Cameron Gordon

Can some one remind me why we haven't offered Cameron Gordon a scholarship? Am I wrong? Did we offer him as an athlete or something and he wants to stick at WR? He's got great size and while he may not be as good as McNeal is, I still say he's better than nothing, especially since we missed out on Josh Robinson. Is there a chance we can convert him into a defensive back a la Morgan Trent? We don't really want to fill up our scholarships with random players, but Gordon would be a very good "random person." I don't see the harm in trying to get him. Hasn't be publicly said that he's holding out for a Michigan offer? That's just what I heard from early on in the season - someone please correct me if I'm wrong. I hope everyone had a great holiday break.

No - I was definitely confused - I'm just trying to figure out who I confused him with. There was a WR, either this year or last who consistently ranked Michigan amongst his leaders, but we never offered him despite a fairly high guru ranking - the reason being we didn't think he'd qualify. Because Gordon was a highly-ranked receiver who listed us, but we never offered (until now), I guess I conflated the two.

Sparty seems to have heard the same rumor. USA Today had an article in April about his move to Inkster to play for the "Dean of Discipline." To those somewhat familiar with Inkster's program, the suggestion that a player would not qualify academically sounds a little strange, but it's not impossible. A lot of kids have been transferring to Inkster as of late; since they started offering a top AP program, the school has been attracting a lot of transfers from around Detroit from families looking for improved academic opportunities. The football program itself puts a high standard on academics for area schools. That's not a support or a knock on Gordon. If I had to hazard a guess -- and by no means should you take this as anything but a guess -- the Big Ten schools are probably unhappy with his pre-Inkster performance, and are waiting to see if the transfer and the greater structure at his new school has made a marked improvement. In other words, did they bring him in to play football, or did he choose them to get his grades in shape?

Maybe I'm nuts, but just a few years ago, Inkster and Detroit had the only two "failing" school districts in the state (and this was a trend that has carried over for many years). I find it hard to believe they all of a sudden turned it around. EDIT: Okay, I kind of misread your post. Nevermind.

in the state title game. He was Gardners favorite target all game and would help our outside reciever problem and probably go a little ways in helping Gardner's chances of becomeing a wolverine next year.

If he moves to defense, it will be as a LB or a S. He's not going to be a corner a la Trent, but he could be a DB, I guess. He is not worth an offer as a WR, in my opinion. The coaches told him that he could come in and start out as WR and see what happens afterward (according to Rivals article yesterday). That usually means they want to get him on campus and then the coaches will put him wherever they damn well please.
