CJ must have incredible leadership skills

I guess that playing defense doesn't count? Grady doesn't play because he can't stay in front of anyone defensively. CJ Lee is no offensive savior, but he's not a gaping liability on the defensive end. That's why he plays.

No kidding. Look, lay of CJ. He is what he is. He's our best on-the-ball guard defender and he runs the offense under control. Everyone wants Grady to be the guy getting minutes, including me, but when he still can't control the mental mistakes on defense he isn't going to see the floor. Especially against a team the shoots lights out from the perimeter.

Cj plays because we have no one at the position besides him and Grady. Michigan's two glaring needs on the basketball team is their lack of talent at point guard and center. And a lot of times our boys lose because of the deficiences at these two positions. I just pray that Darius Morris is a considerable upgrade at the position.

Oh, it must be time for the old how dare you criticize the walk-on routine. I'm so sorry that I criticized CJ Lee, because he was once a walk-on. That makes him sacrosanct. Although he is on scholarship now, his previous walk on status touches my heart so much that I immediately regret ever posting comment that did not extol the virtues of his hard work, grit, and walk-on-ness. He's a better defender than Grady, which is not saying much, and that's about it. Even his defense looked pretty shitty today.

I just think it's odd that you want to lay the blame on CJ Lee's 5:1 TO ratio (admittedly, 0/5 shooting) when the team shot 32% from the floor. If you want to explain why we lost, it would go something like this: 1. We shot horrendously (this is nothing new if you've watched the past 10 games) - admittedly, Lee's 0/5 was a contributing factor here - but so was Sims' 5/14, Harris' 3/13, and Perry's 2/7. 2. We got screwed in the final 50 seconds of the game. 3. Somehow, a team THAT PLAYED THEIR STARTING FIVE THE WHOLE GAME (only 7 minutes went to the bench) somehow was fresher and stronger in overtime. 4. We got to the line 3 times in the entire game (partially shitty reffing) Furthermore, if you wade through the past 6 games, you'll notice that the damage that opposing PG's have done to us has curbed significantly since Grady starting riding the bench. I don't think CJ Lee is solely to blame for the loss. But CJ's saving grace is supposed to be his defense, and Iowa's back-up guards raped us in the ass last game, punctuated by a 94 foot lay-up (admittedly that wasn't all Lee's fault). He is terrible on offense and I don't think his slight defensive value compensates for that. Even if he is the team's best option, of which I am unconvinced, he is still plain bad.

I guess that I just have a problem with describing college kids playing at maximum effort as "useless". Further, Lee had a tough game yesterday as, plainly, he was too short to guard Kelly. However, he succeeded in completely shutting down the guys he guarded in the previous 4 games, and he's probably Michigan's best on-the-ball defender. Finally, his 5/1 assist to turnover ratio was pretty good.

When a player does next to nothing when he is playing, I think it is appropriate to claim that "he really does not do anything of use on the basketball court." I'm not sure how his giving maximum effort somehow makes him more useful. It's not like he got a 1/2 a pt for any of his 5 missed field goals, including that awesome lay-up in OT, because he was trying really hard. His A/TO in the Iowa game was good, but his shooting and defense were not. His A/TO on the season is surprisingly decent, but he is still a point guard averaging 1.4 assists per game. He is just not good. Assuming he is our best on ball defender, he is still a total non-entity on the offensive end not only in terms of points, but in terms of assists as well. He does nothing at one end of the floor, and does very little at the other.

How does "our best defender" = "very little"? He had a bad game against Iowa, all told, but my objection is to you using the single game as a reason he shouldn't play. He's essentially a bizarro version of Kevin Grady - except he's a much better defender than Grady is an offensive player.
