David Long decommits from Stanford

Submitted by Magnus on

Los Angeles (CA) Loyola CB David Long, Jr. decommitted from Stanford. He says Michigan and Washington lead, and he has no timetable for his new decision.

Didn't I read that Lance Anderson's future would have an effect on whether Long stuck with Stanford or not? I wonder if this means anything with regard to Anderson, recent news notwithstanding.

Washington actually had the #1 FEI defense last year and top 10 FEI D the past 2 years... and has a defensive coordinator. And would be much closer to home.

But HARBAUGH.

This delay til mid Jan should also allow us to hire our DC if its a NFL guy.  Which it appears to be trending to.  So that should help winnow out some uncertainty.

Even with Washington's forward trajectory and great defense, I can't imagine them having a recruiting advantage against Michigan for such a great prospect who's choosing between both schools.  Washington still had a 6-6 season, and the promise of them matching our level of success over the Harbaugh years is very slim.  I would imagine Long would prefer to play in higher-profile games (with more national exposure), greater rivalries, superior bowl games, a bigger&better stadium, a richer tradition - all with a more successful head coach...  Right?

It's just that too much logic doesn't work for some people or something. Maybe they need to go against the grain? I'm starting to believe that. If that's the case guys like this need to be identified and completely bullshitted until they sign. Then be like yeah sorry but this is the best path you could've chose sucker! Deal with it.

I like David Long better, and so do the recruiting sites. They're fairly similar players when it comes to size, but Long is faster. Michigan has talked to him about using him in all three phases of the game, and I'm not sure they've had the same discussions with Hill. Also, I think Hill developed a little bit this past year, but the knock on him previously was that he was fast, could jump, etc., but he didn't make many plays.

has Daniels as recently committed to Michigan. If you are friends with Brian on Facebook, someone shared a screen grab of it. I checked on my laptop and it shows Oklahoma.

Really enjoyed watching his highlight tape. He needs some serious work with his footwork but his hips look very smooth. Listed at 5-10 and under 180 but he looks thicker than that. Impressive speed and a lot of tools to work with.

I'm somewhat excited about this news, but the kid wants to be in the engineering program you guys. It's been very well discussed on here that engineering is a hard field to be accepted into first of all at Michigan, plus even fulfill while playing on the football team. This was the issue with Hand wanting to be an engineer. I hope this doesn't become any kind of deal breaker. Maybe Long can do it.

I think Washington is probably slightly ahead, based on what I've heard him say. And he does still have a visit to UW set for January, so they'll get the last chance to impress him. That makes me slightly pessimistic, but there are still some things that could happen in Michigan's favor.
