This kid is perhaps our second-most important get (arguably our first if DG redshirts or Tate just blows up) and he's professed his love to the school for a long time. It would be nice to just get him in the fold ... no Rojo surprises please.

Because God knows that Freshman at Michigan typically do studly things. I'd really like to know what some of you smoke to think that high schoolers are just going to come into a college program and turn things around in a heart beat? But you probably think that GArdner is going to master RR's spread program over the summer because chances are he will not enroll early.

I doubt that Gardner will be redshirted, or at the least not at first. I don't think that Gardner will be redshirted next year in the end. It is, however, possible that he has a redshirt on him at some point. I just would have to think that he would be needed if Tate gets hurt similar to the shoulder this season. Sorry, but Denard isn't a true QB, and Conelius Jones isn't very well developed yet. I wouldn't be surprised to see RichRod throw a red shirt on Gardner in the beginning of the year and then wait to see how Tate does. Tate will only get better, and should be a solid QB next season with at least a few less mistakes. He seems to be getting more comfortable in the pocket, but still looks like he is trying to do too much.

Another potential perspective here is that in the most important year of Rich Rod's career he might not want to start a true freshman QB who, while possessing off-the-charts athleticism isn't exactly the most polished QB in the world. Anybody who thinks there's "NO way" Devin Gardner redshirts is kind of crazy. In an ideal world, he redshirts. Or, I suppose, maybe he comes in situationally next year and redshirts the following year.

and proves himself to be the 2nd best QB, it's going to be mighty hard for him to get through next season with a redshirt intact. If he can't beat out Denard Robinson, he's a near-certain redshirt unless something goes horribly awry.

I'm glad I'm not the coach who has to make this decision. I suppose if he just wows everyone during summer camp then I would throw him in the mix. I know Tate could beat him out as starter every year but you could develop real depth at the QB spot. The downside would be that Gardner would only have one year as a starter in 2012. I know Tate will not be the second fiddle and if he loses his starting job in 2010, he will transfer. If you red shirt Gardner he would have a better chance of learning the offense and develop skills then be ready to back Tate up in 2011 and take over the offense as a starting QB in both 2012 and 2013. The downside is that some other spread QB in the 2010 or 2011 class could develop and Gardner would spend his career as a backup(this seems unlikely). I would turn DROB into a super back, a back who could catch and make big yak's or run the ball or even throw occasionally, kind of like Percy at Florida.

and then will decide with a live poll. Lou Holtz' comments will be unintelligible, and all the other commentator's two cents will be worth exactly that. This is the most played out quasi-debate we've had. I'm going to start double-posting kitten pictures whenever this topic finds its way back onto the board. Bring on Mr. Cullen!

If I had to choose, I'd have Turner play both safety and corner. Of course, that would involve cloning Turner, but I know a guy who knows a guy... Anyway, that's a tough question. I think Turner could be great at either position. Since I think Christian should play safety, I guess that means I'd like Turner to play corner. But from what I've read, Christian really wants to play corner and Turner doesn't care too much one way or the other. Either way, I'll be happy if we get Christian. He's a good kid and a good athlete. He just doesn't have as much upside at corner, in my opinion.

gardner's a stud, but never say never about a freshmen either redshirting or starting. theres so much that could happen in support of either option. tate and denard are going to make huge strides this off-season. denard could struggle to pick up the offense. tate and denard could not really improve that much. denard could pick up the offense very quickly. at this point, we've just got to sit back, and enjoy the ride. either way, the qb play WILL be better next season, and thats something we can all agree to be excited about.

I havent seen anything on him yet tonight. All I can say is that Sam Webb says he has a "strong gut feeling" and that he will likely have a special guest on tomorrow's radio broadcast. Read between the lines. Sam or Tom or anyone else don't want to steal Cullen's thunder. Let him get all the attention he deserves.
