Charles Woodson's Wine

"TwentyFour is an endeavor that, like its proprietors, was born of humble beginnings and evolved into so much more. Blended from grapes that were cultivated in some of the most exclusive vineyards in the Napa Valley, TwentyFour embodies the abundant blessings that surround us. This is a wine of pure enjoyment, gratitude, giving back and paying forward. From our cellar to yours, we hope you enjoy." - Charles Woodson For some reason I don't think Woodson said it exactly like that. http://www.twentyfourwines.com/index.php

I'm ruined on wine now, anyway. I had some crazy awesome stuff on my honeymoon cruise (which I paid $50 just for the privilige of trying, plus $150 per plate for the food and wine), and I can't hardly drink everyday wines anymore. ONce you've had a white that instead of claiming "hints of toasted walnuts", actually tastes like freaking TOASTED WALNUTS, you can't drink less very well.

Make our own wine every year. We go down to Eastern Market and start from scratch. Last year's batch yielded two hundred bottles and let me tell you, there is nothing more satisfying then opening your own bottle with a good meal. We are red drinkers and this will be the first year we try white as well. We did a tour this past summer and tried some ice wine, which is crazy expensive, but tastes like liquid honey.

We serve it at the restaurant I work at and it's a good wine. Plus for every bottle sold, another $10 goes to Mott's. He came in to do a bottle signing and I had a chance to talk to him for a minute which was great. He might not have come up with that description in the OP but he was actually quite involved in the process of creating the wine, it's not just something he lent his name to. I couldn't resist buying a bottle to get it signed and I noticed that when he signed it he wrote "Charles Woodson 21", which I thought was funny considering the name of the bottle.

I was just saying that it was funny that the motto on the site was not something you expect to hear from a guy with his personality. He's an intelligent guy and well spoken but still you don't hear all-pro wrecking balls like him talk like that. I'm glad he takes pride in things off the field as well as on.

Too pricey for me but I would like to try it on a special occasion. For all the MGoBlog users, here is a special tip from me: Try the "Bodegas El Nido Clio" wine. Made in Spain, one of the best wines I've ever had, and it's only ~$45 per bottle. Stuff can be hard to come by and most vintages are sold out (but probably can be found through some digging). The 2008 vintage should be coming out soon, though. (just as some backup, I used a place in Chicago called "UnCorkIt" and probably dropped $50-$100 on booze there every week (I'm not an alcoholic, I swear!) and when I asked about buying a case of this stuff a few days after it came out I was told "Sir, this is a very popular wine and everything we had of it has already been sold." Needless to say I don't shop there anymore since I had been asking about it weeks before it came out.)

...if Woodson had founded his winery on Michigan's Old Mission or Leelanau Peninsulas. There are many excellent wineries up that way cranking out world-class whites year after year. Even their reds are becoming competitive, but we'll probably never see a great Syrah or Cab Sauv from that climate.

I have had this wine and it is very good. Wine making and collecting has been in my family for generations, and this is a worthy addition to any cellar. Donating some of the proceeds to Mott Childrens Hospital makes it even better.
