Calling All Mods

Submitted by BernardC on December 17th, 2018 at 10:11 PM

Once again appealing to the Mods about banning Diagonal Blue.  I can take some negativity,  realism, or discerning argument,  but my goodness this jerk is over the top.  He intentionally submarines every thread and is starting to ruin the board experience.  I am sure that he'll just create another persona, but it seems like his IP could be banned?  IDK.

There's actually a thread for mod action, you don't have to create your own.

(that said my personal opinion is maizen gives Michigan fans a bad name, especially to potential recruits and their families, though he does provide content on occasion).

December 18th, 2018 at 9:04 AM ^

I'm not sure why people give them the time of day. I read through the comments on the Aubry Solomon post and couldn't figure out why people can't just downvote and move on. I don't post on the boards often but have been here for a minute, I feel like I remember a feature back in the day where a user's post was hidden after being down-voted so much. Either way, people's need to engage the crazy baffles me sometimes.

I agree with the general principle, but there comes a point where it just can't be ignored.  When every thread is infected by meaningless negativity, the mods need to take some action.

Michigan sports are arguably in the best place they've been in 25 years, yet this place feels like Brady Hoke's last year. It's insane.

Fry up some hash browns. Heat chorizo in a separate pan, and, when you flip the potatoes to do the other side, sprinkle the chorizo on top. Then open a can of black beans and pour them over the chorizo. Follow that with cheese. Put a lid on the pan for the cheese to melt.

Take off your shoes before eating, because it's so good your toes will curl.

Maizen is a unique guy that he doesn’t even try to hide his identity. Maizen Bluey Diagonal Blue Horizontal Maize whatever. He wants us all to know his name is his name

December 18th, 2018 at 6:06 AM ^

Sure. I liked that he posted recruiting information on the misses.  The front page and most of the board are quick to post the hits, he posted the misses.

Now he got sidewise with virtually every poster here cept me cause the perception is he seemed to enjoy the misses but at least the information was out there for discussion.

Like i said....i know I'm in the extreme minority here on this one.

Mgrowold, I'm with ya.  They aren't popular takes,  but are informative and i actually enjoy reading most of them. Yes,  i love all the good posts that show how good Michigan is, but i also like to get a picture of what could be wrong, or why they missed on a recruit,  etc.. i think it helps keep me grounded as a fan and not so "lofty". I'm adult enough to get the message from the content and make my own conclusions. When im done with the arguing and trying to sort through the name calling,  i simply stop reading that thread. Doesn't ruin my blogging for the day. What's worse is when everyone thinks it's cool (like the kozan, rojo, etc jokes that are so played out) to chime in with troll,  or idiot,  etc name calling. We're adults,  not kids.  This board needs to act like adults.  I find it hard to believe with all the Michigan grads on this board,  that there is so much immaturity amongst them.

You enjoyed reading three cryptic comments, one from the mom of a former player, another from a guy who left months ago and was discussed the month+ ago when he posted it?

I think a lot of people here who claim to be contrarian or want to hear other perspectives just like to fight, or are annoyed Michigan isn't winning as many football games as they'd like.  You can be critical of the program and still not take shots at players, coaches, or gin up weird conspiracy theories.

Some people like this guy for whatever reason, and that's your choice.  But just like how you feel his posts provide useful content, I find them to be lazy copies of "insider" info coupled with attempts to criticize teams in the most rudimentary and reactionary ways possible.  But this is a private message board and if the vast majority of people don't want you around you can be asked to leave.  I'm sure he can find somewhere else (or more likely create yet another account) to have his voice heard.

" You can be critical of the program and still not take shots at players, coaches, or gin up weird conspiracy theories. "

This sums it up nicely for me.

It's like Mike O'Hara talking about and analyzing the Lions back in the day. He could give you the good and the bad straight up. It was never all roses or all doom, but a realistic assessment.

DB tends more to the 'Three G' type of input. 'Hey, hows that open wound? Like some lemon juice and ghost peppers on it? It's never going to get better you know, I have the secret knowledge....'

December 18th, 2018 at 7:28 AM ^

Maybe it's because I somehow am still getting 247 email alerts, but all of those posts from him were just copies of those emails.  It wasn't like he did some deep digging or provided additional content.  He'd just regurgitate what was there.  And I guess I still remember the great commit-palooza over the summer where he'd start threads that were like "0 star commits to Michigan.  FML".

Again, apparently YMMV on him.  But "guy who used to post shit about recruits" and "would threaten people with fights on message boards" is how I always viewed him, not the guy who selectively pasted commitments to other schools of guys Michigan may have had an offer out too.

The poster gets his information from pay sites.  His obsession with stars baffles me because it is so arbitrary to rank people into only five categories.  There are 15-30 players players per year according to ESPN that even qualify for the top ranking.  I'm much more of a fan of composite scores.  If you look at composite scores you can see that Michigan is behind Ohio State and Alabama - but the gap isn't as dramatic as saying "Alabama has 6 five star players and Michigan has 1,"  When you look at the composite score Alabama has 6 players above 0.9500 composite and Michigan has 3 players above 0.9500 composite.  If we hadn't lost Dax Hill (yes too soon) it would be Alabama 5 and Michigan 4 players above 0.9500 composite score.  That's a pretty damn good player FWIW,

It is all in the delivery of the message that gets Shawn so much vitriol in response.  Nobody thinks we are a B1G title winning recruiting machine, we just don't need to be reminded of it every 15 minutes by someone who is clearly bored and lonely.  He might deliver something useful but then he becomes the mosquito in the tent.  You just want to fucking sleep.

For the record mGrowOld - when you just shred something about the program because it sucks it doesn't really bother people.  In fact, most of the time when you speak the truth people respect your opinion.  The reason they respect your opinion is because you also celebrate the victories.  You are more than one dimension.  However, Shawn is not.  There is only one dimension and one reason to his posting - he wants people to be miserable.  The tweets he posted were disturbing, but he seriously spent all afternoon trolling people for their responses.  Ask yourself this - if you had posted the tweets, would you have followed up just about every single reply in the thread with a snarky response? This is what the mosquito in the tent does.  There would have been a good discussion this afternoon with or without Shawn.

Good analysis of DB, mgowill, and thanks for applying the banhammer.

I'll put mosquito repellent on my shopping list and send a spray bottle to you and each of the other moms if that'll help next time Diagmaizenal Bluey appears under yet another name.

But like another MGoUser already asked, how is it that DB was able to post an OP when he had no MGoPoints?  Is it yet another glitch in 3.0 that needs a fix?

December 18th, 2018 at 3:54 AM ^

Interesting that his name is Shawn, because he reminds me of another Shawn (Sean): Sean Avery, one of my least-favorite hockey players ever. He might've scored once in a while, but his real talent (if you can call it that) was being an agitator, an instigator, a shit-stirrer - basically, he was a professional asshole, both on and off the ice. I couldn't stand that little prick even when he played for the Wings.

Of course, Avery turned his asshole attitude into an NHL contract that was far beyond his actual talent, so I guess you can say there was a point to his behavior. Shawn + His Aliases doesn't have that excuse.

I hope your profession in real life is not being a judge.  You don't seem very unbiased for the position you hold.  I would think that being a mod requires being able to separate yourself from your fandom and being able to look at a situation objectively.  You just referred to him by his first name,  and then went on to get into the recruiting discussion. None of that is needed,  let alone relevant for this thread.

December 18th, 2018 at 8:50 AM ^

"The poster gets his information from pay sites."

And if you dont subscribe to those sites (like me) you kinda appreciate the information.  That's all.

Look I totally get why what happened to him, happened.   Whenever anybody is that disliked you almost have to take action and you did.  I'm just making the point (as poorly received as it might be) that I liked the content he provided.  Not his comments, not his fighting, his content.

But then again I like the Cleveland Browns so perhaps I'm not a good judge in such matters.

December 18th, 2018 at 5:11 AM ^

I was going to make a quick response to this but then i stopped and read your last 50 or so posts because:

1: I have no clue who you are

2: It's been over 4 years since I ended my season ticket Jihad

Reading your posts was interesting as I realized you dont just dislike me my seemingly dislike everyone  and everything here.  Virtually every comment you make is ripping somebody else's opinion on an issue or topic or even the board itself.

You are way more like Shawn than you realize.  He was negative to a fault over recruiting- you seem to be that way over the rest of the stuff people talk about.

Oh and one last thing we both kinda missed on our OSU pick this year.  I had us winning too and I'm pretty sure by tje same 38-20 score you predicted.

December 18th, 2018 at 8:51 AM ^

You're right I don't like you but you're wrong that I dislike everyone. Most posters here are fine plenty are terrible. I don't post often because I don't have any unique insight or takes that people haven't already delivered. What I dislike about this place is the way it's degenerated. I've never been banned and made a new account because I just wanted a change but I've been posting here since 2010 and it's gone way way downhill since then. When I view people like you and diagonal I view you as part of the problem so I'll make a comment then. I actually love this board and remember when it was great and there was real football talk and not so much feeligsball and trolling. That's it plain and simple.

December 18th, 2018 at 9:39 AM ^

Yeah, that's a terrible take.  I don't always agree with MGrow, but he's had a long track record of quality posts and generally acting like a functional civilized adult and decent dude.

That said - MGrow: I'm actually.... hopeful about the Cleveland Browns next season and don't think I'm entirely irrational about it!!  Are >9 wins and maybe even the playoffs on the table for next season?  Or is Jimmy Haslam just playing the realllllllllly long con with our hearts?

December 18th, 2018 at 10:06 AM ^

Hell, the team could easily be 9-7, because we should've won week 1 vs. Pittsburgh, vs. the Raiders when we got assreamed by zebras, and vs. the Saints if we'd had a kicker.  Plus, even though there were legitimate reasons Jabrill was playing in Ashtabula last season (i.e., literally the only person on the roster semi-qualified to play FS), now that he's back in the box at SS, he's been having a quietly excellent season until his debutante ball at Mile High this weekend.

I'm still keeping my heart under wraps for fear of a long con sucker punch due to the um.... last 25 years, but I'm thinking it's almost time to head back to Squires Castle for a sequel fantasy film

December 18th, 2018 at 9:56 AM ^

Yeah I'll stick with my take you really dont like anybody here (maybe me especially but it's a BIG club).  Here a just a few from the past couple of weeks - and none of these words of encouragement from you to the board were directed at me I might add:

Threads like this and posters like this are why this place has gone downhill so badly. I know being a mod is a thankless pay free task but the moderation here is piss poor. They let one note trolling posters run wild with no repercussions whatsoever. I respect the mods but don't really understand why they let so much shit go.

Where did I say he brought it into the conversation? Comprehend my man. I said he was piping in when someone threw a soft joking jab at Christianity which is sjk to a tee. If anyone goes at his religion whether it be vicious or a softball like here, he's there to chime in. He can't help himself that's the point.

And here you are piping in on anything even vaguely religious. As predictable as the previous two comments.

Because this board and the majority of posters are no better than mlive or a freep comments section. Its hot take after hot take one worst than the next. It wouldn't be so bad if there wasn't a vocal minority trying to posit this place as somewhere more reasonable or intelligent than any other sports related message board. Its really not it's the same as anywhere else. The difference is the front page content the board could be shut down and the site overall would be better for it.

NBA ratings are higher than they've ever been especially among young people. Man do pro sports bring out the absolute fucking idiots on this board.

Not gonna address the fact you took this word for word from the broadcast? Ya weirdo.

Are you serious with this garbage take? The guy has single handedly won games for the chiefs. He's a first year starter with all the potential in the world. Man do pro sports really bring out the shitty takes around here.

Dumbest post in the thread bar none.

Do you work outside with your hands?

Is this a serious thread? You must look like a maniac walking around in receiver gloves. The more I think about it the more ridiculous it sounds. This has to be a somewhat clever troll or a tongue in cheek thread.
