Cook for Regent in 2014?
Brian has already said he would run for Regent in 2016.
With his approval, could we start a 2014 Write in campaign in 2014?
I think it may accomplish two things: a large write in vote total may get the attention of Brian's preferred party, also it might scare the current regents into acting on Brandon if they had not done so already.
However, we must be careful. Since as soon as he spends or receives money, he is required to fill out lots of paperwork.
Edit; The chances of winning an write in election is 0%. The winning vote totals in the last non-presidential election cycle for the regents was 1.3 million. The idea is to get about 20K write in votes so the current board might take notice.

I could see Brian being a decent regent someday if he lost the hyper-reactive and combative tendencies, but there is no chance he ever gets elected, and we need him more than they do.

his journalistic integrity into question. It may already be too late but if he seriously pursues that path, it would not be remiss at all to assume that the journalistic integrity of the blog would suffer.

... I don't know Brian at all, so my opinion is strictly from his writing on this Blog and various appearances on radio shows. With that, here is my thinking:
1) I know more about him and his approach than any other regent. This blog is a great window into Brian and serves as the best indicator of his skills and approach.
2) After reading the regent bios, I am 100% confident Brian has just as impressive a background. He has a degree from Michigan, he is a successful entrepreneur who was a leader in disrupting an entrenched industry, he followed his passion to become successful, etc... Just because he's not a lawyer, politician, business person, or doctor doesn't mean his path and success in that path is not impressive.
3) He has an analytical, fact driven approach to problem solving. Perhaps the best case for this is his approach to deblousing the Freep during Stretchgate.
4) He brings a different perspective, which is important.
reasons I wouldn't (based on my limited impression):
1) He can get a little emotional at times, which could be off-putting to other regents and impact ability to work on a team.
2) Similarly, can he compromise?

People saying that he doesn't have the same level of excellence when it comes to his education versus those on the board currently are cracking me up. The man has a masters in engineering from the University of Michigan.
I know that I'm more impressed with the people I know that have advanced degress in hard sciences versus those with their J.D.
And for everyone lauding the regents with all of the fancy awards and such, keep in mind that lawyers and doctors love nothing more than celebrating each other. They make actors look positively demure by comparison.

Two of them went to IU law, one went to Oklahoma, and the other I know rather well went to Loyola Chicago. They are all four very intelligent people, but compared to my friends who are engineers and chemists they aren't nearly as well-rounded.
That being said, I would rather see people with experience in education sitting on the Board of Regents than yet another doctor or lawyer. As it is comprised now, you have a group of people who all share a rather limited world view. Shouldn't the Board be more diverse?

and read his articulate opinions. I don't always agree, but there's more than enough evidence here that he has the ability and determination to be a great Regent. It's that simple. Trust what you see before you instead of placing too much faith in advanced degrees.
