Crummy Week Posbang

Title says it all.  MRW when I think about how un-fun yesterday was but realize we can bang this morning:

Let's console each other with some week end internet relations.

When I first started working in health insurance benefits 10 years ago, deductibles were rare. When the economy tanked, all of a sudden, every company was adding a deductible to its plan. Now it's rare to see a group that doesnt have a deductible.

We just talked about the Federal Govt's Michigan employee benefits. They have no deductible and still have low copays. A lot of the unions still have low out of pocket costs. That includes the municipalities with the exception of the City of Detroit.

Depending on his plan, his deductible most likely doesn't apply pharmacy services. Hopefully he has a low out of pocket maximum.

This is not an ACA phenomenon. As costs for care continue to rise, employer-sponsored plans have been consulted by their benefits administrators and providers to shift more of the cost to their employees. It’s not politics, it’s economics driven by soaring healthcare costs.

Partly.

It's also because the $7 billion federal subsidy for insurance for low-income people was cancelled unilaterally by the president and because the "tax cut" eliminated the individual mandate. Insurers simply spread those costs out across people with insurance.

My premiums for a family of four have gone from $950/month in December 2016 to $2000/month in January 2018. Sure doesn't feel like anything remotely close to a move toward more greatness.

I had a minor freakout the other day when I got a call from a collections agency.  Apparently the almost $17,000 in health insurance premiums, the $6,100 in HSA contributions, and whatever my dental premiums are is not enough for the medical industrial complex.  They need another $100/month from me.  What have I gotten out of the whole deal:  braces for one kid (which has sucked up almost the entire HSA balance), three urgent care visits (Not ER), and that's about all I can identify.

I've been looking at cabins. Found a 6 bedroom that would be around $300/person for the whole weekend and has 3 decks and a hot tub. Trying to avoid hot tub though. I lost my deposit renting one for my best friend's bachelor party. It's hard to know for sure that people who come aren't gonna behave like children. In short, I need to meet with some folks ahead of time.

This summer to spend about two weeks. Got a house lined up on a lake for most of the time, then planning to bounce around a few towns and check out all the sites. Can't wait to get there.

Making the drive from Denver any good suggestions would be appreciated, and what the hell bang me because it's Friday.

Getting estimates in the $10000 range. Heat went out in the house I’m selling in Ohio. All of the boiler pipes froze and burst during the cold snap in December. I live in Georgia so logistics has been a nightmare. Need some positive vibes.
