Consensus bowl projections say Rose Bowl

Submitted by DISCUSS Man on

Certainly the first time i've seen anything like this where all 3 outlets that do these things every week are agreeing.

Michigan vs Stanford in the Rose Bowl.

Sorry guys, but while the Rose Bowl is a fantastic achievement, it means that we've lost another game. If we handily beat msu - as the comment incurring so much vitriol suggests as a base premise -  I don't even see how we get to it:

If we win the East and play in the B1G championship, and then win that, there's NO WAY we're out of the playoff - RIGHT?! The Rose would be a bitter pill indeed - like Urban Cryer in '06!

If we win the East but somehow don't win the title game, then West champ goes to the Rose - RIGHT?! Don't think there's any Rose any option here.

If we don't even make the B1G title game - how do we make the Rose? Can the Rose take us over a West champ that has lost the B1G title game (presumably to osu, who goes to the playoff)? That's the only scenario where going to the Rose WOULDN'T be a letdown. This would be equivilent to going to the Sugar in '11 ;)

Love to hear alternative scenarios, not knee jerk "Don't dis the Rose, that was Bo's goal" comments

Well that's scenario #3 detailed above. In that scenario - and only in that scenario honestly -  the Rose would be the ideal and best possible outcome.

If we keep winning, not making the playoff becomes a disappointment (2006 were you giddy about Cryer whining us out of an osu rematch and into the Rose?)

I wasn't! Hated him ever since, JH beating him - and it will come and it will be frequent, even if it's not this year - will be so sweet.

We were 5 and fucking 7 last year people!!!

WE DID NOT GO TO A BOWL!!!

Stop with the arrogance.

10-2 with a loss to OSU (and a win over MSU) and a Rose Bowl is not a disappointment. You would've gladly taken that in August.

Jeez I can't stand what we're becoming...it's just like it was during the Carr years...arrogant and entitled.

NO. It's hard to be elite and we need to keep progressing and improving each week.

You can make this comment if we go undefeated for the rest of the season...yes, it would be disappointing to lose the B1G Championship game and go to the Rose Bowl.

But now? C'mon.

And since when does beating MSU mean you're world beaters? They look like shit right now. So a win over MSU and we're in the playoffs...that's what this poster is saying.

My god.

faithful. I'm a guy down here in Florida (before that VA) who is a Michigan fan. Be thankful these Michigan faithful are all over the country and not some pathetic mostly regional fan base such as Clemson or even Alabama or LSU.

Teenager was the important descriptor.  I love all who love Michigan, Gil most certainly included.  I am just saying age is revelant to the comment; perspective matters.

This is especially true as we bear towards potentially historic waters.  Putting perspective on tradition and the expectations of this program is old guy stuff.

I for one am just enjoying the ride with no expectation at all.

We were not "arrogant and entitled" in the Carr years. We are the winningest program in history. Outside of 1997 and 2006 we were never in contention for national titles (and even that year that proved to be not so much after OSU torched our defense). We were essentially Georgia for the other 11 years losing games we shouldn't have every year. I'm not expecting we have 1 loss every year or go undefeated every year, but I don't think it's unreasonable to expect less than two or three losses a season every once and a while given our resources...and that only happened once (1997). That being said, a Rose Bowl this year would be a fantastic turnaround.

OK I detailed a number of scenarios of how we might reach the Rose, which actually seems like an unlikely destination for the reasons mentioned. I'm only replying here to say one of those scenarios is NOT likely going to the B1G title game and losing it - how does Michigan get into the Rose over the team that defeated it for the B1G title?

I know you're funnin' about corn, but, to defend my brother from the west in Nebraska, no one eats the corn we grow in our lush, black soil that billions of people would kill for unless it's the sweet corn everyone grows in gardens.  Our crop is used for ethanol and livestock feed.

about that.

While The Rose Bowl still has enough status and mystique that I couldn't possibly feel disappointed with it, I somewhat understand your post, given that Michigan appears to be clearly in control of their own destiny.  The CFB Playoff system has clearly changed the post-season.  The Rose Bowl is still the greatest bowl of them all (but now only in the years it hosts the NC game.).

You for this but I kinda agree with you. Now that we are midway through the regular season, we can properly adjust goals and with this team, with what we have seen, can make a strong case to be in the playoff this season. Still though, we just need to enjoy the ride. This season has been fun thus far, especially with the way things have been the last eight seasons (yes, I am including Lloyd's last season).

Would be weird if Northwestern wins the West and we rematch them, then Utah wins out and we rematch them. I think Stanford is more likely, but the Pac12 is pretty open this year.

I'd take the Rose Bowl in a heart beat!

I'd also take any of the New Year's Day games.

I'm just enjoying Michigan football again, and I'm loving it, even though I have pretty significant and grave concerns about the offense.

The SF Bay Area whatever-the-fuck bowl we were slated for to begin the year. Stay hungry, move forward with humble hearts, and stomp sparty! It will make living in Lansing tolerable for a year at least

My wife and I agreed that we're going  to the bowl game this year and have been thinking that "hey, the Citrus Bowl, not bad" would be great for our first year under Harbaugh.  I just told my wife about the Rose Bowl projections and she is almost in tears (happy tears).  There are a great many fans expecting way too much now and we need to get our heads out of our asses.  We're half way through what looks like our best football season in many years (discount the 11-2 Hoke with RR's players season).  I believe that this season is better than out 11-2 season because of the play on the field and not just the box scores and record.  There is pride, intensity, hype, grinding, smart play, great coaching and all of the elements for a great trip away to a bowl game......wherever it is!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
