Darius Winston (5 star) set his announcement date today as per rivals.

I checked all of the other team sights that were supposedly in the running for him and none of them are reporting this. As per Brian's rules of speculation I think it is fair to assume that Winston is Blue. If so this is RichRod's first 5 star prospect at UM and a huge pick up for us. With Warren for two more years (as of Winston's freshman year) Cissoko for 3 more and Justin Turner's commitment we are stacked at cornerback for the next 3 to 4 seasons.

He cancelled his October official visit to Michigan before he made the decision to announce... so it's not looking good. We still got a shot but don't get your hopes up.

For what its worth, some subscribers to the Scout premium board have hinted that its not looking good for us and its highly unlikely that Winston will be coming to Ann Arbor. Its very unlikely that a highly rated recruit from the south would commit to us without visiting first. Shavodrick Beaver isn't a very good comparison as his favorite school, Texas, wasn't offering him as a quarterback, but, as a wide receiver.

he committed on the spot after getting the Michigan offer. he hasn't done or said anything that would make me think he'd decommit. not to mention he looks up to boubacar, has teric on the same team, and his coach is a former Michigan RB. don't worry about big will, he's blue.

How serious do you think Winston's interest is in Tulsa? With Mulzahn (former Ark. coach) and possibly Mitch Mustain heading over, are those the pieces that a guy with Winston's talent was probably looking at? Obviously, those are guys on the offense, but DW like anyone else with 5 stars to his name wants to go to a flashy program.  So now Tulsa will be added to the list of spread O teams.  I mean, if he was serious on Ark., Tulsa has actually got to be right up there.  I wouldn't blow them off.  These are complicated decisions these young men are making; otherwise, I'd have put U-M in a secure #1 spot.  Winston will have great guys in front of him to learn from at the Big House.

Something to ponder: Michigan has a limited amount of scholarships. It is possible that Hopson and RichRod made Winston very aware of this, telling him he needs to decide sooner rather than later...so out of the blue, Winston comes out and announces that he'll be deciding in early September instead of taking all his official visits and making a decision in January.

Jeremy Gallon and DeQuinta Jones committed to Michigan without sniffing the campus. Just because Winston has an extra star next to his name doesn't mean he can't do the same.

It seems that Rivals has stepped off of their "Winston to Michigan" stance because the article can't be found on The Wolverine anymore. I like how if Brian puts something up he at least keeps it up to show that he's human (even though we all know he's a revolution sympathizer, thus not allowed to hold on to any titles including "human") but Rivals can retract anything they realize is wrong. I still hope that Winston is Blue, but it looks like they're backing off of that stance now.

I hope those two stay for their full terms. Because they are both needed. Brandon is just a heck of a football player though. He has a nose for the ball and just seems to move right to the point of attack. Warren has that big time confidence and the physical tools to back it up. With this attacking defense and say a weak offensive year, the defensive stars could garnish high spotlight attention. Which MAY, I repeat MAY, lead to NFL reviews which say they would be high second round or even second round pics. It is tough to stay if the money is on the table. doesn't Warren have an uncle who was a WR professional? Marc Carrie or something? So with Warren I'm sure he'll get good advice. Michigan needs this recruit Winston I feel.

With the amount of money that's getting thrown around at CBs lately if Warren pans out I wouldn't see him staying 4. We'll see though. The noise on Winston to M has considerably died down in the last 2 or 3 days though.

FTR: the theory is when a kid is talking to a particular's school site exclusively or near-exclusively, that's a good sign. The Winston article was relayed by national guys and the theory doesn't apply.

I'm not optimistic, but Hopson did get Jones to commit without ever visiting, so it's not totally out of the question.

The other Michigan boards I have read are pretty confident he'll wind up at Ole Miss. Given that Michigan will have presumably have Cissoko and Warren as starters heading into the spring, and that he has all but said he wants to start as a freshman I would be shocked if he choses Michigan over Ole Miss.
