Damien Harris's Top 4 does not include Michigan per Rival's Mike Farrell

Submitted by EastUGoBlue on

"@rivalsmike: Hearing that #Florida #FSU #Alabama and #OhioState are top four for nations No 1 RB Damien Harris right now from good source."

I understand this is coming from Farrell who is a polarizing guy but he's fairly plugged in. This isn't great news on a Friday. Thoughts?

He just posted a pic of himself within the last two weeks in Florida gear saying "Go Gators." I wanna say it was on IG, but I'm not positive. I know you guys don't wanna hear these truths, but the players' sentiments over Hoke and co. that I tried in vain to tell this blog about, are not only true, but in the words of an unnamed returning starter (recently), "the recruits are hearin' this bs and that's why they decommittin'."  Verbatim. Downvote me, ban me, whatevs Idc. Just know that Hoke's approval rating amongst his players, is through the floor right now. #Truth

I think anybody surprised by this news hasnt followed recruiting very closely through the past 15 years or so.  While there are always exceptions people will point to - almost without fail when a player de-committs from a school, any school, they seldom reconsider and re-committ.

And yes, while not surprising, also not very happy news on a Friday.

I think this is surprising, if true.  Unlike other decommits, Damien Harris has still stayed in close contact with Michigan and has visited, if not multiple times.  He still posts pictures on his Twitter of himseld in Michigan gear and so on.  I certainly don't think we're out of this one.

Unless your Barry Sanders, the Offensive Line is FAR more important than a fricken RB.  Unfortunately, last few years and this year, we will NEED Barry Sanders because our offensive line is going to be horrid again.  I believe the big jump will come next year when our line finally resembles an upper B10 offensive line.

This year we will go as far as Devin Gardner basically single handidly can get us, and PRAY our defense is top 20.

I am cautiously optimistic about the OL this year. I agree that after this year the line should go 2-3 deep of older, more experienced earth movers. I'm just hoping that the new offensive schemes will allow them to gain positive rush yards this season.

It's frustrating because those positions could make or break the season. I feel that the other offensive positions (RB, QB, WR, TE) are all primed and ready to go. If and when all the offensive groups are on line together there is talent on this team to do some damage.

I am not even remotely optimistic.  Losing our All American LT and Senior RT, Underclassmen coming up to replace, I think we will be as bad or worse than last year.  I hope I am wrong.

Mike Farrell, is he the same guy who was saying Hand to Michigan the day before he chose Bama?  Really let the kid go elsewhere if he wants to.  We've had several RB's who haven't panned out to expectations, whose to say this kid will be any different.  Maybe he wil, maybe he won't, but I'm going to get excitied or disappointed about a kid who hasn't played a down in college yet.  Hopefully this staff will find the kid who can be great and develop him.

not the case if this dudes as good as everyone says.  sure, average to good RBs get it done every weekend and teams win conferences and bowl games all the time without superstars at RB.  but if you have a chance to bring in a legit game-breaker then theres nothing to talk about.  theres plenty of good backs out there and many will be successful but very few can turn no gain plays into 4 yards, or 6 yarders into 60 yards.  very few who have the ability to house it any given play against top college competition....if harris is as good as his rep, then hes a dude who can hit a seam and break off 50-70 yards...those guys dont grow on trees  (just like beast DLs or DBs like peppers, gotta get as many as possible when possible)

I don't diagree that this is typically true, but Harris hasn't seemed that against UM as much as he was surprised with Borges's firing.  He probably won't be back, but this feels a bit more unique than a guy just cooled on the team because of losing or recruiting from another place.

But we'll see.

I'd go get that bag of road salt, or table salt if you are closer to it, take a pinch of it and swallow it with this news! :)

Have a great Friday and GO BLUE! May the bball team make TN volunteer for mercy tonight!

All we need is a 10 win season and the kid will be back. If he decides to go somewhere else, then best of luck to him as long as he is not at OSU and does not play against us.

absolutely.  winning cures a lot.  and a good year with successful season by RBs goes a long way.  but i dont blame the kid at all, i wouldve stepped back from michigan too after the worst OL performance in schools history.  unless he cannot possibly see himself enojying his college experience anywhere but UM, he needs to make best decision for his future and be able to live with it for life.  obviously the dude has been blessed (i dont know if hes as truly special athlete as peppers but certainly enough to consider pro football as viable option)  and he needs to go where he envisions the most success....and success for someone like him sounds like 1st round money, not necessarily a fun 4 yrs and great degreee.  so maybe football factories with more success on recent draft days are best option.  certainly not gonna knock the kid.  hoke blew it last year with offensive disaster.  hopefully green and smith bust out for 1600 yds and 20 TDs this year but wouldnt hold your breath

Someone should email that to asshat Mike.  DeShawn Hand to Michgian is what he was saying for how long?  And he was so called 'closely connected' to him beyond anyone else.  Yeah, i almost believe what that prick writes.

Now - I don't disagree with you regarding Mike Farrell's prickness.  However, he's right a lot more than he is wrong about this stuff.  It's possible he was right about DeShawn for a while - remember a lot of our recruiting class expected him to commit to Michigan as well.  He has been wrong before and will be wrong again, but the guy has a pretty accurate track record.
