CFN Article - Tuesday Question - What Now For Michigan?

Submitted by ImSoBlue on

OK, I know it's CFN and they butcher facts on a regular basis, yet here is an article that generally raises the bar for our program and is generally positive.  They have us ranked 13th in their weekly power rankings.

Fiutak:

As great as Denard Robinson has been so far, he's only part of the story. The stats might say otherwise, but the reason for the Michigan resurgence has been the play of an offensive line that's doing a phenomenal job so far.

Criminello:

. . . I do worry about the hits mounting. He’s taken plenty, and isn’t especially thick. That aside, I’ve seen nothing in the first two weeks to believe his early heroics are a fluke or are about to expire anytime soon.

...watched the Denard Robinson postgame interview, and I'm a smitten kitten.  He seems like such a genuine and nice young man.  I'm extremely proud of our newest ambassador.

What now for Michigan?  Well for starters we're going to learn a lot about our back ups and young players over the next couple of weeks.  We're going to see some new wrinkles from the coaching staff on both sides of the ball.  These quarterback draws are working but we need some more variation from the running game.  It's almost as if our running pacakage has taken a step back from last year in terms of actual # of different packages and plays run from the running game.  We have yet to see any option pitch, any triple option, or any veer type option reads.  Maybe we don't have the backs for these types of plays?  But either way we need to open the playbook up a bit more and give defenses something else to prepare for.  In the passing game I would expect to see some shots taken down field in the next couple of games to get Denard comfortable with our 4 verticals play and other deep, downfield routes.  I'd also expect the kicking battle to heat up over the next two to three weeks as well.  There is going to be a time where we really are going to need one of these guys to step up.  I'm excited for Michigan going forward.  We have an amazing opportunity for 9 wins this year heading ino a bowl.

Wow. That was a lot of Michigan content. Also, a lot of what has already become tired old chestnuts (can he take the hits, remember last year started well, Big 10 defenses). Still, who'd a thunk that Michigan would merit 3,500 positive words on CFN back during spring ball?

speaking of brilliant commentary, ESPN has discovered why Denard is so fast:

“We know that he’s fast, the question is: why is he fast?” Matich asked. “Speed is stride-length times stride-frequency. If you move your legs really fast, but don’t have long strides, then you don’t cover much ground. If you try to stretch it out and have longer strides, it slows down your stride frequency. The thing about Robinson is he can do both. You see the impact in the 87-yard touchdown against Notre Dame.”

Oh! i get it now!  So fast  = move your legs quickly and over a big distance.

brilliant.

Talk about the most amazing discovery in the field of Physics since Einstein. Let me get this straight - if you move your legs quickly =  fast? This guy is writing some ground breaking stuff here, and I'm blown away. Next week he plans to break down how pushing harder will increase the speed of your piss. I can't wait!
