Carl Pelini to FAU

Submitted by dinsdale613 on

According to ESPN, Carl Pelini has agreed to become FAU's new head coach.  This, of course, leave a vacancy at Defensive coordinator at Nebraska.  The name that seems at the top of the list is Mike Stoops, who is apparently good friends with Bo Pelini.  This could create an interesting bidding war between Nebraska and OSU.

Well, their offense is almost certainly going to get better.  A coordinator would be just as good as a coach in that regard.

Also, I'd be reluctant, if I were a good offensive guy, to be the head coach at a school with a rock bottom offense.  If they don't have talent, you're gonna look bad no matter what.

I wonder if there is really any stock to the "home team" theory?  I ask this, because Bob, Mike, and Mark Stoops all were born in Ohio, yes, but all 3 also played college ball at Iowa.

I would hope that if a kid commited to a university, that he truly be committed, considering all the time and effort on the field and in the classroom.

Otherwise logic says, we have Denard coaching at Florida or FSU because hes a "Florida guy" or Lewan going to Ariz or ASU because he's an "Arizona guy."  Dogs and cats living together...MASS HYSTERIA!!

It can be a curse.  The University administration can convince itself that a success local born coach will never leave.  Because he has roots in the area and this is his home.  Then they refuse to give him more money for assistant pay and facilities, so he leaves WVU and comes to Michigan.  It all depends on the lens through which your roots are viewed.  Sometimes people think they have you by the balls and neglect your needs.  Sometimes they celebrate your homecoming.  It can be a curse or a blessing.
