CC: A thread for people who still support RR

Submitted by Communist Football on

Comrades,

We may be in the extreme minority now, but I think there should be at least one thread on this board for people who believe in the spread offense and believe in what RR is building here.  Let Harbaugh go to the NFL, and have DB force RR to fire the entire defensive staff, including his cherished colleagues from the WVU days.  Our offense is still improving, and our defense can only get better.

If Harbaugh does indeed go to the NFL -- which is at least a possibility at this point -- the likely outcome is that DB keeps RR. Let's make sure that RR knows that we're behind him and are rooting for his success.

I've always appreciated your posts (even if I haven't always agreed with them). However, I don't think in the current climate you can just give RR one more year solely out of principle - how would Michigan attract a top DC or keep recruiting alive if everyone believes Michigan is just going through the motions with RR for one more year? And is it reasonable to expect Michigan to win enough games, and the right games (ie MSU and OSU), next year to win people back over?

You'd almost have to give him an extension to try to stabilize the situation, but if DB would have a hard time keeping RR through his existing contract, how realistic would it be for DB to try and offer an extension? Especially after this bowl game?

I'm sorry, but I just don't see how it's viable.

could hitch his wagon to RR and go as he goes, knowing that, if he has confidence he is a truly elite DC, he can be paired up as part of a potential gamechanging tandem. if i were a DC who felt i was just as 'genius' or competent as RR is on offense, i would take it as a personal challenge. at worst there's going to be another team a'calling next year. and i'm sure the paycheck, if sizable enough, would get me over that hump.

not so much for performance thus far but rather what next year will be like with a coaching change. I'd rather have RR for one more year and hope it is the "magic" year, rather than blow it all up and start from scratch.

3---5---7---____ probably 9, and maybe another depending on health, etc

20 f'ing starters back and a Heisman candidate at QB returning.

entire DL back, better LB corps back, better secondary, Woofolk back

better OL back, all RB's back, all WR's back, all QB's back, Koger back

better punting

RR's 4th year is the year Michigan turns the corner. Denard said it himself. Michigan schedule sets up very favorably.

Michigan gets better. MSU, PSU, OSU, AND IOWA, ALL get worse. Surely there is 2 more wins in that group and maybe a 3rd.

While I thought you composed yourself better in college than in the NFL, I have to commend you on a well written comment.

I don't see any sense in blowing up this RR "experiment" w/o a fourth year after all the investment we've put into it as a fanbase.

I'm happy this thread has not only been created, but thrives. Since I'm in friendly territory on this one, I'd like to posit the following:

Both supporters and non-supporters of Rich Rodriguez agree that there has existed from day one a strong force of negativity emanating from a loud and (arguably) substantial portion of the fanbase. This negativity has snowballed with each season.

If we all agree that a substantial portion of the fanbase has at least played a factor in his lack of success, isn't that sad? I read mgoboard and cannot escape the feeling that the RR detractors are basically doing a victory lap because "THEY WERE RIGHT."

Isn't that kind of fucked up?

PS (edit): Perhaps now is the time when the entire mgoboard should either be reminded of, or become privy to the term:

counterfactual: (noun) a conditional statement in which the first clause is a past tense subjunctive statement expressing something contrary to fact, as in "if she had hurried she would have caught the bus"

Let me start by saying I'm not an RR supporter anymore.  Wish the guy the best, but I think it's time to move on.  That said, I don't think many of the floated alternatives to RR are attractive, and I'm a flexible kind of guy who listens to other opinions and considers them when forming my own.  So let me pass the ball over to the remaining believers:

1. Let's say DB decides to keep RR.  What, then, is our roadmap to success?  What pieces are already in place and which ones do we need to put in place?  What do you think, realistically, our record will be next year?  Do we have the personnel to start beating our rivals again and compete for the Big 10?  If not next year, then in how long?

2. Let's say DB decides to fire RR.  Who are your favored candidates for the vacant position, and why?

Rich Rod Offensive Head Coach, we have all seen what he can do with the offense.

Brady Hoke Defensive Head Coach, he was Michigans Defensive Coach from 1995-2002, it was during this time that Michigan did have a great defense and won the National Championship.

Rich Rod is a very good Head Coach and in reality Brady Hoke is a very good Head Coach and defensive minded.

Never happen, but could be great if it did.
