CUSA + MWC = BCS?

This actually sounds like an awesome idea. Barring all the formalities, the two non-AQ conferences are talking about a postseason play-in game between the two champions, with the reward being a trip to the BCS.

I'm not sure whether they could still play a conference championship game (15-game seasons?), but watching Houston play Boise State for a spot in the BCS sounds pretty epic, to me.

But a garunteed BCS spot is much better then trying to hope that you get one of the few at large bids, at least that is what I assume they are trying to accomplish. As it is right now they have to be undefeated to even get a chance at an at large bid.

I think the best team out of 20 mid majors is likely to be pretty good. I wonder if this would deter BYU from leaving. That would mean BYU/BSU/TCU would play ECU/Houston. I think the winner of that would be worthy of a BCS game.

Have the two highest rated AQ's play for one Non-BCS bid. That way, the Non-BCS gets representation, and you don't have to worry about some 11 win team that played crappy competition sneaking in even though they suck.

Also, I hated this MWC, CUSA business. You ever hear of the MAC? Sun Belt? Yeah, sure, the conferences aren't as strong, but they're stlll D1 conferences. They deserve an equal shot at a BCS berth. If you're divvying one up automatically between the MWC and CUSA, then their chances go PHHHT!

But I want to see them play in for a sixth spot in a playoff with the champions of what should turn out to be five superconferences in a few years.

Counting championship games, it would create a de facto 12-team playoff.  Because conference champions get in, it would encourage them to schedule great teams out of conference.  So, for example, the chances of seeing Alabama, Florida, Oklahoma, or Texas in the Big House someday would suddenly become a lot greater.

For example, last year, fudging a bit and counting the Big East as part of the ACC, a six team playoff of conference champions with 1 and 2 seeded into the semis may have looked like this:

Non-AQ play- in: BSU vs TCU

Quarters:

Cincinnati vs OSU

Oregon vs BSU

Semis:

OSU vs Texas

BSU vs Alabama

Finals:

Alabama vs Texas

In other words, I feel the BCS actually got it right last year, but it would have been nice to see a true playoff.  And I would like to see a system where it helps teams to schedule marquee games OOC instead of penalizing them.  Also, the OSU/Cincy matchup and BSU/Alabama rematch where both teams had something on the line would have been great.

Most of all, though, I want to see the National Championship determined on the field with even non-AQ's having a chance to get in.
