I would say part of the reason that teams like ND arent BCS contenders is BECAUSE we beat them.
SDSU is looked at as being less likely to win their conference BECAUSE we beat them.
The same Minnesota team that earned national respect by playing tough with USC is now laughed at (partially) BECAUSE we beat them so badly.
At some point, probably 2 weeks from now, if UM is undefeated, we will have to let go of some of the defense mechanisms and admit that the coaches has turned this into a good team, and our reasonable expectations of 8-4 or better with a defense ranked in the 60s is definitely doable. We had a hand in those victories, too, our opponents didn't just decide to let us win because they like our (badass) headgear. Now with numbers.
