Chris Evans Feature on Sportscenter this morning

Regardless how you feel about ESPN, they have a nice feature on Chris Evans and his off season work this morning. Definitely worth checking out if you are able.

Marquee game on ABC behind Bama/FSU...they should be pumping out features over the next 30 hours. ESPN goes full hype train if you're a big time matchup on its networks. It sucks when it's OSU in those (like yesterday) or SEC. But it's awesome when it's you. Hype video enthusiasts will get a bunch of content from this first weekend.

Fantastic young man with a bright future! Oh, and he will have some big plays Saturday as they get him the ball out of several different formations.

But too many talented players in front of him. Martin was a huge surprise in camp. He was a late steal and better than expected. So much raw talent in that freshman class and then there are still players like Crawford, McDoom and Johnson who was moved due to the depth at the receiver position. Add a very good TE corps to that group. All 5 have played well in camp. McKeon is will turn heads. Wheatley has taken over TE1.

That's great news on Wheatley.  He has such great physical tools, so if he puts the technique together and develops the football IQ, watch out.  I think he and McKeon are the two guys with the best chance of being complete tight ends, as opposed to just big receivers.

I'm trying to lower my expectations for the receivers this year because it's so unusual for freshmen to be really good at that position.  But it's so difficult with everything we keep hearing.  I had big expectations for Martin when we recruited him - thought we got a steal.  But then I saw a couple practice clips and got confirmation.

There was that over the back TD grab, and one I saw where he put this really subtle move on a guy and then just flew past him downfield like he got shot out of a cannon.

We all know DPJ and Black are for real.  I think Martin is, too.  It might take a year for three freshmen to fully grasp the offense, but at some point people are going to talk about Michigan as Receiver U.  I love this class!

Oh, and Pep is the perfect OC to capitalize on this abundance of riches.

Ulizio had an amazing last 5 days of camp. They moved him around and to the left side, but he kept exceeding expectations. When he came back over to RT he flat out just took the job from Runyan. He has a great base, very good run blocker, super aggressive, and quick hands. The only knock might be the pass protection right now. Worried about quick DE's over there. JBB was right on their heels, so it was close all the way.

We need Nordin to be accurate and Robbins to be as advertised. Followed by giving up the big play on defense. That happened too many times in camp. The CB's have a lot of pressure on them. After that, RG and RT. They can establish a running game, but can they protect the QB? Stay healthy!

thought McDoom was going to the successor as the dangerous punt/kickoff return specialist.  When I saw the kick returners I thought it was odd that 1) McDoom isn't listed as a starter there, and 2) that DPJ would be used in that spot.  At first blush, he doesn't seem to be suited to that role and you would hate to see him go down with an injury in that role and lose a season.

But it also would have sucked to lose Steve Breaston or Jabrill, but having them on return duty seemed to be a good idea. Now, DPJ is probably not either of those guys, but if he's our best it's his job.

you're right.  The biggest reason I was suprised is because I did not think Jones' measurables screamed "kick returner."  But I guess I thought he was bigger than he is.  I had classified him in with the Tarik Black type monster receiver who would not suited to return kicks but 6'2 193 is not that.  He may be just fine in that role.

Well, Breaston was a ridiculous returner who also struggled with the big-time things you need out of a reciver. Let's contrast the Illinois return in 2003, where he went sideline-to-sideline and scored a touchdown after running like 200 yards, against any time he had to catch a deep ball over his shoulder... He was absolutely the right choice to return kicks.
