Dantonio-Hecklinski incident at MHSFCA clinic today

Submitted by SpreadGuru on
This morning at the Michigan High School Football Coaches Association clinic, there was a session on recruiting. Dantonio, Michigan Recruiting Coordinator Keff Hecklinski, Wayne State's coach and a few D3 coaches were on the speaking list. The session was to help high school coaches understand how colleges recruit and what to expect.

Dantonio got up and spoke about their season, Cousins, BK Cunningham and MSU. Hecklinski got up and presented how Michigan sets up their recruiting-recruit the state of Michigan first, then the Midwest, and then nationally.

Dantonio then burst in, interrupts Hecklinski and yells, "We're not here to listen to this. Move on!"

Many coaches in the room were stunned and many lost respect for State and Dantonio because of the incident. To Hecklinski's credit, he didn't add to the childish behavior and represented Michigan with class and honor.

Most coaches were stunned but the jealous, anger-filled behavior turned a lot of people off. Other coaches on the panel were visibly bothered by this unprofessional behavior.

who always looks like he's sporting the world's largest, hardest, and most painful hemorrhoid, I can't believe he's enough of an idiot to have done this. I bet it's just a silly internet rumor.

But Lord, I hope it is true.

I also just checked over at the Rivals and Scout free message boards, and there's nothing there about such an incident. Yet.

Please to be thanks for you.  I am the Royahl Highness of Lansingonia, Prince Markus Dantonio.  I am writing of grave concern for you.  In health is not my wife, she is pregnant with the sickness.  I am requiring money of the 1,00,0000 styles.  Once sent, I will send you back the inheritance of my fortune, three thousand orange suits of prison and assorted riches of my homeland of Cincinatti.  Please email me at my internet address [email protected].

It is true; the Free Press, which for many years treated MSU football as a sort of second-class citizen, has been going out of its way to give Dantonio favorable personal treatment in the Era of Kirk Cousins.  This case will be interesting.  One option will be for the Freep to say nothing at all about it.  We'll see.  It might be something that gets a blurb not from Sharp or Rosenberg or even Snyder, but might be in the 'jurisdiction' of George Sipple.

Just imagine the freaking shitstorm that would be unleashed by the Free Press if Rich Rodriguez had ever done something like this.

if this is true, his comments are just plain stupid.  he embarassed himself in front of a very important crowd.  sounds like the dantonio we all know and love.

I will end up just commenting in a similar fashion as everyone else but, who cares? I rarely comment and this is just too good to pass up.

While I cannot fathom that he would be so insanely stupid to have said this in public, in front of an audience of people his job performance relies upon, a part of me believes this based on his mind-numbing hatred of Michigan. He just saw an article in the paper this morning that talks about Michigan's top-rated 2012 class being all but finished except for a few possibilities. What does he have? A class rated in the top 30 to 50? What else is he going to talk about except the past? He knows the best is behind him and he has to stare at 10+ years of Hoke, Urban, and Kelly? Let the career meltdown commence in 5, 4, 3, 2, 1.

I thought the same thing.  Dantonio's pride was probably hurt because he - as a head coach - was sharing the stage with a Michigan assistant coach, while Hoke was out of town for the Coach of the Year ceremony.  It's a double hit to his status (sharing the stage with an assistant, someone of lower rank) and Hoke being in Houston while he wasn't.  In douchebag fashion, he put his foot in his mouth and made it even worse for himself.

Yeah we should get a confirmation of this before we go full flame on Douchetonio.  Otherwise we're on the level of the toolbags at bucknuts who took it as an article of faith that 'durrr cHoke is negative recruiting Gaylis for scUM rabbe rabble'  Was this incident witnessed 1st hand?  It seems unlikely that even Dantonio is that big of an idiot, but this is just credible enough to believe

And, all that said, he's still a hypocritical douchebag even if this incident isn't true.

If this was a recruiting session, what would make Dantonio think that people would want to hear about their season or their completely overrated, whiny quarterback?

I understand Dantonio hates Michigan. I'd never expect him to like us in any remote sense, as that's the nature of a rivalry. But this demonstrated a complete lack of class and respect on his part (not that I figured he had any to begin with). MSU might be getting better as a football program, but they will never shake the idea that they are a little brother to us because they do it to themselves when they act like this. They never seem to understand that this what separates us from them. When they beat you, they never let you forget it and shove it in your face every chance they get. When they lose or don't get BCS bowl invites, they whine about how its not fair, or that Michigan is so undeserving. They act like 5 year olds who should just shut up, realize life doesn't give a crap about what's fair or not, and just play the hand they're dealt.

I may have hated Tressel, but I at least respected him (before the scandal), as he always respected Michigan and the rivalry. Dantonio is just a scumbag and there's no doubt his character traits trickle down to his players as well. I really hope these coaches communicate this story with the HS coaches around the state, to make sure that recruits coming out of high school know the kind of person they are getting in a coach if they choose to go to MSU.

That being said, I have no doubt this adds more fuel to the fire for next year's game.

PR nightmare for MSU going forward, mark my words. Wiser heads and honchos at MSU must wring their hands. Sore winners AND sore losers vs the grace and steadfast respectfulness of Hoke and Beilein are going to win out.

All that being said, Dantonio is not a pleasant or highly developed human being. It's not like he's going to suddenly see the light. Even Bo--combative as he was--had a great sense of humor.

and Jud's son played bball at EL and often attended games.  we would talk to him sometimes.  Jud hated recruiting.  Izzo was a  good recruiter as an asst.  for that reason, i knew he would have success at msu; just not that much success due to the UM downfall/scandal.

jud was a better coach than izzo (x and o wise) but not the recruiter.

that this story is true.  However, it's pretty unbelievable.  Yea, Danantonio is a complete jack ass, but this??  I'll be crossing my fingers for this to hit the media...

Ive been to several coachig clinics, some which held high profile coaches and some that were not so well known. I cant imagine this happening. I know MD is a grade A dbag, and has the ego to do something like this, but you'd have to think he is a little smarter than that. I am not saying I dont believe the OP, but Im going to need a link or a video or some other type of confirmation. You have to think about who would be in attendance at these meetings. Why would you do this in front of high school coaches or other people who would have influence on recruits? I mean its just not high school coaches, there could be administrators in there too. Who knows really. If this is true, then I really do think MD is losing his mind. He is a classless piece of shit, but even I dont think he'd do something like this. If so, this is an all time low and he should be reprimanded.
