Deaf Recruit Darrion Green Lands 1st Offer from Harbaugh

Submitted by matdog05GOBLUE on

I know it still early for recruiting, but this topic makes me excitement because of myself I am Deaf. We normally do not see lots of athletes in NCAA Division 1 that are Deaf. I had play football in high school as NT and do not hear anything on the field but watch the ball snap or linebackers tapping me to communication if the shift had changed or Audible the play. Pre play watched the coaches and interpreter on the sideline giving the call plays is tough and mental thinking.  Every play I have to think quickly on everything while hearing people can calling and watch the offensive change so fast. So I relayed to see everything and communication. What I am looking forward is to see if Green go to Michigan, what kind of communication will they be using if Green is fully Deaf. Sign Language?  It would be awesome to see the team able to Sign Language.

I'll probably get negged for this, but I have a concern that it might be Jim Harbaugh trying to shine a light on Green. And like a couple of the satellite camp offers from last year, maybe it will help him earn attention and get a scholarship somewhere...but I doubt it will be at Michigan. I watched his film and I don't think he's on par with a lot of the other recruits we're going after.

It's not a bad thing if it ends with a positive result, but I have mixed feelings about something like this if the offer isn't a genuine scholarship offer to play football at Michigan.

Because Jim Harbaugh has so much time on his hands that he wants to advocate for players that, according to you, are not in his plans at Michigan. Suuuure. I can see Jim now. Poor old kid, lets make sure he plays at Syracuse instead of Western Michigan. Dont think so bud.

You mean like all the kids that he interacted with at all the satellite camps last year? Rashad Weaver, Kiante Enis, etc. Sorry, but there *is* evidence that something like that could happen.

Not WHY it happened. Harbaugh has MICHIGAN'S best intentions at heart, not these kids. Lets not kid ourselves, Harbaugh offered these kids in case he struck out on bigger targets, not because he wanted to boost the kid's offer sheet.

...and then Michigan stopped contacting them not too long after. I'm not saying it's the same exact thing (obviously it's not, because the Green offer didn't come from a satellite camp), but the offers/commitments did help guys like Weaver and Enis (and others) gain some notoriety. It turned out that Michigan recruited them as place-holders, and then moved on when better players came along.

Not only is Magnus' point plausible, but it was expressed fairly, politely, and reasonably. I don't really understand why someone would then respond so negatively. One can have a different viewpoint and engage in civil debate.

(And I realize that this could be the winner for "most naive internet comment of the day.")

Because I have so much time on my hands that I want to advocate for naive internet posters that, according to you, are the most naive in all the internet. Suuuure. I can see me now. Poor 901 P, lets make sure you're voted most naive on the internet. Dont think so bud.

you guys follow Magns blindly, take what he says as gospel. Magnus is just the grown up version of WD, someone who follows recruits on a creepy level and must have tons of time on his hands, enough so that he can create his own website and compete for points on here all day.

Magnus is just a HS coach with time. That is all, his opinion is no more valuable than any other coach or connected person on this board.

That's why.

just the other day he was complaining that people who don't coach or didn't play shouldn't be able to comment as much as people who do, or that there should be a separate site for those types.  Now he's trying to downplay a poster who IS a coach and has proven at least an above average level of understanding to the game on here.

Hey Section6 thanks for acting like a dick for no reason, everyone on the board must be crazy except for you. It's ok to disagree with the point made by Magnus but it doesn't mean you have to act like a condescending childish prick.

yet his recruit analyses are spot-on, aren't they...... don't belittle his efforts pal.... he enjoys his work and he is quite good at it

I don't follow him blindly, I READ his posts, which are typically thoughtful, logical and contribute to the board more than just bitching and snark. I don't take anything he's ever said as gospel either, but he generally makes good points based on more experience than what I possess.

Harbaugh did this with a family friend when he was at San Diego. The kid was 5'7 corner with 4.4 speed and was an elite playmaker in the state of Michigan but wasn't receiving any attention. Some say it was cause he was a white corner others because of his size. Harbaugh was his first offer, Harbaugh also made phone calls on behalf of the kid, he went from 0 offers to 9 (mostly Ivy League)
