I mentioned slight concern over his staring down of targets last week and a few went apeshit. He can't just wait for 4-5 seconds for the first option before forcing it or getting hit. Our play calling is a little indicative of what we think we can do right now from the passing game. It's Butt on the crossing route, Butt corner out, Butt tight curl, Butt 5 out, X WR deep, FB flat. That's it. The staff is aware that he isn't capable of doing all that much. Yet, the concerning part is wether that much was still enough to soundly beat out 2 other guys, as it seems it is. He was anything but good today and 3-4 passes could have easily been INTs, should have to be honest. He's not the guy we saw against Hawaii/UCF because you can afford to stare down targets against them. We have the definition of average QB play right now and I'm ready to accept that our HBs are a bigger problem than the OL.

Speight is clearly a world beater right now. In 3 career starts he's destroyed 2 cupcakes with Montana-esque precision and did enough today to assure all that he's absolutely not an average QB. I'm insane. You're an astute football mind that's not at all a blind homer. Oooga booga pumpkin soup I'm insane. /beer

It didn't start off all that well at all but I did like that Speight eventually shook off the initial rattling he took at that things began to fall mostly into place as they had in the first two games. If there is a positive takeaway in that sense, it is that he successfully overcame quite a bit of adversity, I think. This is something that will come in useful later in the schedule, and if he keeps overcoming it like this, it can only mean good things.

Offense needs work. I don't know how they are going to fix that OL. I have faith that Speight will get better, but with a good running game, Speight is going to be asked to do too much. And I do not believe Speight can carry this team right now. I sure hope both OL and Speight get better by end of October.

On a happy note, we won by 17. That is awesome.

I hated the 3rd down play calls. Instead of getting the first down, we try for the homerun ball. I understand that it's one on one but we were playing terrible.

I'm really hoping (not in a bad way) that Speight had something bothering his throwing shoulder. I was having visions of Navarre all game. If he played through it, then I guess it's explainable. Just can't think of anything else that would cause any ball over 5 yards downfield to look like he was trying to see how badly he could miss his target.

Worried about Running Game

Worried about OL regardless of player assurances

Speight had a bad game hoping that was an abberation and not a breakdown vs a better team.  Speight is throwing scary floaters the past few games don't like that and he seems to have a peripheral vision problem.  Had a few players drilling down on him and he just flat didn't see them.  Also thinkin he may be telegraphing his passes with eye movements.

It would also help of the backs would hit the giant hole. I saw a couple with smith and Isaac where they ran into a pile of bodies when if they would've cut left or followed the pull they would've have a ton of yards instead of 2.

Yeah I think having Drake back will help the running game. Hopefully when he gets back he'll be the healthiest he has ever been. The guy can rip and he's the man when he's hitting on all cylinders. Deveon and Isaac need to get their heads out of their asses and show some emotion. Just once I'd like to see them two pissed off at the same time and punishing people. Tape the ankles and wrists and get your asses to work. Stick the stiff arms and drive the legs.

We adjusted and focused on the place where he had a giant advantage: Butt.  You'd hope our WRs who we think are very good could get open against even very good corners.  Running game had that toss play that worked really well and not much else.  We didn't have anything to threaten them deep so it felt like they could sell out against the run which then made Butt open.

Speight does have an issue with nerves I think.

QB position has to get better just to prevent 8 man boxes. WR's not getting seperation is an issue and that needs to be solved.

Gotta believe in Speight enough to attack the middle of the field and force these safeties to be a little deeper than 8 yds off the LOS.
