Cone '09 vs Threet '08?
While watching the spring game for the second time tonight, I heard something that spiked my interest, slightly. One of the commentators mentioned that Cone was as good as Threet at the same point last year. While this might be the most irrelevant speculation ever because of Tate, D-Rob, and Sheridan likely the top 3 at QB, I wondered what some of you thought about this. Is Cone of '09 =, >, or Threet of '08? Personally, I think he is =. I thought Cone looked just like Threet on every series when I first watched the spring game.

...because after watching the team struggle, I didn't want Threet playing QB for Michigan last year (yes I realize he was the best option when healthy, but square peg round hole and all that), and I don't want Cone playing QB for Michigan this year.

playing every game, in 4th Q clean up. But as a starter, of course not.

I would have to say they appeared just about equal. Cone had adequate zip on his passes but his poor accuracy had me seeing flashbacks of Threet all over again. The completely unexpected huge run (albeit in a non-live jersey) also had me thinking of Threet vs Wisconsin and the absurdity of a big guy like that bumbling down the field.
Coner throwing is like firing a blunderbuss. You know the general direction it's going, and it could hit the guy you're aiming at, but then again it could hit the 75 ft to his right in the kneecap.

Funny that you mention the Wisconsin game, because it was just on BTN yesterday. I was making the same comparisons as I was watching it. I think Cone and Threet are pretty similar, especially the Threet in the first half of the game that couldn't hit anybody. They both can throw a pretty ugly ball at times (Threet had some real lame ducks in that game) and the Threet run was almost identical to the Cone run except it went to the left instead of the right.
Threet had a really bad swing pass where he threw it about a yard too far upfield (the outside block got blown up too, so it almost got picked off), and it's cool to see Tate throw that pass so easily on the 2nd play of the spring game.
I thought Cone was on about the same level Threet was last year without the funny arm motion.
I thought the same thing. Even his mechanics reminded me of Threet. I disagree with the zip on the ball however. I thought Cone had half the arm strength that Forcier showed. Especially on passes while running.
Agree. His passes just floated. I thought his arm strength looked Sheridanesque.
