This kid might just be set on getting out of the area. Seems he doesn't want to take a good look at the team in his back yard. The safer play is to stay close to home and South Bend may be just the right distance away. Wish the best to the kid.

From everything that has been out there....it really seems like his mom is going to make sure he gets out of this state and away from his father.

Wouldn't be surprsied if ND is selling him on a J Smith comparison either.

already picking over the carcass of USC the same way they snatched up one of Hokes recruits when that player smelled or was convinced some how that Hoke would be history very soon......

Would be a huge get. Our LB corps could use some help next year: I see a lot of Gedeon/McCray nickel lineups next year unless we get a guy like Hayes.

Bush would be a big get as well.

ND is basically in Michigan. He should go to Cal or FL if he needs some distance from a bad family situation. But if he's going to stay in the upper mid-west he should go blue. M actually has great support structures in place for helping students work through family issues.

The MRI is really to determine if I need surgery or just physical therapy," he said. "But I'm not playing anymore this season."

It is a sad ending to what seemed like a potentially brilliant high school career.

"I just can't catch a break in the high school game," Hayes said. "One of the biggest things I came to the realization of is I'm really not in control of anything."

Hopefully things work out the best for him, does not look like he has any interest in coming here but maybe 3 straight shut outs change that. It's nice to see everyone's commits visiting for our games versus the exact opposite happening last year.

And there is very little film at that. I don't see how his rating is so high. He hasn't played enough to grade out a high 4*. With his injuries mounting up I'm not sure we should target this guy. However I will yield to the coaching staff if they pursue him. Vi just don't see it. Anybody else see what I'm seeing?

WHAT'S NEXT: Even before Sunday's news, Hayes had scheduled an official visit to Notre Dame to coincide with next weekend's game, which coincidentally is when the Fighting Irish will play host to USC. Hayes previously took an unofficial visit to South Bend to see Notre Dame's home opener on Sept. 5, saying after that he had a "great time" and "felt like I was a priority recruit." Hayes will be joined on next weekend's official visit by his mother.

OTHER CONTENDERS: Last month Hayes mentioned Ole Miss as a potential official visit destination andMichigan State had also come up as a team he was considering over the summer. When I spoke with Hayes at his game this past Friday, however, he told me he had cut off contact with other schools and that only USC and Notre Dame were under consideration. Now that he is open, it will be interesting to see which, if any, schools jump back into the mix.

RIVALS' REACTION: That Hayes has decided not to attend USC is not a huge surprise, but the timing was unexpected, even with the situation unfolding at that program today. A mid-year enrollee, Hayes had already signed his grant-in-aid form with the Trojans and was announced by the University as a member of the 2016 class. Prospects can sign multiple grant-in-aid forms, so that does not hold him back from pursuing other schools, but this is a major turn from the discussion I had with him on Friday.

Notre Dame obviously has a great opportunity to seal this recruitment up when Hayes makes his official visit to South Bend next weekend. The 6-foot-3, 254-pound linebacker has always welcomed the comparisons to current Irish linebacker Jaylon Smith and he has come out of previous visits to the school impressed and feeling like it was a good fit for him. This recruitment really hinges on the upcoming official visit and I would be surprised if he left South Bend without a commitment.
