Bumped: Petition to Fire Brandon (Students/Alumni/Faculty)

Submitted by FreddieMercuryHayes on

I'm re-posting this to keep it on the MGoBoard because I find it important, and for some reason it hasn't been pinned to the site banner yet.  Maybe it will mean nothing, but this kind of stuff is all many of us have to express discontent and disgust with the leadership of the athletic department, especially for those who do not want to resort to boycotts for the players' sakes.

ALUMNI - you can sign it too.  You don't even have to remember your unique name.

Follow the 'Login' link and click the 'Create a Login ID Now' on the left hand side, click 'create uniquname', and follow the instructions.  I haven't used my umich login in 7 years, and it took me literally 87 seconds to recover it and reset a password.  Just need your name, birthdate, year of first UM degree, and last four of your SSN.  Theoretically it also allows you to create a login ID for those who were alumni before the advent of the uniquenames.  Haven't tired it myself, but saw a '91 grad say they could sign.

If in fact Ben Braden signed this, that needs to be prominently announced in the OP/title.

HOWEVER there are two students named Benjamin Braden at the U. (Just checked MCommunity.) It needs to be determined whether Ben Braden the RT is Benjamin A. Braden or Benjamin D. Braden. It's unclear to me how to figure this out, as a quick Google search failed.

We'll leave this for now, but I can always bump the initial thread by changing the timestamp, so further threads on this aren't necessary. If it is falling off the first page, someone can always nudge me on Twitter and I can put it back in the first few threads. I agree with the sentiment, but I am a little sensitive to thread creation right now. ;-)

Initially, I clicked on the forgot password link and the instructions wanted me to call some 800 number. Then I followed the OP's advice and was taken to the alumni giving page, that reset my password in like 30 seconds. I like how they make it easy to give, but difficult to sign a petition.

Brian has said and written "F**k Dave Brandon" both here on this blog, in podcasts, and on the radio. I think the ship has sailed on him remaining unbiased at this point.

Frankly, I would be shocked and disappointed if Brian and Ace did NOT sign the petition, given how they clearly feel about Brandon being AD.

Eh, maybe Ace because he's credentialed, but Brian I believe stays away from that kind of stuff because he is a fan first. And this is not a news sight; this is an opinion site. They still hold themselves accountable to basic integrity when reporting stuff, but they are not the model where they never express their opinions.

The credential thing was more what I was getting at. Likely wouldn't do it if I were in their shoes despite what's posted on the blog. Agree with pretty much everything you said though and ultimately don't think it really matters, because yes their opinions are clearly known and this petition seems to be pretty clear where everyone stands anyway.

The culture surrounding this program needs to change. Deceipt and lack of accountability fester and rot from the inside. The head of the monster must be lopped off. The monster's blissful boob of a minion has already wilted into a gelatinous, useless goop on the sideline that must be banished into oblivion.  The concussion issue is just a firebrand(on) that stokes the flames into a conflagration of justifiable outrage. Signed, and sealed. Deliver Brandon's head.

The petition is already at 6,070 signatures as of this posting, and at this rate will most likely hit 10,000 by the day's end. With approximately 500,000 living alumni from the University of Michigan, that would be a signature by 1/50 alumni. Taking into account how many graduates do not have Uniqnames due to the dates of their graduation, obtaining even 2% of the living alumni base to sign onto this petition is a showing that there is a serious movement by the interested students and graduates. With this showing of outrage, eventually the bunker mentality will have to end and the President and Regents will be forced to at least acknowledge the situation in the athletic department.
