Confessions of a Michigan Football Fan
11 Warriors has an interesting piece on their site where they "invite you (their readers) to spill your sins, real or perceived, against Ohio State athletics." It makes for a fun/entertaining read and I thought we Michigan fans probably have plenty of interesting thoughts to spill as well.
So I guess I'll start with my 3 confessions:
-I love Ann Arbor to death, but I don't think it's the best college town in the Big Ten. I think that privilege goes to Madison.
-I'm a Hoke fan, and I love Mattison and think Nussmeier was a great pick up, but State has the best all-around football staff/coaches in the Big Ten. Hands down.
-Here's my big one... Had we played Nebraska in a BCS Championship-like game back in '97, I think they would've won.
Bonus: I LOVE the movie "Rudy" and have no real negative feelings toward Notre Dame at all.

...UCLA and threw an interception when we were destroying UCLA. I apologize Mr. Brady.
Multiple Super Bowl rings and married to Gisele Bundchen, you can curse me any day.
I'm married to a buckeye.
I enjoy the back and forth with my in-breds (in-laws).
I enjoy some of their traditions. Ie script ohio
I still pine for Harbaugh.
I hate it when non-michigan alums use academic standards in an argument.
I hate how hoke comes off smug sometimes with his pathetic road record. Especially the whole played out ohio thing.
I also admire ohio state for going out and making a big time hire.
I feel better now yet dirty... Anyone else?
...partially because Michigan created the script Ohio.
“Ted Boehm, OSU marching band member in 1935 and 1936, and considered an “authority” on Script Ohio, wrote that indeed, Michigan had performed the first Ohio in script.”

all season because my best friend predicted he'd blow up when he first committed and now every time LeVert does anything good my friend has this punchabley smug face.
In addition to me being a dick about Gardner until I realized how bad our offense really was, I dogged LeVert. But that one week we had in between the Iowa and Wisconsin beatdowns in hoops, I had an epiphany about Caris, where I realized he was a baller of the highest order.
The "Script Ohio" pregame tradition is fantastic.
I turned off the 2003 Minnesota game before the comeback. I was pissed and tired on a Friday night.
John Navarre is my favorite Michigan athlete ever.
I love the team, but I wouldn't mind if I never heard anything about the Fab Five for the foreseeable future.
I think Bob Ufer is overrated. A die hard Michigan man, but not a good announcer.
The Michigan Alum arrogance is very offputting.
There is so much wrong with this...I don't know where to start.
I think you forgot confession number 5, that you love trolling Mgo Blog. Just look at what you did here. This whole thread feels like a sad AA meeting.
Self-loathing is therapeutic.
Of advice to all parents of teenage "cutters"
I think Kate Upton is kinda fugly if you look past her two "assets".
I think Ace is the best writer on MGoBlog, better than Brian, and it isn't even close.
I am creeped out by Brandon Brown's methods of interaction with recruits and miss TomVH dearly.
I think Teryn Savage still looks twelve.
I think it's funny when people throw hissy fits and "leave forever" in a huff only to return about a month later.
I think it's funny that people who strongly dislike the proprietor of this site spend so much of their free time here.
I think if one looked at how TomVH got his start in the recruiting biz he would find little difference between Tom's methods and Brandon Brown's.
If you think Ace is a better writer than Brian then I say that you are letting your grudge against Brian's "ethics" affect your judgment, Butterfield. (No offense, Ace.)
the last one (don't know who Ms. Savage is), but as admissions yours are the best in the thread.
I have the shirt but I don't actually think Ohio is the worst state ever.
Same here. It's really Florida.
I actually love double posts.
I think Ohio State has the best fans in the Big Ten and its not even close. I hate to say it but its true.
...then you are correct.
Oh, man. They're so vile and classless...
Go to a Nebraska home game, and you'll see how clueless your assertion is.
Michigan and Notre Dame both have better fight songs than OSU
My HS fight song was OSU's fight song, but I didn't figure that out until college. It took me a while until I didn't habitually start singing along after OSU scored against us.
that could have been annoying. class of 04 or later...yeesh lol
My HS used ND's; we were Catholic and had pure gold football helmets. Pretty sure it was just spray paint or something though.
I miss and long for Nike.
OSUs is objectively pretty lame.
Confession: I love the Michigan marching band but their uniforms are dull and they need to give the color guard something to do.
If I knew a big time recruit I'd tell him to check out some Pac-12 schools (UCLA, USC, Stanford, Cal) because the academics and weather are great.
I thought Rich Rod got a raw deal and if he ends up beating us in a bowl game I might be happy thinking about all of the fans that hated him, especially the ones who thought that stretching for too long scandal was a big deal.
I'll be content if we win 1/4 against Ohio in the near future.
I think our lack of success is because our players aren't that good.
Also: we need Blue endzones with Maize lettering. It would look sharp.
Most teams already do this and it looks great.
That'd be great
The Rose Bowl always had that when Michigan played there. I always thought it would look cool.
to know first hand that Michigan's success in football is cyclical and I therefore have no first hand evidence to believe we will ever be good again.
I am worried that football will cease to exist in any meaningfully recognizable way before we ever win another national championship.
Considering how good we were in 2006, does that mean you're 8 years old?
I didn't care a thing about Michigan till I was a freshman in 06. Ever since then it's been a lot of down hill and a lot of mediocrity. The glory days of the 90's were almost 20 years ago now and Michigan football has been pretty whatever since then
Good, bad, good. Good then bad is just a reversal of fortunes.
Well then I haven't experienced it as cyclical either. It's just gone from good to bad. You'd have to remember Michigan before Bo to experience a cycle.
I think people will be down on Nuss by game 9 yelling that the "simplified offensive scheme" is so simple talented defenses (read MSU) are crushing it and people on these boards will yell "it is too simple".
I was told that our 2012 class will be the nexus of a national championship and I wonder what that hype was about is now.
I am amazed MSU has taken a 2012 no star recruit, planted him at LT, and created an All Big 10 caliber trajectory player, and we have taken our 2012 5 star guard and made him look like a no star recruit.
I am bothered everyone is so focused on the shiny new thing...the new 4/5 star recruits and almost completely ignore the strength of a good program - the 3rd and 4th year players in the system, many of which were likewise 4/5 star recruits. Those are the guys which will point the direction of this team but so many stories are focused on shiny new things.
I hate that Coach Dantonio has done for MSU football what Beilein does for UM basketball - no matter what players show up, now the expectation is they will just reload, esp on defense. And they have done so. And we cant seem to with a much better HS starz level of player.
I miss having a defense that was bad ass. It's been ages.
I watched 74 year old Bill Synder make us look pathetic and thought "that was what an elite coach does...beats superior talent by a small amount and beats equal talent soundly. " Then I pined for a Bill Snyder even at 84 years old.
Heh, at least you've seen it.
The only elite defense I can remember vividly was 2006, and that didn't end well.
I remember 3 things from the 2003 win over ohio. I was in 2nd grade.
All I truly have is 2011. I remember quite a bit from the 2004 Big Ten title season, but I was still 9 years old. Those memories are fading.
I hate that you youngsters make me feel old. When I was in second grade Bump Elliot was the Michigan coach.
Bump was the Coach when I was in the 7th grade !
Go Blue!
When Michigan won the MNC and had a Heisman Trophy winner. So yea, you're old.
You will be old too!
Kindergarten! I don't remember him. I became a Michigan fan in 2nd grade thanks to my homeroom teacher who was a big Michigan fan and would talk about the wolverines all through the Autumn of 1970! From then on I was hooked!
How long it took Dantonio to build up MSU. It took him 4 years to get to double digit wins.
thereafter, not so much.
was with MSU's program not ours--making it more impressive.
I tell my Ohio State fans "It's ok, we're a basketball school now." I only feel a little bit dirty while doing it. Also, I HATE when people refer to our rivals as "O$U", "little brother," "Notre Lame", etc. It's childish and just makes us look bad.
I predicted the app state upset.... It was a warm morning and i and my buddies were watching game day told them the spread offense would kill us and it did.
Hoping for a way for michigan to get harbaugh.
