College gameday opening at Lambeau Field for LSU vs. Wisconsin

That should be a great game. I don't understand why they're playing at Lambeau though.

it's in Wisconsin. I mean, I don't think moving certain games to nuetral, historically significant venues is all that new of a thing after Notre Dame's world tour and Yankee Stadium/Wrigley Field games. I think this is just another angle on that.

I am not really sure why that needed to be clarified but outstanding.
April 13th, 2016 at 12:49 PM ^
Yes, but if the UW student section doesn't have its normal allotment, it will offer less of a homefield advantage.
if so, then those that make it will more than make up for the missing thousands.
should be a great game either way. love college football. will make sure to have the TV connected by then.

I think those are stupid too. We only get 7 (or 8 like this year) chances to see games in our favorite team's stadium in a year and those type of things take one away. If we did something like this I'd be pissed. We lost one home game in 2012 because of the stupid Dallas neutral site game.
April 13th, 2016 at 12:40 PM ^
I don't seem to recall that game.
April 13th, 2016 at 12:49 PM ^
... and we've got another one at Jerryworld against Florida next season. How great would some kind of home-and-home have been?
April 13th, 2016 at 12:53 PM ^
Wonderful, I forgot about that. A home and home with Florida would have been great and we missed the chance. And by we I mean Dave the douche Brandon.
April 13th, 2016 at 12:56 PM ^
I am actually really excited about visit AT&T Stadium for the Florida game next year. We have to accept that most SEC teams won't come up here. Fortunatly for us our fanbase allows us to not be at a disadvantage for these neutral site games.
The UF game makes more sense - I get it when they aren't home and homes, only takes 1 opening on the calendar, doesn't give the either team huge home field advantage, and allows the chance to play a great team early in the year.
But when its Houston/Lambeau, it may as well have been home and home. That part I don't get.
I don't really care to see us play a high profile team in the regular season if I can't see it in person...what is the point then? That's what bowl games are for.
I'd rather watch it on tv than not at all. And if both teams don't have 2 openings, it won't happen. Plus, those early games really get the ball rolling in terms of rankings, which can make up for a stumble (ie you get the benefit of the doubt more than beating up on bowling green). I know the argument is we are Michigan, take care of your business and you're fine, but its nice to have a little extra insurance.
Of course, the flip side is you risk an early season loss before the team has time to gel, ala Utah.
I know home games are ideal, but some people can actually watch the game more easily in Dallas than AA. Plus, I'm going to really enjoy the MSU game this year, even though I won't be there :)
It also helps exposure in the state of TX.

has this 9/2/2017 Michigan/Florida game at Jerry World already circled on his calendar!
another one in 2017, I think.

...or Home-ish and Home-ish.
Yes they did, which makes it worse, at that point, why not just do a home and home???

I believe when this series was being negotiated, LSU did not want to play at Camp Randall where very few LSU fans would be in attendence. Wisconsin will still have a big advantage in Green Bay but there will be a sizeable LSU contingent there.
Most of the SEC does not play true away games North of the Mason Dixon line and seldom outsinde of the SEC footprint.. SInce 1980 Alabama has played eight games ina stadium outside of the SEC territory.
1980 Rutgers W
1983 PSU L
1984 Cinci W (didn't have to go too far outside of the SEC for that one)
1987 ND L
1989 PSU W
2000 UCLA L
2002 Oklahoma L
2011 PSU W
And Alabama is one of the better ones. Five games in thirty years. They are too busy playing the Citadel and other southern powerhouses. They prefer a home and neutral.

I absolutely cannot stand it when college teams play in NFL stadiums.

I do have to say though, Lambeau is one of the more college-y atmosphere NFL stadiums.
Jerry World is one of the worst.
I just wish they were playing this game in November.
Fuck 'em, I wish it was a CFP site and LSU had to play there in late December.

Nothing sadder than someone gloating over a win over the Lions...when they lost to them just a few weeks prior.

Fixed it.

I'm hoping for some strange polar vortex to roll in that weekend so it snows, or at least is cold.
Kudos to LSU for going north of the Mason-Dixon though.

Kind of a cheesy idea.

Ouch - four straight games against MSU, us, OSU and Iowa. Luckily they have their bye in there.
Wow, they got Michigan, Ohio State, and Michigan State from the East.
Who did they piss off?
They could be the best team from the West and still finish in 3rd place over there because of that schedule.
April 13th, 2016 at 12:39 PM ^
That's not a brutal schedule.
That's a tough stretch in the B1G + a home game versus LSU.
How many times we've had a tough B1G stretch + one tough non-conference game?
Just because Iowa had a cakewalk doesn't mean that's the norm...this schedule above does nothing for me. It's how it should be minus 3 of 4 in your tough stretch on the road...but they do get a BYE week in there so that helps.
How do we know Iowa is going to be great again? I feel like they've been more inconsistent than even Michigan has been in the past 10 years.
Sorry, it's brutal compared to our schedule.
FTFMyself
Their crossover games are Michigan, Michigan State, and OSU!? Yikes.
end up 5 - 7, or worse. Easily.

I think they can cram more people in there than Camp Randall. I'm sure Jump Around will still be awesome in an NFL stadium.
Capacity of Camp Randall 80321
Capacity of Lambeau 80735
And the stands won't be shaking during Jump Around

I still have to do a double take seeing Wisconsin listed as playing a big time opponent in non-conference after the 3 straight decades of playing the likes of Western Kentucky, Wofford and the Citadel.
I remember a few years ago, someone on rivals.com added up the record of every non-conference team they played from 1990 to 2013 and they had a combined 29% winning percentage.
April 13th, 2016 at 12:49 PM ^
They opened against Bama last year and got crushed. That said, the Bama game was certainly against the norm.
April 13th, 2016 at 12:50 PM ^
I know. This is the third straight year they're opening with a legit opponent. I'm still not used to it.
April 13th, 2016 at 12:47 PM ^
I'm surprised by this, as they normally (well, lately) go to the game in Jerry World.
