Dallas Football Classic - Confirmed
I didn't see this anywhere else and I know we've seen a fair bit of speculation on it but I heard on the radio this morning here in DFW that the Cotton Bowl committee has finalized their plans for the replacement game at the Cotton Bowl dubbed the Dallas Football Classic and, depending on how you look at it, the good/bad news is it's against a C-USA opponent rather than a Big 12 opponent. Should be good for the Big Tens bowl record although it might not be as big a draw as, say, playing a Big 12 team in Big 12 country but I think we've got enough of that stuff playing against the SEC in Florida for 3 different games.

EDIT: The first game will be played on Jan 1, 2011 so that makes 5 of the 6 New Years Day bowl games with Big Ten representation (Rose, Gator, Capital One, Outback, Dallas the only other one is the Fiesta since the official Cotton Bowl game got moved to Jan 2)

New Year's Day has been and will continue to be one of my favorite days of the years

The Cotton Bowl is cool as hell. Fun fact: The daytime scenes from the video I Won't Forget You by the rock band Poison were recorded during the 1987 Texxas Jam on June 20, 1987.
Would have been better against a Big 12 team, but this will do.

Big Ten started getting themselves in some "favorable" bowl agreements... there's nothing that will change a national perception writ large faster than:
1) Big wins in OOC games in Sep
2) A winning bowl record, especially on New Years Day bowls

So I guess we worked out the problem with some of the New Years Day bowls requiring that they be the ONLY BigTen game on TV at their time. I can't imagine how else we fit that many games on.
I don't like the pile up of bowl games on the 1st. I miss too many games. Some of these crappier bowls should be moved, in some cases moved back, into December.

Playing on New Year's was something to be proud of showing you had a good season and made it to a worthy bowl. Now it is diluted, and heck Michigan State could play regularly on New Year's.
I do enjoy having multiple games, but I would like to see all Big 10 bowl games, and this makes that impossible.

I agree I actually feel like less people will watch the New Years Day games than say a prime time Alamo Bowl that was in December.
Im for sure not going to watch any game that is opposite Michigan. I havn't seen the Cotton Bowl or Gator Bowls in a long time. I always watch the Big Ten games that are on at the same time. But I watch every second of every game in December.

Only complaint: The Anything "Classic" is a stupid name and is only ever attached to games that aren't classic by any definition of the word.

With the following exceptions:
* Coke Classic
* Classic Rock involving Motown, Bob Seger, or early Rolling Stones
* Classic Concentration

It's also a little presumptuous to call something "classic" that hasn't even debuted yet. To me, "classic" implies a little history.

FWIW, I would half consider this bowl a classic, as it really is the Cotton Bowl.

I think it's starting to get ridiculous how many bowl game they're having.. the number is 36 now? The article said they'll be cutting some, but still, there need to be less bowls, especially on New Years. When your top 3-4 teams in the league make it to a New Years game you know something's wrong.

im glad that C-USA got a bowl game on new years day... but id much rather b10-b12
and its bad that top 5 big 10 teams r in bowls... well i guess its good for the universities to have teams in 5 major bowls.... good money for us too :D
