Cheers - to the best Saturday of College Football in recent memory

Submitted by lhglrkwg on

What a great day of football. It's rare anymore that I can park on the couch at noon and be content to sit here till midnight watching football but here I've sat from the end of gameday till now because it felt like there was constant flow of 2-3 great games going at a time

MSU upsetting PSU on a FG as time expired...Bedlam going into an absolute shootout and still manging to come down to the last minute...Iowa absolutely destroying OSU in a Kinnick classic...NC State and Clemson going down to the wire...the entire SEC looking awful today...four top 25 matchups so far and now three consecutive top 25 matchups to wrap up the night

This is why we love college football. Don't tell me I was the only one who loved the whole day from start to finish.

I'm from the Class of 97.  For me MSU is Little Brother and can't compete with us.  I know some of the millenials around here get mad when you say that, but let's be honest.  They are inferior and who cares about them?  I'm much more happy when PSU and OSU lose.  Those guys are the real threat.  Not second rate MSU.  Can't believe Dantoni hasn't left them yet.

MSU can't compete with us? That's a joke.

MSU has won:

  • 8 out of 10 against Michigan
  • 4 out of 5 against Penn State
  • 3 out of 5 against Wisconsin
  • is an even 3-3 in their last 6 against Ohio State.

Be honest, we would kill for all of those records. If Sparty wins next week, it's a fair argument that they are the best program in the Big Ten so far this decade.

As a U of M fan it does get tiring seeing msu mix slothball football with the occasional post route and then steal games at the last second. But I actually preferred them to state Penn.

It was a joy to see Franklin run down the field after the game to remind his depressed team to go shake hands and show sportsmanship.

Agree with this. Glad to see PSU season's fall apart after they threw everything, including the kitchen sink, at us to try to match the differential from our win last season. Karma for a short-sighted, egomaniac.

We beat ourselves against MSU for the second time in Harbaugh's tenure. I feel these incidences will stop when Peters/DPJ/Black/Walker and everyone filtering them are 2-3 years seasoned.

I thought last week was maybe the best of recent memory (Iowa St, us, Sparty losing, the overall good Penn St-Ohio St game, and another game or two I was rooting for turning out as I wished...)

(I'm in Iowa fwiw...definitely been fun rooting the Cyclones on)

It was pretty close to perfect. I would have liked to see Clemson and Miami lose though. I hope sparty gets their hopes up just to have their collective dong punched hard next week. Give me a psu loss somewhere down the stretch and The Game will be the high stakes game its supposed to be.

No, it's not.  It's poorly phrased by the conference (surprise!) but the first tiebreaker is record in games between the tied teams.  Non-conference games are irrelevant until step 7 in the tiebreaking procedure.

So theoretically: a four way tie we would be 1-2 against the other tied teams, PSU would be 1-2, while OSU and MSU would be 2-1.  Then OSU would go to the title game because they have beaten MSU in any reasonable scenario where this would happen.

A three way tie with MSU and PSU we would be done because we lost to both of them, then MSU would go because they beat PSU head to head.

A three way tie with MSU and OSU all three teams would be 1-1 against the others.  Second tiebreaker is record within the division, which would eliminate us, because we would be 4-2 while each of them would be 5-1.  Then OSU would go because they would have beaten MSU.

A three way tie with OSU and PSU is exactly the same deal, with OSU going because of their win over PSU.

We only go if we win out and tie ONLY with Ohio State.  This requires two MSU losses (to OSU and Maryland or Rutgers) and one PSU loss (to Maryland, Rutgers, or Nebraska).

to being in the drivers seat ourselves.  That seemed impossible two weeks ago.

And after we lost to PSU and MSU, it was those two teams and OSU in the drivers seat.  That hasn't was never going to change.  So you're nightmare happened 2 and 4 weeks ago.

But now we're back in the conversation because we got the exact results we wanted in all four games involving MSU, PSU and OSU in the past two weeks.

Hence, it's been a great two weeks.  Best case scenario in the past two weeks.

In our classical Michigan way.  Dear young ones, this is how we used to win all the time for the most part. Running would open Anthony Carter for the bomb. It works. Enjoy.
