Ghost of Fritz…

Makes sense.  Better to have key HS coaches on your side.  And the HS coach can talk his players anytime.  College coaches have dead periods, etc.

But I am still a bit mystified by the degree of influence they still have (or at least people claim they have).

The process has sooo much more info available to the HS players than in prior generations.  Even recruits communicating with each other a lot is a huge factor now.

Anyway, the way the entire process works today is probably better for Michigan than than in the Bo and Woody era.

Not really fatal to Michigan football these days is certain in-state HS coaches steer guy to MSU (King?) or just steer guys away from Michigan (Bellville).

JH has been able to recruit top ten classes without getting much from Ohio and by passing or missing on some in-state guys.

Wish nothing but the best for this young man, really seems like a good kid but probably saw the writing on the wall. We are about to close out this class strong, especially if Brohm bolts, and playing time was not something he would see much of unless he surprised many. Not saying he wouldn’t, but certainly would’ve been tough.

What I find a little sad is that he feels like he has to tell people to respect his decision. That should be an automatic thing for people, but alas, for some people respect is predicated on your agreement or alignment with them.

I think you're reading too much into his words. This reads the same to me as most other decommitment posts, some of which were clearly because the recruit was getting better offers. Kids that have been pushed out sometimes make that very clear. As someone else mentioned, "respect my decision" is in virtually 100% percent of these announcements.

Isn't this the type of thing where Michigan tells the kid look just want to be upfront and it's going to be hard to get playing time with the class were recruiting and then it's up to the kid if he wants to come here knowing he's predicted to ride the bench until possibly his senior year or go somewhere less competitive he has a good chance of starting earlier. Some guys would rather one or the others that's why the decisions mutual.  I trust that if they offered him he'd be a positive asset to the team, but that doesn't mean he's going to be an all-conference player either, we still need quality young men and athletes to be third stringers and special teams players!

It is one of those phrases that are unnecessary to use. People will do what they do no matter how you couch your words, so it's best to be plain and simple. Haters gonna hate. Speculators gonna speculate. Bloggers gonna blog. Wish him well in his recruitment and college career. Que sera sera.

Dear Mr. Woods,

Best of luck to you in your future academic and athletic career. Thank you for considering the University of Michigan.

Wish him the best.  It will probably work out best for him - he will have a chance to go to a school were he will have the likelihood of getting a lot of playing time.

Could be Zach Harrison & George Karlaftis are on the way.

However, why would they offer Darius Robinson out of Plymouth Canton?

My guess is they offered Woods in order to sway Devontae Dobbs into committing to U of M.

My guess is this means Harbaugh thinks he’s got at least one of Karlaftis and Harrison in the fold, and has told Woods to start considering other options.

Best of luck to the kid, wherever he ends up.
