Crawford returning kickoffs

Submitted by Wolverine Devotee on

Kind of surprised this hasn't been a thread yet but, uh, Crawford on kickoff returns is............tall?

He's had some really poor decisions back there taking the ball out imo.

What should be done about this position? I say just give it to DPJ. He already has a punt return TD.

I think Ambry has been the kickoff guy since second half of Purdue game and announcers have had it wrong. We have seen a couple ill-advised returns with a kid not playing, that’s out there trying to make a big play.

Put hidgon back there to return kickoffs.a guy with ,speed, power and vision.seem like the guys back there run up and stop before making cut.need a guy that runs without stopping.this is issac and evens problem to,they run up to line of scrimmage and studder step.

Nah. He isn't as fast as Thomas and DPJ, especially straight line speed. You want guys that not only are blazing fast but ones that can hit the seam as quickly as possible. There's a reason you don't usually see RBs in that role as much.

Woodson was never a great return guy. OSU punt return was iconic, but his overall punt return numbers were very pedestrian. And he was never a kickoff return guy -- 4 returns in Michigan career for 20yd avg. If he's back there, I'd want him taking a knee.

Ok so there’s some confusion. Against Michigan State it wasn’t Crawford returning the kickoffs it was Thomas the defensive back they both wear # 1. But ya they both stink at kick returns

I know announcers have butchered it, but Ambry has been returning kicks as of late. Their appearance (outside of the uniform) is pretty different so if you just look a little, you can tell the difference.

I believe in every situation of hesitation, it’s been Ambry, at least from memory.

I really thought mcdoom would've done something with special teams. But ya I don't think Crawford is that good. Hudson I heard was doing a little in camp. Should look into someone else. Give them a shot

Maybe they want DPJ to strictly focus on catching punts during special teams skills periods. Didn't Lloyd Darr say something about it being the most difficult skill in football?, And let one of the other returners deal with KOR. Especially since with this defense, you would expect to more punts and have very few kickoffs to return in a game.

It's arrogant for a poster to think he's considered DPJ for the KR spot before Harbaugh. Clearly there are *reasons* it isn't him. If a poster cares to argue that those are bad reasons, the less passive aggressive approach is, first, to persuasively argue against Harbaugh's and/or Michigan's general ST (kickoff) coaching and, if that is accomplished, *then* argue why that poster's KR choice is so dang good.

now. Chesson, Peppers, Darboh.

Whats left is a comparatively slow and unexplosive team.

You need your fastest and most sure-handed players returning kicks.

I would think this is Chris Evans and DPJ.

These are really the only two players with game demonstrated take-it-to-the-house explosiveness, cuts and separation speed.

But I am no coach and Im not privy to the goings on in practice. Im operating off the assumption that Crawford has probably already returned 12 kickoffs for TDs in practice.

Got to trust the coaches folks.
