Kudos to New England and this is a bit of a threadjack, but how is a New England defensive player NOT the MVP of this game? Edelman was clearly the best offensive player in the football game, hands down. But New England just stuffed Sean McVay and his offense to 3 points--the first time that's been done since Landry beat up on Shula 24-3 in Super Bowl VI (in a stadium that no longer exists). I mean really? We can't acknowledge the great defense (really by both teams) in this game by awarding the MVP to a defensive player?

They keep saying the whole country hates the Pats..but really it's the country except Pats fans and (most) Michigan fans. I am not a Pats fan but do get a sense of satisfaction out of them winning.  Did so in 2002 and still do so today. If the Lions are your team you basically feel like a neutral observer come playoff time anyway.

I admit fully that the primary reason I root for the Pats is Tom Brady.

However, I really do like a lot of the other guys on this team, too. Gronk is just fun to watch, and Edelman, well -- how can a dude be SO CLUTCH ALL THE TIME?

When Brady finally hangs up the cleats, I may abandon my Pats' fandom, though. For now? I'll enjoy the greatest of all time doing his thing.

Brady is the GOAT.  Great day to be a Wolverine!

I’m in Massachusetts and all I can hear are car horns, fireworks, and people screaming in the streets.

You can not like them but projecting a revisionist history of the accomplishments they’ve made is foolish.  They are good at what they do without having much hyped players so certain sections of people believe there has to be some diobolical reason they win.  It’s an old played out narrative.  Cue the bu but they taped practices noise..in 1...2...

Congrats to the Pats, but I can’t help wishing the Saints had been in the game.  The Pats D was good, but the Rams offense just didn’t show up at all.

In a way you could almost see last night's results coming. Goff has really been tapering off since about midway through the regular season, and the Patriots are experts at finding ways to completely take away whatever your best weapon is. So Goff didn't have as much to work with as me might've otherwise thought.

Pats D just looked like they were able to perfectly disguise a lot of what their defense was trying to do, and by the time Goff knew what was going to happen, it was already too late.

I'm sure inexperience played a part as well. I think the Saints-Pats would've been a far better game.

Don't write Wentz off quite yet.  He put up very good numbers this year when he wasn't hurt.  He had one horrible game against New Orleans but never threw more than 1 pick in any other game and threw for multiple TD's in 8 out of 11 starts.  He threw for 250+ in 7 of 11 starts and topped 300 5 times.

His biggest issue so far seems to be his injuries.  He can't be a great QB if he is only playing partial seasons.  But when he has played he has been plenty good.  Sure, Foles came in a did a great job after he was hurt, but that doesn't reflect badly on Wentz IMO.  Foles is obviously very good as well and deserves to be starting somewhere next season.

The defense played by both teams was fantastic. And as a defensive guy I enjoyed the chess match between the two oldest (but clearly best) coaches out there in Belichick and Phillips. But even bad offenses find a way to score more than 3 points in a game, particularly in this day and age with the rules the way they are.

The commenter is correct. The Rams offense didn't show up. And while Goff has issues, Sean McVay got completely and utterly exposed last night in the biggest game of his career. I didn't see them attempt anything particularly different. He just assumed he could roll into this game, do very little adjusting and hit everything they typically hit against a Belichick-coached team. Even worse, he panicked when the offense got stuffed and abandoned a lot of his ground game despite it being a 1 score game for virtually the entire game. His offense struggled at points later in the year including the NFC title game and for him not to have some type of backup plan if the game turns into the Bears Part II is just flat out embarrassing.

No man has been luckier.

The "Tuck Rule"-it was a fumble.

This year's Offensive line and this year's defense

And no man has been "unluckier"

New York Giants receiver catches a pass with his helmet after Eli Manning breaks about 68 tackles to heave it downfield with his eyes closed

A second improbable Eli Manning heave that Mario Manningham catches

Nick Foles decides to finally play like an NFL quarterback who is unbelievably great after being less than mediocre throughout his career

Bill Belichick suspends Butler last year and the Patriots give up 900 third and long pass plays in the Super Bowl

The Patriots, other than Randy Moss for one year, have NEVER given Brady capable downfield receivers that can open up the whole field for him

The idiots who call him a cheater for the deflated football thing just don't get it, and they hang their hats on that as if that defines Brady.

He is defined by one thing: WINNING

I love this nonsense - that Brady has NEVER had any good receivers. It's bullshit.  Edelman, Hogan, Gronk are legitimately good to great players. People who say this like to point out Randy Moss but conveniently leave out Wes Welker as if he was trash. Welker is probably going to the Hall of Fame.  Shit, even Troy Brown was pretty good, he was a highly underrated player. Deion Branch and and Amendola weren't bad either.

It's like the Yankees fans in the late 90s and early 2000s who were like 'they don't have any superstars'. Yeah, if you don't include Derek Jeter, Mariano Rivera, Bernie Williams, Paul O'Neill, and Roger Clemens.

Also - the deflate thing wasn't the only allegation of cheating against the Pats. They had a huge scandal in which they were accused of taping other teams' closed practices, including a Rams' pre-Super Bowl practice in 2002. If I recall correctly, they were never punished by the league for this (or if they were it was minimal).

Brady deserves a lot of credit but this dynasty will always be a little tarnished because of all that shit. If you win a lot but are also credibly accused of cheating, well, that's going to sow a lot of doubt in people's minds.

Wes Welker was mediocre both before Brady and the minute he left Brady.  His best season without Brady is 778 yards with Denver in 2013.  He routinely put up 1200+ with Brady throwing to him.  Don't get me wrong, he is very good.  But he was "great" because of the man throwing him the ball.

Edelman is very good.  He's is a "great" player.  He's had 2 1000 yard season in his career.

Gronk is actually great, but he's always hurt.

Certain receivers flourish under Brady that aren't super valuable elsewhere.  They are guys that can get in-sync with Brady and know how to read defenses and consistently get open for a split-second.  Brady finds them over and over and over again when other QB's don't.  That's where Welker and Edelman thrive with Brady.  Brady always manages to laser the ball into them at the exact moment they break open.  So they don't have to blow their men away and be consistently wide open to make big plays.  Brady hits them in-stride for big YAC as well.

As foretold in the Good Book:

I saw it attack the ram furiously, striking the ram and shattering its two horns. The ram was powerless to stand against it; the goat knocked it to the ground and trampled on it, and none could rescue the ram from its power.

Bill Belichick receives a lot of credit...but not as much as is truly deserved. Year after year after year he picks from the bottom of the draft and from the "scrap pile" of other teams discards-then goes out and wins. In a word-okay two words...SIMPLY INCREDIBLE!!!!!!!

And once again, in the post game interviews, Bill declared that it was all the players doing. Really!!!????!!!! Isn't it remarkable how the good coaches always get the good players and the bad coaches never do!!!! How does that work???
