Collins & Martin will get a chance to play against Purdue......
This is per Harbaugh this am on 97.1......after hearing about blacks injury.
Quote:
“Kekoa Crawford, Nate Schoenle, Grant Perry. Donovan-Peoples Jones is going to play a bigger role. And other freshmen are going to have an opportunity: Nico (Collins) and Oliver (Martin). One of them or both will definitely be in the mix,” said Harbaugh. “We’ve got good players and they have to step up.”

His poor route running cost us a TD against AF. Speight threw a beautiful ball to the endzone, but McDoom didn't cut or angle to the middle once he passed the DB. You've got to provide a window for the QB to fit the ball into. McDoom didn't and that pass missed by a foot. Should have been a TD. Or I could just be a Speight apologist, I don't know.

and Wilton threw it too early, especially given the great protection on the play

Have to think with the relative success of the run game versus passing, the WRs who can block will get on the field.

Nico in the redzone and Martin outside the redzone, done.
September 20th, 2017 at 11:14 AM ^
I think there is a better chance for us to score in the redzone with a bunch of Perry-shaped route ninjas than overthrowing fades to the TEs and company.

is infact part of the "Jam it in" package.

We don't need no stinking red zone.

Seems like McDoom is basically relegated to gadget plays at this point.

Go go gadget receiver!

He touched the ball way more against Air Force than in typical weeks, so I'm not really sure.
September 20th, 2017 at 11:13 AM ^
Hopefully that's a sign of things to come, he seems like a solid receiver, and is elusive as hell with the ball in his hands.

I would say that the coaches are "setting something up with it" but I said that with the Shane Morris gimmick and Pepcat and eventually found out that no, that was just it.

Seriously, dude? I want him because I hear he's a real scrappy, high-motor guy with a lot of grit. He's a gym rat who gets the most of his abilities and has deceptive speed. You should want to see him for his high footbal IQ and intangibles, not for the color of his skin.
September 20th, 2017 at 11:19 AM ^
guy reminds me of kind of a mixture of Drew Dileo, Julien Edelman, Wes Welker...... and J.J. Redick.

Redick.
Subsitute Spike for Redick and I'd upvote you.

is just the go-to white guy for a generic description of a dude who could find a role in the NBA. It wasn't really supposed to fit.

You know he's bringing his lunch pail to practice each day. He's a coach on the field. A real fan favorite.

your comment, otherwise you're kinda a douche.

will be outrage, then there will be outrage because of the outrage, then the outrage about that outrage will lead to a heightened degree of the original outrage that lead to the secondary outrage about the outrage, then somebody will post a thread about CTE and all of the outrage will move to that thread.

Well, I probably deserve it. But at least I didn't jump up and down and root for him over others and pretend it's ONLY because I think he is probably "headier" and has a "higher football IQ" and "better control over his emotions" or something. I came out and said it, and admitted it was kind of racist. So, I will accept my gang negbang...

DPJ needs at least 5 touches on offense every single game. He only had two catches and had tremendous YAC. I think he scores on an end-around this weekend.
September 20th, 2017 at 11:14 AM ^
Have been the Jet sweep vs Cincy for around 40yds, WR screen for 37ish, punt return for a TD and a converted 1st down on a drag route. Get that man the ball. I would love to see more hitches, slants, slot option routes and drags to get the ball out quick and in the hands of our WRs.
September 20th, 2017 at 11:50 AM ^
Use him how the NYG use Odell Beckham. Turn a 3 yard slant route (over the long side of the field) into a breakaway TD; because once he get's going, no one is going to catch up to him.
September 20th, 2017 at 1:17 PM ^
Point is still valid, but why does the TD punt return count as one of his last touches while his fielding of other punts doesn't?

Those two are connected. More players into the mix is happening out of necessity.
I haven't seen anything to suggest the playbook has been opened recently. The stuff against Air Force was painfully vanilla.

this is a good point. Remember how much Rudock struggled through the first half of the year? Could have been that Harbaugh was bring the playbook along slowly since it was new to everyone. Now you've got a bunch of fresh faces, especially at receiver, and it could be that things are just being installed at a slower pace.
September 20th, 2017 at 11:21 AM ^
new guys to the field will have some stuff to work out, but both of them certainly have shown the ability to earn snaps. Hope they make the besst o fit!
September 20th, 2017 at 11:26 AM ^
I would settle for a nice little game of continuous chain moving. Let's throw, hand off and pitch to the guys that do that.
September 20th, 2017 at 11:28 AM ^
Good to get the young guys ready now. With Black out for likely the rest of the season, need someone to step in and take those reps.
Going to find out a lot about this team on Saturday. Purdue is highly motivated and will be expecting to win. I hope either the offense can finally wake up, or if it doesn't, I hope the defense plays absolutely lights out.

Guess its good to have a ridiculous WR recruiting class to pick from just hangin around on the sideline. While the WR corps lacks a lot of experience it sure has a ton of raw potential. Hopefully they can start putting it together now and Collins and Martin will make some plays out there.
September 20th, 2017 at 11:39 AM ^
Very talented, young group. Probably at least 10 potential receivers/tight ends who could make an immediate impact on passing game.
Assuming good play calling and Speight being accurate (certain there will be 10 MORE threads on these two topics along with red zone offense woes) the question is - which of them can get separation and find the holes in the zone? Seems like this is where the experience factor hurts us the most.
I am picking Perry, Crawford and Gentry to be the go to guys at Purdue - but it is anyone's guess at this point.
