Comparison of Michigan QBs over 50 years
Derrick Hutchinson authored a great article contrasting key statistics of Michigan quarterbacks over the last 50 years. He included a great sortable table of quarterback statistics on a year by year basis.
One key metric, completion percentages, listed Shea Patterson as #1 (YTD obviously). And #2? Jim Harbaugh's 1986 performance.

"If you had told me Denard Robinson had one of the ten best season completion percentages in the last 50 years, I would have called you a liar. If you told me he threw for 8.8 YPA, I would have thrown my shoe at you. If you told me it was in 2010 while we went 7-6, I would have demanded to fight you in a duel"
Safe to say you take statistics and records more seriously than most around here.

It makes sense from the stand point that he also rushed for a ton of yards that year and the offense was based on passing trees/reads that complemented the rest of their offense. Pat White had better than 65% completion pct. 3/4 years at WVU, for example, and guys like Dennis Dixon and Darron Thomas seemed to always be over 60%.

Good point. He had a bonkers year that year with 1700+ yards on the ground and 2500+ yards passing, over 4000 yards of total offense. And we went 7-6. GERG!
Combination of injuries, defenses adjusting, and other factors in 2011 and 2012 led to him posting 55% and 53% completion percentages those seasons.
But dang, what a year of output. I didn't remember it being THAT impressive.

And to think that Denard played on a team where the defense could not get him the ball back. Just think of the numbers he'd have put up if UM had had a defense then like we have now. How many extra snaps would he have gotten?

It may be easier to complete passes when the defense has to put 10 guys in the box to stop you from running 20 yards on every play.
Denard was the best runner that I had seen in college football since Barry Sanders. Not at QB, at ANY position. Defenses sold out everyone to stop him from running.

He's doing everything I want. Accurate passes? Check. Keeping plays alive when needed? Check. Not turning the ball over? Check. The added mobility of him running is just icing on the cake.
Prior to him my favorite QB was Henne, then Denard. Now it might be Shea, Henne, then Denard.

What a trip down memory lane. Steve Smith from GB, Leach from FSW, Zurbrugg filling in for Harbaugh (and Rein?), Demetrius Brown and his epic bad day against MSU. Brown was so physically gifted with the arm and wheels.

D. Brown was only at fault for ONE of those 7 int's!

The stat by which UM QBs are measured and remembered - wins against OSU.
Shea will be a legend if we win in Columbus.

Old school view and I agree 1000%. Jim Harbaugh, with his win guarantee (and delivering on it) is the standard by which all Michigan legends must be measured.

I really hope that Michigan has almost the same game plan as last year...only having Shea over okorn and Black healthy is a good 14 point swing.

He's certainly been everything we'd hoped he could come here and be, and then a bit more.

Two of the three interceptions were bad. One against ND and one against Maryland
If Michigan weren’t as run heavy (which is fine by all means) his stats would be even better.
great play by Shea. Beat Indiana and beat OSU!

Harbaugh had a hand in 4 of the top 7 on that list. Nice!

Griese had a 62.7 % with 17 tds and 6 int. In 1997. He managed the game and it turned out absolutely glorious!
Shea has been better and the defense is just as good!
go blue!
