Daniel Horton Rips Beilein

Per FB, below are some interesting posts from Daniel Horton's FB page:

On MBB: "Man they are not a good team. Don't make excuses for that mess bro. Kansas got bored when Michigan went zone and let them back in the game. It's time for a change in bball too. The talent difference in recruiting is ridiculous. He been there 4 years.....why is his team still "young"?"

"I feel that....my problem is I hate when coaches think they can recruit the same way they did at smaller schools......by that I mean recruit 3 star high school guys and think your coaching and player development will make them great players. You can't do that at Michigan and expect to win. Amaker recruited on a national level and recruited big time players. Beilein has too much confidence in himself. Coach K goes and gets the best....always has. Even when he first started and they were bad. When I watch both football and bball the level of talent is frustrating. I shouldn't be the last Micky Ds all american Michigan has had.....I graduated high school damn near 10 years ago!!"

"And to prove my point when I tell people Bill Martin didn't give a shit about the bball program he gave this guy an extension to 2015 before he retired.....lmao. his record is waaaay worse than tommy amakers at the same point. You can't even tell they made the tourney two years ago. Amaker took over a program in worse shape and turned it around and made the job attractive. Beilein came in and didn't even try to keep amakers top 10 recruiting class michigan had except for Manny. You can't win if you don't have players....I don't care how good a coach you are. And UM deserves better!!"

Your thoughts..? Anyone remember his domestic assault case where he choked his gf and embarrassed our school?? I don't believe there's a lot of room for him to critique in any regard.

This one statement--"Beilein came in and didn't even try to keep amakers top 10 recruiting class michigan had except for Manny"--is so laughable that I have no interest in commenting on anything else Horton says. Alex Legion? Really?

For the record, Beilein kept not only Manny but also Grady (who left later, of course, but that's another issue). Also, it's not like the roster that Beilein inherited from Amaker was filled with blue-chippers. Among the scholarship players were Reed Baker, Ron Coleman, K'Len Morris, Kendric Price, and Jerret Smith.

"Who's Darius Morris?" -- Daniel Horton

If you think taking two top-five teams to the wire, and taking your team to the Dance with a pair of walk-ons at the point isn't a sign of good coaching, then I want you to stop huffing paint and go shopping with me. We'll clean you up, son.

I must say that I have to agree. I just had this conversation with my cousin yesterday. Much like RR, I think that JB and his 1-3-1 zone has never been a fit in the big ten. And as for recruiting, he leaves a lot to be desired. He has never brought in a top recruit, or at least a decent big man, which IMO is essential to win in the big 10.

I hat to bring this up, but look at OSU. When Thad matta was hired they were in about the same or worse shape than we were/are and his second year brought in the number 1 or 2 recruiting class, and has continued to bring in top recruits and compete on a national level.

I think that this year would be the time to make a move. We have some good young talent that a great recruiter could come in and add to. Imagine this team 1-2 years down the road with an older/more experienced hardaway/Morris with a dominant big man added to the mix.

I hope that DB gives the same attention to mbb at the end of the season and makes a great hire for us.

once it became clear that amaker was a lousy coach his recruiting classes went in the tank. as it stands, beilein is bringing in better talent than amaker did at the same point in his tenure.

D Hort is an asshole. Amaker couldn't coach worth his left nut. How long did it take for Amaker to get Michigan back to the tourney? Oh wait, I forgot, he never succeeded. As for Beilein's record, it is going to take a hit when you go 10-22 in your first year...and then follow that up the next season with wins over highly ranked UCLA and #4 Duke and a tourney appearance in which we made it to the 2nd round and played Oklahoma down to the wire when UConn didn't even keep the game close.

Maybe it's a tired excuse, but it just seems like RR and Beilein have both had a poor rate of player turnover--the wrong players leaving at the wrong time. No one really expected this year's team to be very good anyway. Gotta hand it to Amaker though--I don't know what it is about the guy, but his buddies seem to like defending him by trashing Beilein.

Ummm...just saying...they're not playing the 1-3-1 much...

That stifling defense yesterday was mostly man-to-man, if the MSU announcers are to be believed (had to listen on WJR)...

You mention the assault charge......But really what does that have to do with someones opinion of how a program recruits...... Did you forget Kobe Bryants charge....How bout the recent Jalen Rose DUI incident. People are human and entitled to their opinions and mistakes. Mr. Horton is actually happily married now with kids. So its obvious he learned from his mistakes. He played in the program so I think his opinion holds more weight than any blogger who looks for the opportunity to point out someone's mistakes.
