Multiple reports of couch burnings, rowdy activity in E.L.

10:20 p.m. Police scanner traffic and eyewitness reports indicate that there are multiple reports of fires, fireworks and arrests in East Lansing.

Staff reports indicate that there are fires in the the Cedar Village neighborhood, Harrison Road and Elm and Milford streets. Fireworks were reported near Abbot Road.

Police officials reported that “there’s not a lot going on right now.”

"10:30 p.m. Residents are gathering on Elm Street. Mechanical engineering senior John Lusczakoski said the East Lansing Fire Department is watering down couches on the street to prevent residents from burning them.

“I saw a lot of broken alcohol bottles,” he said. “They were watering down couches so we could not burn them.”"

Let em' burn. Those big macs finally caught up with our pals in EL. Out hustled, out rebounded and out coached. I know when I get frustrated the first thought I have is burn a couch as well.

because so little has been happening with our football recruiting i might as well check someone elses out...and to see the meltdown. But the first two threads that i saw were actually pretty sane. one had pics of a scantily clad model (they have their own kate upton..?) Weird, the other had nothing but respectful things to say about L'ville. However, the rest of the threads made me wonder if i would ever want to be part of a fanbase like that.

It made me glad to be a fan of the best university in the world, we may have a couple unruly people but nothing nearly close to as bad as sparty or osu for that matter. Thanks for keeping it classy, for the most part. It's devoted fans like you that make me proud to say that i bleed maize and blue.

ED: that last sentence rhymed. glory.

Some of those comments are priceless.  A spartan says something to the effect of "this is why U of M things we are idiots" and a very well educated and witty Michigan man responds with "No, your pathetic ranking in nearly every concentration is why we look down on you. This is simply icing on the cake. "  Awesome.

I was browsing the RCMB the other day and saw a poster make an Austin Hatch joke (LSAClassOf2000 knows what I'm talking about). They deserve everything they get. October 20th can't get here soon enough.

Have fun in Latvia, Day Day!

Sparty goes down in flames! And right after Valenti spewed garbage for a week straight after Michigan lost. Now his argument will be something based off how they made it further. Congrats on beating nobody.

I don't even know how anybody can listen to 97.1 with the people they rollout on their radio programs.Ill listen now just to hear Mike Valenti piss and moan about how the refs screwed them and how great Coach Santonio is.

Its gotten really really old. You would think that after many years of being who they are that they would have perfected the art of how to celebrate a loss, but no, its still couch burning. I would submit that there is more creativeness on this one post of M Go Blog than there is in the entirety of East Lansing.

Burn couches when they lose, burn couches when they win, burn couches at end of school year. Classic! Sparty wonders why they are who they are???

In light of keeping with tradition and letting the players blow off some steam, Coach Izzo canceled the flight back to East Lansing, and instead, had the AD rent a RV that contained a number of couches in it.  "I figured, what the hell, the students are upset and burning things back home....we might as well be a part of that tradition and join in the festivities", commented Izzo, when asked by reporters for the sudden change in travel plans.

Unfortunately, that plan went awry just outside of Albuquerque when the flames of the last remaining couch got out of control and ignited the RV. The coaches and players escaped harm, but Sparty, their team mascot, had the simulated horse hair plume on his helmet go up in flames.

Albuquerque residents were warned not to venture outside of the city where the RV and couches were located.....
