Citrus Bowl tailgate party with former players

Submitted by SaigonBlue on

We had a great tailgate party today made even more special by the attendance of several former players: Elliot Mealer, Roy Roundtree, Greg Mathews, Tom Neal, Tom Dixon, Jon Conover, and others. All interesting and intelligent guys with great stories of their experiences in the winged helmet. True "Michigan Men", all of them.

The photo below shows some of the championship rings on display today: 1981 Rose Bowl Champion, 2011 Sugar Bowl Champion, University of Washington 1985 Pac-10 Champion (rowing), and two Eastern Kentucky University 1982 1-AA National Champions.

It sounds like this was a blast.

Btw, there was a Michigan State tailgate at the Cotton Bowl with Lorenzo White and a few other State players that turned out to be a scam (the promoter was the scammer, not the MSU athletes).  Unlimited beer, soft drinks and mixed drinks, buffet, dj, big screen tvs, were promised for $50.  It turns out there were a couple of kegs, no cups, very little food, and no permit, so what little was there was shut down by the police.

Did they at least have the common decency to bring couches and lighter fluid?  I mean I doubt the MSU fans there would notice (or even care) is that other crap like beer, food, soda was missing if they were considerate enough to bring the "party essentials" for a top-shelf MSU tailgate blast.

That's awesome!! Treezy is out here in CO coaching CSU-Pueblo and been around Denver a bit. We have a handful of former players who live in A2 who are usually at our tailgates on the golf course. Talking to those guys - former players - is what makes me shudder at adult fans heckling recruits on Twitter and take pause whenever the fans are too harsh on the kids. Some of the stories I've heard makes you hate some fans in how they behave. Great story and tailgate and game!!
