc share the 5 while bigger teams played ping pong on the glass. He let DJ and Moe play twins last year and we made a big ten champ, sweet 16 run.

First off, I think just as much as anyone that UM got screwed over. I thought instant reply had to be indisputable to overturn. Name 1 time that in a regular playing game that you saw an official call a play like That to the other team....exactly..never. Sad. Then after knowing they screwed us. They call that foul. Is it a foul on hook...Yes. You see those light fouls called in last few seconds of a game? Very rare. Say they got hosed 1.5 times in 6 seconds at home. Just awful.

With that said. Excited on a few things. Think Livers is finally taking minutes from D-Rob (about time!!). Z giving us nice boost at PG position. Right now Mo is real bad. Costing this team. I have said it before and I'll say it again, Poole HAS to get more minutes. I like Matthews but hate him at the same time. Super streaky shooter, can't shoot FT's, and can't go left. Poole needs more of his minutes. Overall team is progressing. Need Mo to make this a 2nd weekend team. Right now he's garbage.

When they went frame by frame there wasn't even evidence Mathias hit the ball at all. He probably skimmed Mathews hand which caused the loose ball off Mathews. If you want to complain about the officials, talk about Purdue's multi walk violations that went uncalled. The zebras were moving screen happy and should have been shuffle your feet happy.
