Delany will whine, but this is the best possible thing that could have happened to the Big Ten.

The conference just could not absorb another beat down again.

Now we get to reboot and start fresh next year.

This helps Michigan, who will start to be in the CFP picture going forward.

Hilarious seeing these fools try to justify OSU.  They barely beat Michigan, Wiscy was a "close" game, the get trounced by Iowa and Oklahoma.

No one mentioning Barret being "injured"...

Fuck OSU so much fuck OSU.

Any OSU fan who whines after taking a second loss like that in November, get the fuck outta here. Ha! Committee told them to take their shitty loss and fuck off.

I figured Alabama would get selected just for being Alabama. But in this case, it knocks out OSU, so I'm ok with it.

You can't lose by 31 to freaking Iowa and play for the title. Sorry. I really didn't think any Big 10 team deserved to go to the playoff.

I'm still going to happily root against Bama but I'm extra relieved there is no OSU, MSU or ND in the playoff.

It's interesting that in bizarro-world 2017, Alabama actually doesn't have any big wins. I know they played FSU before Francois went out, but Francois wasn't the reason FSU's offense clicked last year. Dalvin Cook was one of the best backs in the country.

Edit: I'm not saying that OSU's resume is any better. Hard to argue for a team that got absolutely blown out by 7-5 Iowa.

Why it’s important to schedule good teams for our non conference games now? The committee doesn’t give a shit, not to mention we play 9 conference games.

Alabama did play good teams out of conference. Florida State was #3 in the nation when Alabama dismantled them and their QB. It would be naive to think that didn’t weigh heavily on the Committee, plus they played Fresno State who was ranked in the final regular season standings. “Alabama didn’t play anyone” is somewhat factually inaccurate since they played 8 bowl eligible teams and 4 top 25 teams.

They ended up 6-6 because Alabama utterly destroyed them and their QB. They ended up 6-6, because they were forced to play a 6’3 165 point true freshman QB after Bama obliterated their offense for 4 quarters. Alabama is clearly a better football team than Ohio State. The BCS computers would’ve said, “Ah FSU only went 6-6, not a quality win.” We hated that system so we went to a Committee who can say, “Okay, FSU went 6-6, but Alabama destroyed their season by killing their QB. They have 9 NFLers so it’s a good OoC win.”

In listening to the committee chair it’s clear that losing by 31 to Iowa really sealed OSU’s fate. They didn’t mention the loss to OU, which indicates that losing early to top ranked teams isn’t a death blow, but losing late to unranked team is most definitely.

I’m not pleased with Bama’s selection, but I’d be way more upset with OSU (once again) sneaking in.

People complaining about the non-conference need to remember that FSU was the #2 team coming into the year.  It's not Alabama's fault they fell apart this year.  Fresno was garbage when Alabama scheduled them; now they're a top-25 team.  CSU was 10-3 when this game was scheduled, I believe, so they probably figured that was a decent matchup.

It's like Michigan's OOC last year.  Everyone looked at Colorado and UCF and figured those were terrible teams; turns out both were pretty good, with UCF being elite this year and CU winning their division and 10 games last year.

You schedule who you can when you can, and I don't think anyone would have suspected that the SEC would be that down this year and that FSU would be that bad.  I don't like Alabama, and I can see an argument for OSU getting in because of division championships, but bitching about OOC games schedule 2-3 years in the past is the wrong tact IMO, especially when both OSU and Alabama signed up for nationally-ranked programs.

Per S&P, Alabama's preseason OOC schedule featured a team that was, on average, 43rd in the country (I'm ignoring Mercer because that seems to be a conference-mandated requirement, but feel free to include them if you want).  OSU's was 54.

Each team played one tough game OOC and nobody else.  That happens.  And OSU lost to the only good team they played in the OOC, somewhat badly, at home.  So I don't give you a lot of credit for getting blown out by a good team.  And Iowa and Florida State finished about equal in terms of S&P (last I saw it was 62 and 50).  Alabama crushed the Noles and Iowa ran over OSU.

So again, there are arguments to be made for giving a spot to OSU.  But OOC scheduling is not one of them.

I have zero problem with Bama getting in. OSU didn’t deserve to jump Bama after that pathetic performance in the BIGCG. Furthermore the development of our young QB’s was wasted on giving JT Barrett a fifth year. Imo Barrett wasn’t going to improve his pocket presence and decision making in another years time . If you can’t do it by 4 years what will change in the 5th year? Now had we blown out Wisconsin like we could have without a 5th year QB throwing 2 interceptions like a freshman would throw. I just don’t understand having such loyalty for one guy over giving the other 104 players the best chance to win. We would only have had an argument jumping Bama with a stellar performance by JT and the rest of the team. Even then it’s hard to argue when a 7-5 Iowa team puts upon 55 points on you.
