"Dandy Don's" Will Campbell Recruiting Update

Submitted by Jay on
Somebody emailed this link to me this morning, so, I thought I'd post it because it has some "info" regarding Will Campbell and LSU. Its about mid way through the page. http://dandydon.com/ While on the subject of recruiting, I received several emails Wednesday asking about the odds that I had by the names of the recruits I listed in my Wednesday morning update - in particular, Rueben Randall, Andre Debose and William Campbell. I have five sources for information in Bastrop for Rueben Randle and they tell me that it is not a done deal at all, but they feel like LSU leads for Randle and that is why I list him at 60-40. As for William Campbell, I list him at 60-40 because he has told an LSU commitment more than once that he was going to sign with LSU. As for Debose, he wrote a term report at his school on Les Miles and I think that is a good sign.

Jay, how are you always able to find every piece of bad "news" on the internet? I've never heard anyone say that Campbell has told LSU commits that he's signing too. I think this guy's full of crap.

is going elsewhere IMO, everyone keeps assuring that he is a Michigan lock, but why decommit then? I mean he could remain a blue commit and still go on officials

Other schools weren't going to host him. People need to settle down with the RoJo/Nick Perry paranoia in regards to Campbell. Look at the facts. He has two current teammates committed to Michigan in his ear. He has a former one (Cissoko) already on Michigan's team. His coach is a UM grad, all of his coaches and family are UM fans. NOTHING from any of the insiders at Rivals or Scout changed after his visits to Alabama and LSU. It's been nothing but supreme confidence all the way. His visit to USC that was supposed to happen this past weekend DIDN'T. Let that sink in for a second. PETE CARROLL isn't recruiting him because he doesn't think he can sway him away from Michigan. And now he leaves the Miami coaches waiting at his house for 40 minutes during their in-home visit. He's already pushed back his official visit to Miami. Does this sound like someone who is anxious to find out everything he can about Miami? Campbell is Blue. He always has been. Ronald Johnson was a unique and unfortunate situation. Nick Perry never came out and said Michigan was his school. He never publically committed to Michigan. It's regrettable and pretty shitty that Michigan let them slip away. But this isn't some set pattern here. There's no rule that says a star in-state kid has to go elsewhere because kids in previous classes did. Campbell is his own man, and at the Army All American Game, he's going to be his own Michigan Man.

Oh, and one other thing, take a closer look at "Dandy Don's" website. More specifically, look at his predictions for the 2008-09 season. Let's see, he has Notre Dame 16th...UCLA 14th...MICHIGAN 6TH...oh, and LSU 1st. Not only is he a homer, he is a clueless and confused homer. I think I'll trust people who are actually in touch with reality over some old guy running an LSU website spewing out propoganda that LSU fans want to read about.

I've always had a hard time believing that other coaches would not let Will Campbell visit if he didn't decommit. Players who have given verbals are taking visits to other schools all over the country.

I always viewed it as as more of an RR policy vs. other school's coaches thing, i.e. Campbell is "committed but wants to visit" and RR's stance is "you are not committed if you are visiting". Thus, Campbell has to de-commit in order to take his visits. On the other hand, I don't think RR would have done anything had Campbell remained committed and took visits. But, the way that it is playing out might just be a formality. We'll find out soon enough, anyway.

Tom, from your experience, do you think it's a good policy? Is it more likely for a recruit to react to that like "Wow, this guy's serious, I better make sure I'm solidly on board" or "Jeez, this guy's a hardass. I need to find somewhere else to go"?

There's not really a cookie cutter answer here, since every kid is different. I know Bryce McNeal didn't like it, obviously. Some of them take a step back and think of it as a good thing, that they want everyone to buy in. Sometimes the parents get involved, and talk to the kid about commitment. It all just depends really. I also think Rich Rod is doing this early on with the recruits to make sure they're 100%, and to make sure there's the least amount of attrition with them later on. He scrambled a little, and had to do some things he's probably not used to, to make sure he got his guys and they all wanted to put in the work. The current players will tell you, it's tough. Barwis, as we all know, is crazy. It's even a transition for them.

Grandma Minnie's Old Fashioned Sugar Cookies. INGREDIENTS 3 cups sifted all-purpose flour 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder 1/2 teaspoon salt 1 cup white sugar 1 cup butter 1 egg, lightly beaten 3 tablespoons cream 1 teaspoon vanilla extract DIRECTIONS Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C). Over a large bowl, sift together all-purpose flour, baking powder, salt, sugar. Cut in butter and blend with a pastry blender until mixture resembles cornmeal. Stir in lightly beaten egg, cream, and vanilla. Blend well. Dough may be chilled, if desired. On a floured surface, roll out dough to 1/8 inch thickness. Sprinkle with sugar; cut into desired shapes. Transfer to ungreased baking sheets. Bake for 6 to 8 minutes, or until delicately brown.

You watch the show, right? Yes, it is a "character" and "a joke", but the part he plays on TV IS a right-wing free-market capitalist.

Jay doesn't like Sugar Cookies. When his parents asked what he wanted, he refused to accept sugar and was reported as saying "I don't support these sugar cookies, I'll eat them anyway, but what I really wanted was Chocolate Chip like you initially promised."

You trust a guy named "Dandy Don" when it comes to information about a highly-touted recruit going to Baton Rouge? As someone already pointed out, there's no way in hell LSU's class last year was #1.

Uh, Where did I say that I trusted the guy? A friend of mine emailed me the link. I thought I'd post it for everybody, nothing more, nothing less.

It just irritates people. Posting of negative information is annoying but can be dealt with when there is a credible source. The fact that you post this stuff, which can be dismissed so quickly as worthless dreck, shows that you are more concerned with spreading negative rumors that posting useful information.

Sommy

Your negativity is obnoxious, and even more so when even you admit that the source of the negative information in question isn't necessarily credible. The only cure for my forehead slapping problem is to stop reading what you post.

If you and GCS don't like what I post, then DON'T read them and, for the love of god, DON'T waste your time responding to them. Got it?

but only because he decommitted. Otherwise everything points to an eventual signing with Michigan. Even if he doesn't turn out to be the uber-star most say he is, he's a recruit you don't want to lose.

Looks like he drinks the urine of young boys. His "answers" seem horribly out of tune with most credible sources. Like, consider the following: "While on the subject of college football, I am sure that most of you are aware that Tommy Tuberville has been fired as the head coach at Auburn. My guess is that Tuberville will get the Mississippi State job and Tommy Bowden will get the Auburn job, but that is just a guess." Tuberville has stated pretty explicitly that he intends to stick around the school. And, based on his discussions with the AD, he seems like he's just tired of coaching for a bit, likes the school, and wants to take it easy. And why the fuck would Auburn hire Tommy Bowden? Because they still have that lingering good taste of the Terry Bowden era? If. Auburn.Hires.Tommy.Bowden.They.R.Dum. I dunno, I'm not saying Big Will ain't going to LSU or somewhere other than M, I'm just saying that Dandy Don has comes across as the kind of guy that thinks eating at Denny's is fine dining.

There were few things better than a Moons Over My Hammy at 3am. However, I do concede I have not been to a Denny's since high school, and hope that my taste buds have evolved from enjoying steaming piles of greasy shit.

Late one night. At Denny's. Ordered the Meat Lover's Skillet. Girls show up. Waitress asks what they want. Girl says, "Can I get what he's having, but without all the meat, and can I get it on a plate instead of that thing?" Waitress confirms, "Okay, one Meat Lover's Skillet -- no meat, no skillet."

Nothing beats a nice 4 am snack at Dennys. I personally prefer the country fried steak with the biscuits and the pancakes and eggs. I had that before my human physiology final and there is a reason why I haven't been there since.

Oh shit, I know why he posted this. He still wants Les Miles, so if Will Campbell goes to play for Les at LSU he can write a much longer bitching post. He was planning in advance, tricky Jay, tricky.
