so far Hoke is 100% on commits who visit. (mcclure has not declared somewhere yet)
January 26th, 2011 at 10:27 PM ^
We need a DT in this class and this guy fits the bill. He may not be as tall as I would hope for in a 4* DT but he has quickness and intensity. Plus he has Countess chirping in his ear. Reel him in!
January 27th, 2011 at 1:59 AM ^
I was just thinking the other day, this class would be complete if we can somehow find a DT. Hoke getting him on campus is huge! I like our chances here.
January 26th, 2011 at 1:47 PM ^
Can we send Mattison down to visit Jadeveon Clowney? Given his track record, I see no reason why we couldn't land him as well...
/s, but only kinda...
Considering it was rumoured that Cooper had dropped us outright, to have him visit right before NSD is huge...
January 26th, 2011 at 1:55 PM ^
Can't wait for next year's class. If Hoke and Mattison are doing this much work, this late, and still getting commits within days, it should be a great class next year. Just hope they keep it up and we get back to the old classes of 4 stars with a 5 star here and there (I feel like a huge douche for saying that, but come on, who doesn't get happy for a 5 star? Ugh, I feel like a douche for talking about recruiting stars period).
Hopefully the coaching turns out to be as good as the recruiting has been so far.

but only because yo avatar is so hot. you need to spank her - NO! NO! um-um I mean THANK her. Yes, yes. That's right. I would definitely thank her if I were you. and then maybe . . . .
January 26th, 2011 at 1:55 PM ^
getting this kid on campus is almost as huge as the kid himself. TREMENDOUS!

If we close with Cooper and Fisher I am going to do a back flip that does not even closely resemble Braylon's back flip. Ok, it will probably be more of a really bad ass summersault.
January 26th, 2011 at 2:11 PM ^
Fisher, Bryant, and Willingham make this class. Cooper would be worth the broken bones a backflip would entail
January 26th, 2011 at 2:16 PM ^
January 26th, 2011 at 2:20 PM ^
was not committed
January 26th, 2011 at 2:11 PM ^
I'm afraid Fisher is going the Elphaba route
January 26th, 2011 at 2:18 PM ^
He decommitted at the apex of "holy shit we're sinking and they just hired some guy named Hoke" mania. Several bloggers on this site decommitted at the same time
Things have shaped up nicely since then: commits have come back, Hoke hype has been tremendous Jim, Mattison hire was a home run, Denard is staying, etc.
Fisher was at so many games this year, was a lifelong fan. Zettel I get b/c he hated that 3-3-5 (or his coach did), and he got his mind set on PSU before Mattison had a chance at him. But I think Fisher backed off b/c he wasn't sure what the hell was going on here. Even though it's only been a few weeks, the time should have helped with that. All signs point up

you know, ray drew supposedly is gonna be throwing everyone a major major curve on signing day. anyone hear this? supposedly he removed his top 3, and is supposed to be a major surprise.
January 26th, 2011 at 2:07 PM ^
Hasn't visited us has he? Not that it's been an issue for Mattison. ie. Poole.
January 26th, 2011 at 2:08 PM ^
That would be tremendous.
January 26th, 2011 at 2:10 PM ^
He isn't coming...
January 26th, 2011 at 2:16 PM ^
hmmm.... lets see. you seem to be so certain.
well, drew has michigan as MEDIUM INTEREST with an offer.
drew surely has seen mattison as our new DC (and prob DE) coach.
drew has stated that on signing day he is gonna throw everyone a major curve, and itll be a surprise, and he also said he removed his top 3.
so....highlander.... it isn't certain, is it?
January 26th, 2011 at 2:48 PM ^
No, scout or rivals or whoever has Michigan as medium interest.
January 26th, 2011 at 3:31 PM ^
Let me rephrase:
He is not coming.
January 27th, 2011 at 1:53 PM ^
Rivals and Scout aren't always quick to update that stuff. Ray Drew is not coming to Michigan.
Cooper, on the other hand, has a good chance to go blue, so lets be happy that we have a good chance at gaining a great player at a position of need.
January 26th, 2011 at 2:16 PM ^
This was a status update Ray put on his Facebook page.
"There will be a huge surprise on Friday........no auburn, no Georgia, no lsu......time to shock the world baby"
Also, Chip Towers from the Atlanta Journal Constitution put this on twitter earlier today.
"5-star DE Ray Drew eliminates Clemson from his finalists. Visited there this past weekend."
However I think its FSU he will choose
January 26th, 2011 at 2:18 PM ^
"shock the world" thats what glen rice kept saying when i was a freshman. hopefully its a sign. :)
January 26th, 2011 at 2:46 PM ^
Only in my world it was Juwan Howard and I was a senior.
January 26th, 2011 at 2:48 PM ^
also in my world, as a 5th year senior that is.
January 26th, 2011 at 2:22 PM ^
He's had fun with the entire recruiting process keeping everyone on their toes. I could see him saying he's eliminated all those schools only to pick one on Friday. Word is even as late as last weekend he was recruiting players to come with him to Georgia (even while he was on a visit to Clemson).
January 26th, 2011 at 2:26 PM ^
...that. Drew is messing with all of the Facebook stalkers that have been hounding him. See this for the skinny.
January 26th, 2011 at 2:45 PM ^
I'm glad those types of people are out there, though. I can point them out to my wife and honestly say, "Look, honey! There are people out there with obsessions way worse than mine!"
January 26th, 2011 at 2:39 PM ^
I read last night(sorry forgot where) that he was gonna pick Stanford, which would definitely be out of left field if true.
January 26th, 2011 at 3:17 PM ^
Is there any logical reason to believe he'd come here if he hasn't had an official visit? I wouldn't think so, but who the heck knows? However, If he DOES sign with us, I'll personally go down to Banfields in Ann Arbor for the recruiting party and buy a round of drinks for everyone!
January 26th, 2011 at 2:08 PM ^
anyone have a refersher course on this guy?
January 26th, 2011 at 2:37 PM ^
http://rivals.yahoo.com/michigan/football/recruiting/player-Darian-Cooper-105253
He is a very good DT, and would be a great get for the coaching staff. He definantly fills a need because there are no true DT in this class, though some project Chris Rock as a DT.
January 26th, 2011 at 2:15 PM ^
That's exactly what I wanted to see today. Awesome for the new staff to pick up a kid that was drifting away. Go Blue Cooper.
January 26th, 2011 at 2:19 PM ^
im with you in hoping, but its just a visit until he declares for us. so lets not count our chickens before they hatch!
January 26th, 2011 at 2:23 PM ^
Wow, sure seems like if he gets in front of a kid he has their attention quick. This is huge, I think our chances just increased 70% by getting him on campus. He's obviously interested in UM & the pitch GMat thru at him, get him on campus & reel him in!
Finish Strong....GO BLUE
January 26th, 2011 at 2:24 PM ^
I hope the coaches and players have a great time hangin' with Mr. Cooper.
January 26th, 2011 at 2:47 PM ^
man I really loved that show.. wish it was still on
January 26th, 2011 at 2:28 PM ^
I am very impressed with the recruiting effort by Hoke, Mattison, and the staff. Huzzah!
January 26th, 2011 at 2:47 PM ^
(Strolling down UM's campus) "So Mr. And Mrs. Cooper, have you heard what happened to all those Iowa players the other day?"
January 26th, 2011 at 8:38 PM ^
Man we finally get the big man on campus. We will see what happens.

If Mattison and Hoke pull this off it will be amazing, especially given the early low expectations from many (including myself) who read this blog.
January 27th, 2011 at 2:47 AM ^
Everyone from the coaches, down to the recruits, and teammates keep it going strong. Darian Cooper would be a huge get. Especially how well BH and Greg can coach the dline. Top 25 class we pick this kid up. Can't wait for a full season of this insane recruiting skills unleashed!
January 27th, 2011 at 8:13 AM ^
its ok every body on this board has a secret obsession about stars that they won't tell anybody. I'm guilty. I mean come on rivals scouts and espn get about a million hits a day just from mgobloggers alone. We would all like to think stars would mean something and sometimes they do. sometimes they don't.
