Still no Tate!!!! AARGHDSLFKJSDVLKJ! RABBLE! SPECULATION!

  • Gardner looks good, making some pretty good throws in there.
  • That's why we don't have Maize jerseys.
  • The team looks a lot more excited this year. So much energy, especially in 94 degree heat.

Almost there!

I hear he is now wearing a winged, but goldenrod and teal, instead of maize and blue,  helmet to indicate he's almost, but not quite, in playing shape.

But seriously, yeah, please god never ever wear Maize jerseys outside of practice.  Ever.

All I have to say is that if Tate comes out against UCONN as the starter looking like a stud and it turns out RR planted him in these shots intentionally, he deserves at least a 3 year extension. Every shot we've seen from Tate so far just looks like he's so demoralized that it's almost hard to believe. Maybe I'm just a tin foil hat guy, but it would be pretty sweet if all of this was choreographed.

He *had* a regular winged helmet. We have no official reason why his helmet does not currently have wings, but it's been confirmed that it doesn't by both BTN and, by responding to BTN's question about it, someone associated with the team. BTN was told not to read into it, but they never told that to us!

On the day 22 video in about the first 20 seconds you see Tate taking snaps and his helmet clearly has wings. Now if from day 22 to day 19 he lost them then i guess he doesn't have them. But I remember everyone reporting this before day 22 so one would assume that he either got them back or always had them.

Video editing and you:

The day 22 video was likely comprised of footage from actual day 23 and/or 24.  Just as this day 19 video is comprised of footage from day 20.

The BTN pictures surfaced on day 22, at day 22's practice.  Good chance something happened on day 23 that resulted in Tate losing his wings for day 22 and beyond.

Red, if consistent with spring/prior seasons, means no contact.  perhaps still "banged up" as reported when BTN was there.  the maize i assume is the limited contact/don't put our QB's tits up in practice.

would diefy RR if this was all gamesmanship.  see Tate & Denard run out for the first snap with only 100 of the 114,000 people in the stadium who have any idea what is about to happen.

Yeah if those are maize jerseys, holy hell they look like Ferris State gold.  Really strange not seeing Tate much -- very interesting.  Also -- does Beckman announce every practice?  I always have noticed announcing but never thought it was Beckman until this video.

The Maize jerseys are essentially red jerseys? No contact?

Also, so many people looked good. Denard did put one into the dirt that looked a little ugly, but at least it was at the receiver and not at the DB.

Ah, fall. That magical time of year when a young man's fancy turns to football.

I wonder how much of the "lack of Tate" that we've seen is maybe a bit of gamesmanship on RR's part for the opener with UConn. Tate is obviously at practice and he is certainly getting snaps. Regardless of how Denard may have improved over the summer, at this point Tate is the only QB that has proven he can win in games actually played. That is not to say that on September 4th that Denard doesn't notch his first starting victory, but for now, it is still Tate.

RR has been doing a much better job of not letting people see what is really going on. We have a lot of anecdotal stories from players, etc, but without people in there actually watching the reps, no one really knows for sure. I like the media being blocked. It just increases the hype for 20 days from now.

I wouldn't be surprised if RR was purposely avoiding footage of Tate. I'm sure it's also not a coincidence that all we see are very zoomed in footage of people moving very quickly. Tough to follow what's actually going on, which sucks for speculation, but is pretty good for keeping pertinent information from prying eyes.

Was it ever confirmed what exactly "banged up" meant when he was sitting some things out last Friday?

I too think it is possible that RR is very aware of what makes these highlight clips.  We know Tate is a good passer and with a solid o-line and a year stronger, likely has improved his downfield passing...and correct me if I am wrong, but uconn's secondary is pretty awful, yes? If healthy, I would think he is getting the requisite look from the coaches and snaps to have a chance to win the first snap on opening day.

This concept of operation deception is plausible. Seed planted by Troy at Big Ten Media days. Blue helemets. Only a few pics and video shots - some showing him "gassed".

Meanwhile nothing new on the wall of shame ... (There is a nice "not fumble the ball" motivational picture .)

has taught all of you RAWK DA MAYYZZE freaks a good and painful lesson.  Those jerseys are hideous practice field tools, and nothing more.  NEVER in the stadium.  Never in the stadium.

Of course the jerseys looked terrible.  That practice took place during the during the day, and   Maize jerseys are designed for night games.

I would think you of all people would know the value of coordinating your apparel to the time of day.

Tate is a little banged up to start camp? There were some grumblings about him not being 100% a couple weeks ago... If both Tate and Denard aren't fully ready for the opener, it will mean DG doesn't get to redshirt. I was hoping that he would be able to learn and study this whole year to get a better grasp of the offense.

Blazefire

Even if Tate were hurt and couldn't go, it doesn't burn your redshirt to stand on the sidelines READY to play. As long as Robinson didn't get hurt, you wouldn't have to play Gardner at all. If there was garbage time with a big win or, heaven forbid, a big loss, you could put Kennedy in to hand it off and soak up the clock to protect Robinson.

Love the enthusiasm in the "last play of the game"  Gardner looked like V Young running it in against USC. Everyone looks really amped up, you'd swear we were coming off a undefeated season!!! The pieces of the puzzle are here now it's time to put them together and win.
