CT coach Wilcher is NOT happy with Meyer, Ohio State

Submitted by Auerbach on

"I think Urban Meyer will have to step his game up; we're going to have to talk," Cass Tech football coach Thomas Wilcher told Detroit Sports 105.1 on Friday. "He has come to my school and got the No. 1 athlete two years in a row.

"You cannot come over here, come up to the north and walk out of here with your pockets full and not give us respect.

"That's not gonna happen again, I can tell you that right now."

Wilcher told 105.1 he has talked to Weber several times, and that Weber is not happy at all.

Wilcher was asked by 105.1 host Matt Dery if Weber would be sticking with Ohio State, and he wouldn't say that.

He said Weber is talking things over with his family and figuring out what his options our [sic].

They are in a no win situation of their own creation if Weber asks for his release. You either grant it and tacitly admit you screwed him over or make a kid that doesn't want to be there stay on your team until he can transfer. I'm sorry Weber has to go through this but I'm really enjoying OSU looking like dirtballs.

But it doesn't seem to be that "cut & dry" based on what I've been reading.

Not saying that he can't take legal action, but OSU has the tools to drag this out for a long time. It wouldn't be in their best interest, but if they want to get back into CT ever again to recruit another player, then they should probably release Weber now.

I don't think that OSU counsel would laugh at a demand letter if the facts are as bad as they certainly seem to be: meaning, the coach had the job in his pocket, but said he had to wait until NSD to make it official; meanwhile, he talked with Weber and said things that indicated he would be coaching Weber at OSU, and that was a reason to come there.  If there is evidence Urbs knew the guy was leaving--of course, he did--this would give even more reason for concern.  I think OSU looks like slime if those facts are established, and I think you have a good lawsuit against the school, NCAA and Big Ten if they don't turn you loose to sign wherever you want without waiting.  I doubt the NCAA wants another fight where it looks like a bully and might well lose.  And I'm a lawyer too.

The far more likely outcome is Weber waits out one year for his LOI to expire and then signs with a team in 2016.  The problem is that he is no-man's land in terms of schooling, since he obviously can't go back to HS and I'm not sure if he could go to another college as a student without drawing the ire of the NCAA.  It's actually pretty F'ed up, and I'm not sure OSU would do much to make his life any easier.

Michigan fans on this blog have been talking mad shit about Weber. Just yesterday he was said to be dumb enough to choose the Buckeyes and his competitive nature was attacked and questioned. It's been an ongoing thing since the decommitment. If I'm Weber, I'm not sure if I'd turn a blind eye to something like that. I'll paraphrase Carmelo Anthony as he dealt with Knicks fans behind the players' bench: "Don't think you're gon' cheer for me after saying stuff like that. I ain't trying to hear it."

Wide brush--sure, "bud," but what part is inaccurate? I'm a bit older than Weber, but as a kid, I probably would've thought, "Ohio State misled me. Many of Michigan's fans have been talking trash about me. I'll go somewhere else where I don't have any history tied to my name other than I'm good at running a football."

but Michigan fans who said he was unwise in choosing Ohio State seem to have been proven right, and pretty quickly.

Anytime you decommit from a school and commit tot their main rival, you are going to have some jackass fans say bad things about you.  That's just the way it works.  Especially whn you take pot shots at the team's coaching staff on your way out.  Michigan has it's share of idiot fans just like any other program.  If Weber is making his decisions based on the vocal idiot portion of each team's respective fan bases, then good grief, every team is in trouble.

There were Michigan fans here and on twitter upset with Weber's decision and acting like idiots in insulting a high schooler. That being said, all fan bases has plenty of morons who say stupid stuff all the time, if you think people here are worse than other fan bases I don't know what to tell you. If Weber decides not to go to Michigan after this that is fine, but I certainly hope its not because he thinks the fans here are so much worse than they are anywhere else.

I know, it's like the internet is full of people of varying opinions and personal beliefs.  And sometimes those people react differently/wrong/rightly to a situation.

Yes, some people talked crap about Weber when he went to OSU.  OSU fans will talk crap about him if/when he leaves.  That's life - if your argument is that people are hypocrites, then you have identified every person in the history of the world.

I didn't call anybody a hypocrite. I'm saying that I doubt fans at Wisconsin or Iowa or Alabama or Clemson are trashing him over his decisions, which means they could be shinier destinations than the ones who misled him and the ones who showed animosity toward him. Think like a high school kid for a second...

I agree with all of you but we also don't know who is stiring up the hornets nest by being in his other ear telling him all the bad of Urban and OSU  (...CT coaches.... other program coaches...etc)

This could get real interesting....

I agree but I am a huge believer in karma. It's going to catch up with him one day. This Weber incident might be it....it might not be...but mark my words, his day is coming.

Also I wanted to add, if Weber does stay it doesn't mean that Urbbie snake oiled his brain back to where he wants it. Weber and family may feel they have really no other option but to stay. His options are very limited. Stay, sit out for at least a year waiting on his transfer to expire at another school, or leave the B1G. Which is the easiest of the three here?

Sounds like that would work out really well for Weber and the only people who it wouldn't work out for are Michigan fans?

If Weber gets talked of the ledge (and he may not even be on the ledge), has a successful career at OSU and then graduates to the NFL, is any of this really going to hurt anyone but the Michigan fans who don't want OSU's football team to win games?

If your scenario happens, it seems like Weber will be happy. Don't you want that?

Player: Coach remember that one time you tricked me when I was making the biggest decision of my life? Coach: Look son, everything worked out didn't it? Player: yeah I guess that's true. Coach: and without me you would have just been average, but We didn't want average! Player: truth coach, your the best!

are misstatements of material facts that had a direct impact on a young man's decision for his future.

In such areas as an executive doing this to shareholders, he could (and would) be prosecuted.

Business owners would be sued.

This is an ethical issue that goes far beyond a few butthurt Michigan fans.

Not to mention this behavior is not inconsistent with the reputation that Urban build down in Florida.

But his sins are going to be forgiven, because he wins national championships.  And if the heat gets turned up, he bolts for TV or (in other instances) gets promoted to the NFL.

"I get that the kid is disappointed, but what else was the RB coach supposed to do? Tell an uncommitted high school kid that he was interviewing elsewhere? Not recruit very hard because he might not be there this season? A good ethical coach should work his ass off for his employer up until the day he's not working there anymore. And yes, that's going to mean that players and recruits--maybe even other coaches--are going to end up surprised and maybe even feel betrayed. But that's part of the nature of coaching careers. I don't see the alternative. I guess in this case, Meyer could have gotten on the horn to each and every RB recruit and emphasized how wanted they are and his intention to get a fantastic replacement in the new opening. Maybe he didn't do that soon enough (or at all)." http://www.reddit.com/r/CFB/comments/2v0bjg/webers_coach_wilcher_blasts…

That was the OP making that comment, not the article and unfortunately, no, we don't have editors on forum posts. :(

EDIT: My bad. Looks like that was in the aritcle and they have since fixed it. I give all the credit to you. They obviously read your comment.
