This is an awesome troll job by him. I laughed.  Also his income after winning a national championship for osu is probably more than being a 3rd round pick this year let's be honest.

Not sure why the press conference--it almost sounds like it wasn't his idea--but that aside, he made the kind of decision people on this Board usually respect, and he comes off sincere, well-spoken and saying all the "right" things.

yes, we have all seen this-----thousands of times.   It was funny 2 1/2 years ago.  He has since reportedly become a good student.  The fact is that he was thoughtful and well-spoken at the press conference.  We would say so if he were one of ours.  But by all means, don't let anyone mature.  Hold them to their worst moment.

"He has since reportedly become a good student"

Yeah, a good student in the "Hey Cardale you dumbass, just keep your mouth shut and let us take the classes for you like we promised you and Alolphus when we recruited you." sense.

Yeah how do you know? You get his grades every semester..enough of this nonsense, the guy was give a gift by God to play in three games and win the NC, so take advantage of it and run..who was Cardel Jones if JT never broke his leg? He would be nobody

for that epic tweet.  Do we still not relate "I'm a man!  I'm 40!" to Mike Gundy seven years later?  Cardale's gonna get some ribbing for that tweet for the rest of his life.  And there's no reason for UM fans not to give it to him.

However, I do admit that "Playskool" has morphed from a derisive term into a joking/endearing one in the wake of what he has accomplished on the field and how he has carried himself off the field.  Damn!!!!

This is the best evidence I've seen that Ohio State doesn't require players to actually do any course work.

Playing the devil's advocate:

Would it shock anyone if that reported GPA turned out to be a bit embellished by the OSU PR folks?

They faced an embarrassing outcry after that tweet. What better way to silence that than to have the kid go on to become a strong student in college?  We're talking about a guy who was academically ineligibile coming out of high school and needed a year of prep school to pull his high school GPA up to the NCAA minimum.  Now apparently he's able to balance his studies with 30 hours a week of football well enough to be a B+ student. Interesting.

I guess he didn't like his preliminary NFL grade, but this really does feel a bit like an unnecessary gamble.  He's unlikely to play so well in Meyer's offense to become a first-round pick, and as he's seen with the two guys ahead of him he could be hurt at any time and then he's stuck hoping someone drafts him on potential.  I won't begrudge him for returning if that's his wish, but it seems like with the new structure you make way more money on your second contract, so why not try to get in the league, knock a year off that contract at his age (he's 22 I believe) and get a better chance at a second payday versus incremental improvements in your first contract.  I just don't see him going much higher than the 2nd round, and Meyer is just as likely to drive him into the ground.

Wiscy, Bama, and Oregon.

Let's be honest.  He did insanely well to begin with those three games.

I can't see him not playing next year.

And he could use the experience.  For example, just about every fifth grader playing Madden would have chucked it out-of-bounds on the play where he fumbled against Oregon.  He was out of the pocket and had plenty of opportunity.  But he hung on.

Depending on how things are going with his team and his play, that could be the play that gets him the hook in the NFL.

Just with his tweets, I expect him to get better with experience in football.

JT Barrett DEFINITELY hasn't lost his starting spot yet. I can't imagine them giving all his snaps to Cardale. In fact, I fully expect him to still be the starter going into camp and they'll battle it out from there. Likely scenario is they end up doing a Florida Chris Leak/Tebow type of thing.

As for Braxton, what he should do is turn himself into an H-Back or tailback and take a hint from Denard. But he doesn't strike me as a dude who's smart enough to realize he'll never make it in the pros as a QB, so he's most likely to transfer.

Elliott mowed down Wiscy, Bama and Oregon.  All Jones had to do was not lose it.

Oregon could not get any effective pressure on him, except for that time that he fumbled, which could be due to the pretty good OL that was protecting him.  To me, he looked like he had a good arm but not particularly good accuracy and some ability to do power running but not great speed.

Given the type of offense that Meyer likes to run, don't you think Barrett is a better fit?

Agreed. Cardale Jones' responsibility was basically to become a hander-offer and to truck dudes over with his frame. He showed off his strong arm, but there was not nearly as much responsibility on him as there was on Barrett in the offense, as Elliott didn't produce the numbers he did until late.

I don't see Barrett going somewhere and sitting out a year and giving up a year of eligibility.  He's a freshman.  Braxton is gone after next year (if he stays).  I would highly doubt Cardale comes back for a 5th year.  Barrett knows his chance is coming even if he loses the job next year.

From the tweet about having "Life changing news to announce" to scheduling the press conference at his high school and not ohio state, all signs pointed to him leaving only to announce he's staying. Bravo.

This is very similar to the Lewan announcement where everyone thought he was a gone and he surprised us all.

I can see having a press conference for this, but if you're staying then why tweet, "Life changing news coming up at 3pm?" Your life is staying exactly the same.
